    Abstract
    For a power transfer path, total transfer capability (TTC) represents maximum power that can be transferred over the transmission system. Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is a device that can be used to increase in TTC. This study presents a new method for optimal UPFC application to minimise power loss while enhancing TTC. Based on UPFC injection model, the solution region of UPFC parameters is first found using the proposed method to maximise TTC. It then searches the solution region to find optimal UPFC control mode and setting to minimise system power loss.     Abstract
    This paper propose a particle swarm optimization based algorithm for locating Unified power flow controller (UPFC), as well as set its parameters, with static point of view in deregulated electricity markets in order to reduce generation cost, voltage violation and manage congestion.     Available transfer capability (ATC) is a measure of the transfer capability remaining in a transmission system. Application of unified power flow controllers (UPFCs) could have positive impacts on the ATC of some paths while it might have a negative impact on the ATC of other paths. This paper presents an approach to evaluate the impacts of UPFCs on the ATC from a cost/worth point of view. The UPFC application worth is considered as the maximum cost saving in enhancing the ATC of the paths due to the UPFC implementation.     Utilization of Unified Power Flow Controllers (UPFCs) can be more beneficial in the restructured power systems due to their capabilities in increasing the transmission line capacities as well as shunt reactive compensation. So, these devices should be installed such that the most benefit can be gained. In this paper, the problem of optimal placement of UPFCs is solved using Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming (MINLP) method.     This paper evaluates the reliability impact of UPFC application in power system. The paper proposes a new reliability model for the UPFC which is capable of considering different operating states of UPFC. The model is then applied to a test system to study the reliability impacts of UPFC. The impacts of operating points of different states of the model on the system reliability are analyzed.
