    Abstract
Online power system stability assessment during restoration has not been strongly addressed yet. The introduction of wide area measurement systems (WAMS), however, made it possible to monitor the stability online. This study technically presents a detailed analysis of stability during restoration using WAMS. The power system build-up strategy is used as the restoration approach, based on which the early and the last stages of restoration are to divide the power system into islands and interconnect them, respectively. In fact, the practical use of WAMS at the early stages of restoration provides precise determination of generators loading steps. Moreover, unification of phase angle references...

Transmission congestion management using distributed generation considering load uncertainty

    , Article Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference, APPEEC, 28 March 2010 through 31 March 2010 ; March , 2010 ; 21574839 (ISSN) ; 9781424448135 (ISBN) Afkousi Paqaleh, M ; Noory, A. R ; Abbaspour T. F., A ; Rashidinejad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This Paper presents a model for optimal locating and sizing of Distributed Generation (DG) for congestion management in deregulated electricity market. For reducing the solution space a priority list of candidate buses is formed and then optimal placement and sizing of DG in potential buses is discussed. In order to incorporate stochastic nature of power system in this study, Monte-Carlo method is used to simulate the effect of uncertainty of loads and system on the optimal location and size of the DGs in the network. The proposed method is applied to IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS). The impacts of load uncertainty on optimum DG size and location are studied

    Abstract
The Iranian government has started and performed several Information Technology (IT) development plans and projects during recent years with the aim of taking advantage of IT in developing governmental services and increasing their efficiency. This case study intends to investigate the overall effectiveness of the implemented plans according to viewpoints of experts. A survey was conducted in The 1st International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Management in which the attendants were experts from academia and public sector. The questions were designed to obtain their views and standpoints about various issues concerning the success of IT plans in different segments...

Distributed generation placement for congestion management considering economic and financial issues

    , Article Electrical Engineering ; Volume 92, Issue 6 , November , 2010 , Pages 193-201 ; 09487921 (ISSN) Afkousi Paqaleh, M ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, A ; Rashidinejad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Congestion management is one of the most important functions of independent system operator (ISO) in the restructured power system. This paper presents two new methodologies for optimal sitting and sizing of distributed generations (DGs) in the restructured power systems for congestion management. The proposed methodologies are based upon locational marginal price (LMP) and congestion rent that forms a priority list of candidate buses to reduce the solution space. The proposed priority list facilitates the optimal placement as well as the level of output power of DGs. The proposed methods are implemented on the IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 57-bus test systems to illustrate their effectiveness. An...

Risk based maintenance optimization of overhead distribution networks utilizing priority based dynamic programming

    , Article 2009 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, PES '09, 26 July 2009 through 30 July 2009, Calgary, AB ; 2009 ; 9781424442416 (ISBN) Abbasi, E ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Abiri Jahromi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents a priority based dynamic programming approach for long term maintenance scheduling of overhead distribution networks. The proposed approach is based on risk management approach and utilizes the model of decoupled risk factors. Two heuristic factors are defined and utilized in order to establish a maintenance priority list and to curtail the dynamic programming search space. The proposed methodology yields a significant computational saving compare to the previously reported dynamic programming. Risk management approach enables the asset managers to consider the actual condition of electrical equipments and expected consequence of their failures. Furthermore, the decoupled...
