, Article International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology ; 2020 Ahmadi, A ; Abbaspour, M ; Afkhami Namin, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
The main goal of environmental education program developers is to train resourceful experts to work, study and solve environmental issues. Thus, it is essential to conform educational knowledge and skills according to countries needs along with scientific and technological progress. The present study aimed to assess needs of educational programs by considering climate change issues in Iranian Universities. Therefore, needs of higher education sector have been identified and some recommendations were given in line with objectives of training programs. The study applied random selection method to determine a number of environmental professionals to answer the designed questioner. Delphi method...

Quantification of technological progress in greenhouse gas (GHG) capture and mitigation using patent data

    , Article Energy and Environmental Science ; Volume 12, Issue 9 , 2019 , Pages 2789-2805 ; 17545692 (ISSN) Sharifzadeh, M ; Triulzi, G ; Magee, C. L ; Sharif University of Technology
    Royal Society of Chemistry  2019
    Abstract
Greenhouse gas emissions from anthropogenic sources are believed to be the main cause of global warming and climate change. Furthermore, fossil fuels are forecasted to remain the dominant source of energy in the near future. Therefore, capture and sequestration of greenhouse gases and in particular carbon dioxide is likely to be a major pathway toward environmental protection and energy sustainability. Such clarity has stimulated an intense and diverse range of research into various capture and mitigation technologies, which race with global warming in real-time. Quantification of the performance improvement rates of these technologies can inform decision-makers' long-term investment...

A novel circuit topology for three-phase four-wire distribution electronic power transformer

    , Article 7th International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, PEDS 2007, Bangkok, 27 November 2007 through 30 November 2007 ; 2007 , Pages 1215-1222 ; 1424406455 (ISBN); 9781424406456 (ISBN) Mirmousa, H ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Distribution Power Electronic Transformers are introduced to improve the power quality issues as well as to reduce the size and the cost of the transformers once technological progress made it possible. In this paper first, some existing configurations are overviewed. Then a new circuit topology is introduced for input and output stages of a Power Electronic Transformer. This circuit comprises three-phase input matrix converter, three-phase four-wire output matrix converter and the high frequency transformer. Control scheme of input and output link is analyzed and simulation result of the system is presented. Reduced size, lower price, higher efficiency and better voltage regulation are some...

Optimal policy of energy innovation in developing countries: Development of solar PV in Iran

    , Article Energy Policy ; Volume 37, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 1116-1127 ; 03014215 (ISSN) Shafiei, E ; Saboohi, Y ; Ghofrani, M.B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The purpose of this study is to apply managerial economics and methods of decision analysis to study the optimal pattern of innovation activities for development of new energy technologies in developing countries. For this purpose, a model of energy research and development (R&D) planning is developed and it is then linked to a bottom-up energy-systems model. The set of interlinked models provide a comprehensive analytical tool for assessment of energy technologies and innovation planning taking into account the specific conditions of developing countries. An energy-system model is used as a tool for the assessment and prioritization of new energy technologies. Based on the results of the...
