    Abstract
In this paper, we study modules having only finitely many submodules over any ring which is not necessarily commutative. We try to understand how such a module decomposes as a direct sum. We justify that any module V having only finitely many submodules over any ring A is an extension of a cyclic A-module by a finite A-module. Under some assumptions on A, such as commutativity of A, we prove that an A-module V has finitely many submodules if and only if V can be written as a direct sum of a cyclic A-module having only finitely many A-submodules and a finite A-module

Optimization of a cascading TMR system configuration using genetic algorithm

    , Article IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN), 25 July 2012 through 27 July 2012 ; July , 2012 , Pages 470-474 ; 19354576 (ISSN) ; 9781467303118 (ISBN) Khodadad, F. S ; Jahed, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The architecture of the Cascading TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) System is commonly found in aerospace applications. The system is potentially capable of containing a large number of modules and sub modules. In this paper a novel method for optimization of a Cascading TMR system configuration using GA (Genetic Algorithm) is proposed. The proposed algorithm provides a configuration that maximizes reliability and minimizes overhead area simultaneously

Post-Fault Control of Fault-Tolerant Multi Module Converters

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kazemi, Hossein (Author) ; Zolghadri, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, multilevel converters are significantly developed in industrial applications as well as energy transmission systems regarding proper quality of output waveforms and fault tolerant operation ability. Among the different topologies of multilevel converters, modular multilevel converter (MMC) due to its modularity feature it more accepted in high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems. Fast fault detection in power electronics converters is necessary to bypass the defected part in order to prevent failure propagation to other Submodules and to provide continues servicing. On this basis, different researches are reported in literature for MMCs fault tolerant operation. In...

    Co-maximal Graph of Algebraic Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Miraftab, Babak (Author) ; Akbari, Saieed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we study some connections between the graph-theoretic and algebraic properties of co-maximal graph of algebraic structures. We follow two purposes. First, what properties of algebraic structures can be found from co-maximal graph of algebraic structures. Second, what geometric or graph theoretical properties of co-maximal graph of algebraic structures can be found from specefic algebraic structures. Let G be a group and I(G)∗be the set of all non-trivial sub-groups of G. The co-maximal graph of subgroups of G, denoted byΓ(G), is a graph with the vertex set I(G)∗and two distinct vertices H and K are adjacent if and only if HK=G. We char-acterize all groups whose co-maximal...
