    Abstract
The compound, alkaline lead acetate, Pb(CH3COO)2·PbO·H2O (ALA), was purchased from the Fluka Company. The X-ray diffraction film and SEM electron microgaph of this compound were obtained and reported in this paper for the first time. The thermal behavior of alkaline lead acetate (ALA) was studied using thermogravimetery (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetery (DSC) techniques under an O2 gas atmosphere from 25 to 600°C. Four distinct energy changes associated with weight changes were observed, all of them being exothermic in the DSC results. The amount of ΔH for each peak is reported. © Sharif University of Technology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gheytani, Saman (Author) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor) ; Khomamizadeh, Farzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were synthesized in an aqueous solution of iron chloride and solfate via arc discharge. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis showed that the multi layer structures including carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and multi-shell graphite particles were formed when DI-water was used. SWCNTs were synthezied in the presence of the iron ions. The effect of [Fe3+]/[Fe2+] ratio on the CNTs yield were investigated. Raman spectroscopy investigations showed that the highest yield was obtained when the ferric to ferro ratio was one. When the concentration of Fe3+ ion was higher than that of Fe2+, many short tubes were...

    Abstract
A supramolecular linear-dendritic copolymer consisting of a polystyrene backbone and hanging hyperbranched polyglycerols was prepared and characterized. Host-guest interactions between β-cyclodextrin incorporated in the core of polyglycerol as a host and aromatic rings of polystyrene as guests lead to the formation of a supramolecular linear-dendritic copolymer. Supramolecules formed micelles in aqueous solutions which were able to encapsulate and transfer paclitaxel with a high loading capacity

    Abstract
In this study, MoS2/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was used as a cocatalyst to synthesize very highly efficient Cu2O/MoS2/rGO for cooperative catalytic applications. The resulting nanocomposite was characterized by various analytical techniques and applied for catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol and photocatalytic degradation of Acid blue 92. Cu2O/MoS2/rGO composite presents superior performance to pure Cu2O particles in both catalytic and photocatalytic reactions. This excellent activity demonstrates synergistic effect of MoS2/rGO as a cocatalyst in the nanocomposite. The role of the active sites in the reduction of 4-NP and degradation of dye was discussed and...

    , Article New Journal of Chemistry ; Volume 42, Issue 16 , 2018 , Pages 13864-13872 ; 11440546 (ISSN) Asgari, S ; Bagheri, H ; Es Haghi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Royal Society of Chemistry  2018
    Abstract
Sol composition and ripening conditions are two important parameters in silica fiber production through the conventional sol-gel process. In the current study, silica nanofibers were successfully obtained via the electrospinning technique, and sol-gel formation occurred during this process. Based on previous reports, with the aim of increasing the selectivity, we used the molecular imprinted methodology to produce a selective medium via sol-gel electrospinning. In this process, sol-gel was formed during electrospinning and then, the backbone polymer was removed by heating. To obtain a thin layer of silica nanofibers, the influencing parameters such as backbone polymer types, imprinting time...

    Abstract
A mixture of MgO and graphite with a molar ratio (1:1) was subjected to planetary ball milling for 1, 2, 4, and 8 h with the intention of enhancing carbothermic reduction reaction of MgO during subsequent thermal treatment. Unmilled and milled mixtures were characterized using a combination of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), surface area analysis (SSA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The reduction reaction of milled samples occurred at lower temperature than that of the unmilled sample. A longer milling time engenders a lower reaction temperature. These results are attributable to the increased interfacial area of the sample...

    Abstract
The preparation and characterization of a new type of nanocomposite polyelectrolyte membrane, based on DuPont Nafion/imidazole-modified nanosilica (Im-Si), for direct methanol fuel cell applications is described. Related to the interactions between the protonated imidazole groups, grafted on the surface of nanosilica, and negatively charged sulfonic acid groups of Nafion, new electrostatic interactions can be formed in the interface of Nafion and Im-Si which result in both lower methanol permeability and also higher proton conductivity. Physical characteristics of these manufactured nanocomposite membranes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry analysis,...

    Abstract
Barium strontium titanate (BST) was prepared via the simple sol-gel method by using tetrabutyl ti-tanate, ethanol, citric acid and ethylene glycol as starting materials. The particle size of BST was approximately 21 nm, as calculated by the X-ray diffraction and confirmed by transition electron microscopy for the calcination temperature of 750 °C. It was found that the particles of BST powders calcined at 750 °C were smaller and more homogeneous and uniform than those obtained at 800 °C

    Abstract
Nanoparticles for biomedical use must be cytocompatible with the biological environment that they are exposed to. Current research has focused on the surface functionalization of nanoparticles by using proteins, polymers, thiols and other organic compounds. Here we show that inorganic nanoparticles such as titanium oxide can be coated by pyrolytic carbon (PyC) and that the coating has cytocompatible properties. Pyrolization and condensation of methane formed a thin layer of pyrolytic carbon on the titanium oxide core. The formation of the PyC shell retards coalescence and sintering of the ceramic phase. Our MTT assay shows that the PyC-coated particles are cytocompatible at employed doses
