    The turbulent limit of three dimensional Burger equation was studied. An adjusting parameter emerged through the calculations, based on mean field analysis, that was the scaling exponent of conditional density-density correlations.     Turbulence–chemistry interaction models such as the conditional moment closure and various flamelet models require a presumed Probability Density Function (PDF) model of the conditioning variables. In turbulent stratified flames, a joint-PDF model for a reaction progress variable and the mixture fraction is required. The joint-PDF is often modelled by two beta functions using the first and second moments of the two conditioning variables.     Abstract
    A time series study of the electrical energy generated by wind turbines and solar cells shows that the energy produced has a lot of fluctuations due to the geographic conditions. These ups and downs have caused not only the share of these sources to be marginal, but also they lead to the volatility of electric power plants. By examining several different data from different countries and regions with the frequency of second and minute, we show that different scale behaviors exist at different time intervals and reveal their other random and nonlinear characteristics.     Abstract
    The exact stability condition for certain class of fractional-order (multivalued) transfer functions is presented. Unlike the conventional case that the stability is directly studied by investigating the poles of the transfer function, in the systems under consideration, the branch points must also come into account as another kind of singularities. It is shown that a multivalued transfer function can behave unstably because of the numerator term while it has no unstable poles.     Capillary pressure curves, which have been employed for a long period of time by researchers interested in pore size distribution, are commonly obtained from experimental measurements. The dynamic capillary pressure that influences the flow is affected by many factors including the pore size characteristics and pore scale dynamics.     Full potential density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed for the MgB2 superconductor. Results show that applying positive (negative) pressure leads to a decrement (increment) in the DOS at the Fermi level that this calculations suggest a decrement in Tc under application of positive pressure. In the Γ - A path of momentum space, the band which has the dominant role in conduction properties, moves upward when c increases or a decreases, and moves downward when c decreases or a increases.     Abstract
    The electronic structure of high temperature superconductor YBCO is calculated by pseudopotential density functional theory using VASP code for different values of ZO(4). Comparison of the results of equilibrium ZO(4) with other calculation techniques indicates the capability of pseudopotential VASP code in energy band structure calculations for HTSCs. Both charge distribution and band structure calculations indicate the transfer of hole carriers from the CuO chains to the CuU2 planes with the increase of ZO(4). It is resulted that the increase of Cu(1)-0(4) bond lengths causes the creation of holes in the CuO2 planes. The redistribution of charge density confirms the charge transfer...

    In this paper, an adaptive algorithm for blind source separation in linear instantaneous mixtures is proposed, and it is shown to be the optimum version of the EASI algorithm. The algorithm is based on minimization of mutual information of outputs. This minimization is done using adaptive estimation of a recently proposed non-parametric "gradient" for mutual information. © Springer-Verlag 2004

    Abstract
    We investigate the Markov property of rough surfaces. Using stochastic analysis, we characterize the complexity of the surface roughness by means of a Fokker-Planck or Langevin equation. The obtained Langevin equation enables us to regenerate surfaces with similar statistical properties compared with the observed morphology by atomic force microscopy. © 2003 The American Physical Society

    In this paper, we experimentally investigate the statistical distribution of intensity fluctuations for underwater wireless optical channels under different channel conditions, namely fresh and salty underwater channels with and without air bubbles. To do so, we first measure the received optical signal with a large number of samples. Based on the normalized acquired data the channel coherence time and the fluctuations probability density function (PDF) are obtained for different channel scenarios. Our experimental results show that salt attenuates the received signal while air bubbles mainly introduce severe intensity fluctuations.     We study queueing systems where customers have strict deadlines until the end of their service. An analytic method is given for the analysis of a class of such queues, namely, M(n)/M/1 + G models with ordered service. These are single-server queues with state-dependent Poisson arrival process, exponential service times, FCFS service discipline, and general customer impatience. We derive a closed-form solution for the conditional probability density function of the offered sojourn time, given the number of customers in the system.     Abstract
    The folding rates of protein were shown to correlate with the degree of heterogeneity in the formation of native contacts. It was shown that both experimental rates and simulated free energy barriers for 2-state proteins depend on the degree of heterogeneity present in the folding process. Heterogeneity due to variance in the distribution of native loop lengths, and variance in the distribution of φ values, were observed to increase folding rates and reduce folding barriers. The observed effect due to φ variance was found to be the most statistically significant, because φ variance captures both heterogeneity arising from native topology and that arising from energetics
