, Article Information Sciences, Elsevier ; Volume 278, 10 September 2014, Pages 498–509 Neghabi, H. (Hossein) ; Eshghi, Kourosh ; Salmani, Mohammad Hassan ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The Facility Layout Problem (FLP) is the problem of locating each department in a long plant floor without any overlap between departments in order to minimize the material handling cost. The main purpose of this study is to show the effectiveness of a robust approach to solve FLP. In this study, it is assumed that the departments’ length and width are not predetermined. For modeling this kind of uncertainty, the size of each department is considered as a bounded variable and two new parameters are also introduced to implement a robust approach. Moreover, a new adaptive algorithm is designed to determine the robust layout with respect to the decision makers’ requirements. Furthermore, the...

    Abstract
As a direct consequence of power systems restructuring on one hand and unprecedented renewable energy utilization on the other, the uncertainties of power systems are getting more and more attention. This fact intensifies the difficulty of decision making in the power system context; therefore, the uncertainty analysis of the system performance seems necessary. Generally, uncertainties in any engineering system study can be represented probabilistically or possibilistically. When sufficient historical data of the system variables is not available, a probability density function (PDF) might not be defined, they must be represented in another manner i.e. using possibilistic theory. When some...

    Abstract
Nowadays the growing demand for energy, and, on the other hand, the limited resources of fossil consuming energy in the world have caused the energy operation and consumption management to be taken into consideration much more than the past. Based on this background, improving the efficiency of feed conversion technologies in supplying the energy demanded by the consumers is the foremost and the most crucial solution to preventing energy loss. Another approach to reducing the losses through energy generation and transmission is the use of distributed energy generation systems in small scale. The advantages of applying this type of technology are the possibility of installing near the load...

Convex Hull Problem in the Uncertain Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Valoubian, Erfan (Author) ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many geometric problems have algorithms that exist on paper for them, such as the Convex Hull problem [1], Minimum Spanning Tree [2], Voronoi Diagram [3], Closest Pair of Points [4], Largest Empty Circle [5], Smallest Enclosing Circle [6], and more. In all of these problems, the assumption is that a certain number of points are given as input, and we must perform various operations on these points based on the nature of the problem. Furthermore, a stronger assumption is that these points are given to us precisely, but in reality, this is not the case, and for various reasons, it is not possible to determine the exact locations of these points. Therefore, it can be said that we are dealing...

    Abstract
The results also have shown that holding costs and inventory play key roles because of business various conditions and external risk encountering. As a result, supply chain systems have to decrease their inventory amount. In this study, a location-routing-inventory model hypothesizes using risk pooling in distribution center warehouses and their combination in order to decrease the inventory costs such as inventory holding and safety stock costs.(it is because of costumer uncertain demand and lead time from supplier to distribution center and from distribution center to costumers) In this model, in addition to decrease the inventory costs, DC establishment costs and transportation costs that...

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 81, Issue 9-12 , 2015 , Pages 1563-1575 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Salmani, M. H ; Eshghi, K ; Neghabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Facility layout problem (FLP) is one of the classical and important problems in real-world problems in the field of industrial engineering where efficiency and effectiveness are very important factors. To have an effective and practical layout, the deterministic assumptions of data should be changed. In this study, it is assumed that we have dynamic and uncertain values for departments’ dimensions. Accordingly, each dimension changes in a predetermined interval. Due to this assumption, two new parameters are introduced which are called length and width deviation coefficients. According to these parameters, a definition for layout in uncertain environment is presented and a mixed integer...

    , Article Electric Power Systems Research ; Volume 81, Issue 8 , 2011 , Pages 1696-1708 ; 03787796 (ISSN) Siahkali, H ; Vakilian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Wind power is a promising source of electric power generation since it has tremendous environmental and social benefits. The generation scheduling (GS) problem encounters several uncertainties in terms of the system's parameters such as load, reserve and available wind power generation. The modeling of those uncertainties is an important issue in power system scheduling. A fuzzy based modeling approach can be used to develop the generation schedule under an uncertain environment. In this paper, the type-2 fuzzy membership function (MF) is implemented to model the linguistic uncertainty of type-1 MF of available wind power generation which stems from opinions of different experts. The...

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 53, Issue 5-8 , 2011 , Pages 777-788 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Khodaygan, S ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In mechanical assemblies, individual components are placed together to deliver a certain function. The performance, quality, and cost of the mechanical assembly are significantly affected by its tolerances. Toleranced dimensions inherently generate an uncertain environment in a mechanical assembly. This paper presents a proper method for tolerance analysis of mechanical assemblies with asymmetric tolerances based on an uncertainty model. This mathematical approach is based on fuzzy logic and tolerance accumulation models such as worst-case and root-sum-square methods. A fuzzy-based tolerance representation is developed to model uncertainty of tolerance components in the mechanical...
