    Abstract
The main focus of this paper is on the estimation of target motion parameters using bearing measurements. Here, based on a linearization of measurements, a recursive least squares (RLS) solution is developed. The performance of the proposed method is compared to PLE which uses the same approach in measurement linearization. Simulation results show the excellence of the proposed method over the PLE, and RLS results are in vicinity of the CRLB

A generalized regression neural network (GRNN) scheme for robust estimation of target orientation using back-scattered data

    , Article IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, AP-S International Symposium (Digest) ; Volume 2 , 2001 , Pages 690-693 ; 15223965 (ISSN) Sarshar, N ; Kabiri, A ; Barkeshli, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2001
    Abstract
The orientation of a conducting target was estimated with a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) network using back-scattered data. Steps made to provide the training data sets by a computer code using method of moments were investigated. Noisy data sets were provided to improve the system generalization. The GRNN target orientation estimation and its performance was evaluated and the robustness was verified against target scaling, target deformation, sensor misplacements and introduction of noise with different S/N into sensor measurements

Localization in MISO airborne passive radar through heavy ground clutters

    , Article Proceedings of 2015 IEEE East-West Design and Test Symposium, EWDTS 2015, 26 September 2015 through 29 September 2015 ; 2015 ; 9781467377751 (ISBN) Ahmadi, M. J ; Amiri, R ; Behnia, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The relative velocity between ground surface and receiver platform leads to clutter expansion in the range-doppler surface. The expanded clutters can mask slow moving targets. The passive radar is a low cost and light weight radar with high detection ability, due to its multistatic geometry. In this paper, we employ the MISO passive radar with at least four transmitters of opportunity to constitute an over-determined system of equations. We propose an algorithm to localize moving targets in the presence of clutters. In the first step, the clutters are separated from moving targets and in the second one, the position and velocity of the target are computed by solving the system of equations....

Particle filtering-based low-elevation target tracking with multipath interference over the ocean surface

    Abstract
As radar signals propagate above the ocean surface to determine the trajectory of a target, the signals that are reflected directly from the target arrive at the receiver along with indirect signals reflected from the ocean surface. These unwanted signals must be properly filtered; otherwise, their interference may mislead the signal receiver and significantly degrade the tracking performance of the radar. To this end, we propose a low-elevation target tracking mechanism considering the specular and diffuse reflection effects of multipath propagation over the ocean surface simultaneously. The proposed mechanism consists of a state-space model and a particle filtering algorithm and promises...

A disambiguation technique for passive localization using trajectory analysis

, Article IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems ; 2018 ; 00189251 (ISSN) Samizadeh Nikoo, M ; Behnia, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In some well-known passive localization methods, when the number of equations equals the number of unknown object coordinates, there arise finite number of possible solutions. A localization disambiguation technique is required to identify the correct solution in these cases. As an example, the exact solution of time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) based equations for four receiver sites, leads to a couple of solutions with only one of them being the true target position. This ambiguity, conventionally is resolved by using angle-of-arrival (AOA) measurements or using an additional receiver site which increase the cost and complexity of the system. In this paper a localization disambiguation...

Combinational hough transform for surveillance radar target detection in a 3-D data map

    , Article 2008 IEEE Radar Conference, RADAR 2008, Rome, 26 May 2008 through 30 May 2008 ; 2008 ; 9781424415397 (ISBN) Moqiseh, A ; Nayebi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
A new method based on Hough transform is introduced for detection of linear trajectories in a 3-D data space. Data space is constructed from returned radar data using range, bearing, and time information. This information is then mapped into a 3-D Cartesian data space. The near constant velocity target trajectories appear as straight lines in this space, and are detected by the usage of the new method which is based on two 2-D Hough transforms in the bearing-time and range-time data spaces. The efficacy of this Combinational Hough transform method is verified by simulation and shown that it has a better performance, as compared with one 2-D data map case, where only uses the range-time...

Efficient 3-D positioning using time-delay and AOA measurements in MIMO radar systems

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; 2017 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Amiri, R ; Behnia, F ; Zamani, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This letter investigates the problem of threedimensional (3-D) target localization in multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) radars with distributed antennas, using hybrid timedelay (TD) and angle of arrival (AOA) measurements. We propose a closed-form positioning method based on weighted least squares (WLS) estimation. The proposed estimator is shown theoretically to achieve the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) under mild noise conditions. Numerical simulations also verify the theoretical developments. IEEE

    Abstract
This paper presents a feasibility study on using satellite signal for passive radar application. Our focus is on utilizing geostationary Earth orbit satellite signal with suitable properties, like Inmarsat. Then, a new method of detection for passive coherent location using adaptive filter weights variation model is presented. To evaluate the performance, three different scenarios including a low Earth orbit satellite, a space shuttle, and a high-altitude aircraft as the targets of interest are considered. In addition to being covert, it will be shown that using such passive radar system, we can benefit the forward scatter enhancement, which enables us to detect such high-altitude targets...

Positioning of geostationary satellite by Radio Interferometry

    Abstract
There are several perturbations that force the satellite orbit to deviate from the elliptical form. To cope with these perturbations, station keeping is applied. For accurate station keeping, determination of the true satellite orbit is necessary. Radio interferometry is one of the techniques used for determining azimuth and elevation look angles of a satellite. In this paper we introduce three structures based on interferometry for determining the view angles of satellites .The estimated angles are combined with range measurement for orbital positioning of geostationary (GEO) satellites. In the proposed interferometry structures, to acquire the required angular accuracy, the distance...

Practical distributed maneuvering target tracking using delayed information of heterogeneous unregistered sensors

    , Article Signal Processing ; Volume 193 , 2022 ; 01651684 (ISSN) Ahi, B ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Registration is the most consequential topic to be dealt with in a multi-sensor tracking system. On the other hand, providing satisfactory target acceleration estimation would enhance the performance of a ground-based air defense system encountering a maneuvering target. The main novelty of the present work is addressing a new scheme to solve the registration problem in a distributed network along with estimating accurate target acceleration, simultaneously. The details of coping with three common kinds of measurement, attitude, and location biases are explored concentrating on the effects of attitude bias as the main error source from the practical viewpoint. A modified iterated extended...
