    Abstract
Production and oscillation of sonoluminescence bubbles by laser pulse in the presence of acoustic field in water and different concentrations of sulfuric acid are investigated. In the presence of acoustic field, the laser causes variable speed of sound, surface tension and density; and the host liquid acts as a compressible one and strongly affects the bubble's dynamics equations. The effect of various concentrations of sulfuric acid as a host liquid on the oscillation of bubble radius, bubble wall velocity and bubble interior temperature is studied. Furthermore, the effect of applied frequency on LI-SCBL in the presence of the acoustic field is investigated and an optimum sound wave...

    Abstract
In many uranium mines such as gachin-bandarabbas, use sulfuric acid for leaching operation on ore. This leach liquor, containing uranium, is extracted by organic solvent, such as D2EHPA (dapex process ).althogh this process have being used for many years, there is a vacancy for detailed thermodynamical studying on uranium extraction of uranium from leach liquor. To have a thermodynamical model, we need information on equilibrium concentration of all component that may have effect on uranium extraction in addition we need concentration of solvent , pH, phase ratio and activity coefficient.such a model must have the ability to predict the equilibrium concentration in alloperation condition....

Ambient temperature effect on single-bubble sonoluminescence in different concentrations of sulfuric acid solutions

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 85, Issue 1 , January , 2012 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Imani, Kh ; Bemani, F ; Silatani, M ; Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The effect of ambient temperature on the parameters of the single-bubble sonoluminescence in sulfuric acid (SA) diluted in water is studied. Using a hydrochemical model, three dominant instabilities of shape, Bjerknes, and diffusion are considered. The phase diagrams of the bubble in the (R 0 - P a) space are presented, and the parametric dependence of the light intensity is discussed. In contrast to water, the calculated thermal-bremsstrahlung mechanism of light emission at the fixed degassing condition of high SA concentrations shows that, with increasing the temperature of aqueous SA solutions, the light intensity increases. However, at diluted SA solutions similar to water, the light...

Advances in bioleaching of copper and nickel from electronic waste using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans: evaluating daily pH adjustment

    , Article Chemical Papers ; Volume 74, Issue 7 , 2020 , Pages 2211-2227 Arshadi, M ; Yaghmaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
Abstract: The waste stream of electrical and electronic equipment is three times faster than other municipal waste streams. Recycling of electronic waste is necessary for both reducing environmental pollution and saving natural ores. Bioleaching is known as an efficient technology for metal leaching. In most of the previous studies on the bioleaching of electronic waste, the pH of the process was adjusted daily under the optimal pH of the bacterium growth. Using acid causes increasing process costs and unsustainability of the process. In this work, the effect of daily pH adjustment on the bioleaching efficiency of electronic waste using adapted Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans was studied....

    Abstract
The inhibition effects of 3.5 bis (2-pyridil) 4-amino 1,2,4 triazole (NBTA) and 1-10 phenantrolin (PHEN), on corrosion of mild steel in acid solutions, (sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid) were studied. The Tafel polarisation and ac impedance techniques were employed. Results obtained reveal that both compounds are relatively good inhibitors. The inhibition efficiencies of NBTA are higher in hydrochloric acid than in sulphuric acid. This has been attributed to the synergistic effect of chloride ions present in hydrochloric acid. The mechanism of inhibition of PHEN is believed to be owing to the formation of insoluble chelates between the organic molecules and atom/ion on the metal surface....

    Abstract
The present study evaluates the reductive leaching of indium from indium-bearing zinc ferrite using oxalic acid as a reducer in sulfuric acid solution. The effect of main factors affecting the process rate, including the oxalic-acid-to-sulfuric-acid ratio, stirring rate, grain size, temperature, and the initial concentration of synergic acid, was precisely evaluated. The results confirmed the acceptable efficiency of dissolving indium in the presence of oxalic acid. The shrinking-core model with a chemical-reaction-controlled step can correctly describe the kinetics of indium dissolution. On the basis of an apparent activation energy of 44.55 kJ/mol and a reaction order with respect to the...

Thermodynamics of extraction of RE O4 - from aqueous sulfuric acid media with Tri-n-butyl phosphate dissolved in kerosene

    , Article Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B: Process Metallurgy and Materials Processing Science ; Volume 32, Issue 1 , 2001 , Pages 5-10 ; 10735615 (ISSN) Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Keshavarz Alamdari, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2001
    Abstract
Rhenium distribution between Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) dissolved in kerosene and sulfuric aqueous media is investigated under different temperatures, acidities, and TBP concentrations. Results show an exothermic extraction reaction with a distribution factor that decreases with the increase of the temperature and increases with the increase of the acidity and the TBP concentration. The stoichiometry of the reaction indicates neutralization of 1 mole of H+ with 1 mole of ReO4- and solvating of a neutral molecule with four molecules of TBP. The structure of the complexes formed is, therefore, 4TBP · HReO4. The apparent Gibbs free energy of the formation of 4TBP · HReO4 from TBP, ReO4-, and...

Preparation of Claus Nanocatalyst for Replacing the Commercial Catalyst

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaee, Mohammad (Author) ; Kazemini, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Rashidi, Ali Morad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Selective oxidation of H2S to elemental sulfur in a fixed bed reactor over seven nanocatalysts has been investigated and compared to commercial claus catalyst. Among them, Al2O3-supported sodium oxide nanocatalyst prepared with wet chemical technique and Al2O3 nanocatalyst prepared with spray pyrolysis method were the most active catalysts for selective oxidation of H2S to elemental sulfur. The remaining nanocatalysts were deactivated, mainly due to the interaction with H2S and conversion into sulfides. For synthesis of Al2O3 with spray pyrolysis method we use statistical design of experiments (box-behnken design) in order to screen the effects of significant synthesizing parameters

Separation of Re and Mo from roasting-dust leach-liquor using solvent extraction technique by TBP

    , Article Separation and Purification Technology ; Volume 86 , February , 2012 , Pages 143-148 ; 13835866 (ISSN) Keshavarz Alamdari, E ; Darvishi, D ; Haghshenas, D. F ; Yousefi, N ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Re/Mo separation is studied by a new solvent extraction technique which is based on extraction mechanisms of the constituent metals. Based on McCabe-Thiele plots, a flow diagram has been proposed for separation and purification of Re over Mo. Re-recovery section of the diagram shows that Re is extracted when major amount of Mo is removed. For removal of the remained Mo, a two-stage extraction is required at pH = 2 and V a/V o = 1. In order to obtain Re, the resulted aqueous phase is stripped by adding sulfuric acid. According to the results, while more Re is extracted at less pH, optimum extraction of Mo happens at pH = 1.2. Re selectivity over Mo maximizes by approaching of the pH to zero

Interaction of two oscillating sonoluminescence bubbles in sulfuric acid

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 82, Issue 1 , 2010 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Rezaee, N ; Ebrahimi, H ; Mirheydari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The mutual interaction of two oscillating gas bubbles in different concentrations of sulfuric acid is numerically investigated. A nonlinear oscillation for spherical symmetric bubbles with equilibrium radii smaller than 10 μm at a frequency of 37 kHz in a strong driving acoustical field Pa =1.8 bar is assumed. The calculations are based on the investigation of the secondary Bjerknes force with regard to adiabatic model for the bubble interior which appears as repulsion or attraction interaction force. In this work the influence of the various concentrations of sulfuric acid in uncoupled and coupled distances between bubbles has been investigated. It is found that the sign and value of the...

    Abstract
Sonoluminescence (SL) radiation from an argon bubble in water and in different concentrations of sulfuric acid has numerically been studied to quantify the effects of vapor pressure and viscosity of the liquid on cavitation luminescence in a liquid with controllable vapor pressure and viscosity. For the solutions containing the noble gas with low partial pressure (about 4 Torr), it is shown that there exists an optimum acid solution in which both the temperature and the intensity of SL radiation become maximum. The calculations show that the maximum SL radiation is achieved from the solution of around 65% (wt.) H2 SO4, which is in agreement with available experimental results. © 2009 The...

Factors affecting the leachability of Ni/Co/Cu slags at high temperature

    , Article Hydrometallurgy ; Volume 85, Issue 1 , 2007 , Pages 42-52 ; 0304386X (ISSN) Baghalha, M ; Papangelakis, V. G ; Curlook, W ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
An oxidative pressure acid leaching process was investigated for the extraction of Ni/Co/Cu/Zn metal values from base metal smelter slags. The process is applicable to smelting furnace dump slags, as well as to mid-stream converter slags. In addition to the economical advantages, extracting the base metal values from the dump slags produces an environmentally benign residue. To produce high level of extraction for the metal values, it is necessary to have the slag in crystalline structure. This, in turn, requires cooling the molten smelter slags sufficiently slowly during solidification. It was shown that if the same slags are quenched in water thereby producing an amorphous structure, the...

    Abstract
Metal pH50 and ΔpH50 values were determined and compared for a number of organic systems to select a synergistic system for the separation of Cd from Zn. The largest ΔpH50(Zn-Cd) value was obtained with HRJ-4277 (nonylsalicylic acid)/Cyanex 471X (triisobutyl phosphine sulphide or TIBPS) system and reached 1.53 pH units, indicating excellent separation of Cd from Zn with this system. Shellsol 2046 was chosen as the diluent of the system due to its larger ΔpH50(Zn-Cd) and excellent phase separation compared with other diluents. Distribution isotherms and subsequent McCabe-Thiele diagrams indicate that 99% Cd could be extracted in two stages at pH 3.80 and A / O ratio of 1.5 : 1. The extraction...

    Abstract
In order to improve titanium corrosion behavior, we can increase the thickness of oxide layer on titanium surface during anodizing process and by electrochemistry. In this research, self-color anodizing of Ti in sulfuric acid was done, and anodizing layers were created in different colors. The highest value of chromaticity was 37.8 for the anodized sample in 10 V, and the lowest value was 8.6 at 15 V. The oxide layer thickness was calculated by optical method (light refraction). The anodic film thickness increased by increasing the anodizing voltage. The highest thickness of anodic film was 190 nm in sulfuric acid solution for the anodized sample in 80 V. Corrosion resistance of anodized Ti...

    Abstract
In this research, using a hydrochemical model alongside three dominant instabilities of shape, Bjerknes and diffusion, the effect of ambient parameters on the single bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) in Sulfuric Acid (SA) is studied. The phase diagrams of the bubble in the (R0 − Pa) space are presented, and the parametric dependence of the light intensity is discussed. In a part of this research a hot plasma core is considered at the center of the bubble. The study of ambient temperature shows that in contrast to water, the calculated thermalbremsstrahlung mechanism of light emission at the fixed degassing condition of high SA concentrations shows that with increasing the temperature of aqueous...

    Abstract
The environmental pollutions besides wasting the valuable materials as two main challenges in pyrometallurgical processes have brought up the tendency towards the hydrometallurgical processes. In the present study, the recovery of germanium from leaching residues of zinc plant has been investigated. Firstly, the required tests for concentrating the residues through washing of the zinc were designed by taguchi method, and optimum condition for maximum leaching of zinc accompanied by minimum desolution of germanium were obtained. The sulfuric acid concentration, time, termperature of reaction, solid to liquid ratio and rate of stirring are the parameters studied in this research. The obtained...

Investigation of a mutual interaction force at different pressure amplitudes in sulfuric acid

    Abstract
This paper investigates the secondary Bjerknes force for two oscillating bubbles in various pressure amplitudes in a concentration of 95% sulfuric acid. The equilibrium radii of the bubbles are assumed to be smaller than 10 μm at a frequency of 37 kHz in various strong driving acoustical fields around 2.0 bars (1 bar=10 5 Pa). The secondary Bjerknes force is investigated in uncoupled and coupled states between the bubbles, with regard to the quasi-adiabatic model for the bubble interior. It finds that the value of the secondary Bjerknes force depends on the driven pressure of sulfuric acid and its amount would be increased by liquid pressure amplitude enhancement. The results show that the...
