Multi-objective optimization of direct coupling photovoltaic-electrolyzer systems using imperialist competitive algorithm

, Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings (IMECE) ; Vol. 6A , November , 2014 Maroufmashat, A ; Sayedin, F ; Sattari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Photovoltaic-electrolyzer systems are one of the most promising alternatives for obtaining hydrogen from a renewable energy source. Determining size and the operational conditions are always a key issue while coupling directly renewable electricity sources to PEM electrolyzer. In this research, the multi objective optimization approach based on an imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA), which is employed to optimize the size and the operating conditions of a directly coupled photovoltaic (PV)-PEM electrolyzer. This allows the optimization of the system by considering two different objectives, including, minimization of energy transfer loss and maximization of hydrogen generation. Multi...

Evaluating one of renewable electricity generation technologies: PEM fuel cells

    , Article EPEC 2010 - IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference: "Sustainable Energy for an Intelligent Grid", 25 August 2010 through 27 August 2010, Halifax, NS ; 2010 ; 9781424481880 (ISBN) Hoseinnia, S ; Sadeghzadeh, S. M ; Fathi, A. H ; Nasiri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cells are attracting most of the electricity consumers because of high efficiency, zero carbon emissions and high reliability. There are many parameters influencing on this power source's operation. A model of PEM fuel cell will be presented and the sensitivity of the fuel cell's parameters will be analyzed. Multi Parameters Sensitivity Analysis is used next to examine the relative importance of the influential parameters on the PEM fuel cell operation

Optimal deployment of renewable electricity technologies in Iran and implications for emissions reductions

    , Article Energy ; Volume 91 , 2015 , Pages 882-893 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Aryanpur, V ; Shafiei, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
In this paper, special focus is paid to the long-term adoption of renewable electricity technologies and their implications for emissions reductions in Iran. MESSAGE, as a bottom-up energy supply optimization model, is used to assess the lowest-cost technology options. The potential impacts of transitioning to a renewable electricity supply are quantified, and the investment requirement to achieve a low-carbon generation mix is estimated. Alternative scenarios are defined to evaluate the impact of fossil fuel prices, the carbon tax and government incentives on the utilization of renewable resources, national renewable targets, and emissions reductions. The prioritization of non-hydro...
