    Abstract
The formation of macroporous bioactive hydroxyapatite(HA) coatings using polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) particles were studied. The porous HA coatings were prepared onto a pure titanium substrate by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) at 120 V for 1.5 min using ethanol suspensions mixture of HA (500 nm in size) and PTFE (1-3 μm in size) particles. Subsequently, the composite coatings obtained by EPD were heated at 900 °C for 60 min to disintegrate the organic PTFE particles and sinter the inorganic HA particles. The calcinations of the PTFE led to the formation of porosity in the HA coating. These results demonstrate a new method for creating porous HA coatings on titanium. © 2006 Elsevier B.V....

    Abstract
Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces find many applications in different fields of science. The aerospace industry is one such field that can take the advantage of superhydrophobicity for anti-icing coatings. In order to make hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces on hydrophilic materials, two-step process is usually need, at first, making a rough surface and then modifying it with hydrophobic coatings with low surface free energy. In this research, we have used glancing angle deposition (GLAD) RF sputtering technique to fabricate Teflon coated tungsten on glass substrate for obtaining hydrophobic surface. GLAD approach is a method to grow structures such as nanorods and zigzag...

    Abstract
Electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol on a nickel disc electrode coated with nickel dimethyglyoxime complex (NiDMG), conditioned by potential recycling in a potential range of 100-700 mV (versus SCE) is studied by cyclic voltammetry in alkaline medium (0.10 M NaOH). The results show that the NiODMG layer formed at the surface of electrode behaves as an efficient electrocatalyst for the oxidation of methanol in alkaline medium via Ni(III) species with the cross exchange reaction occurring through out the layer at a low concentration of methanol. A plausible mechanism was proposed for catalytic oxidation of methanol at this modified electrode. Moreover, the effects of various parameters such...

    , Article Carbon ; Volume 81, Issue 1 , 2015 , Pages 158-166 ; 00086223 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) molecules were utilized as light-driven proton pumps for green as well as effective reduction of single-layer graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The bR molecules and graphene sheets were separated from each other in an aqueous environment by using a polytetrafluoroethylene membrane filter, in order to prevent their direct interactions (including attachment of the bR molecules onto the GO). Although reduction of GO using hydrazine or bR showed similar deoxygenation levels (based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), the former resulted in formation of CAN bonds which can substantially decrease the electrical conductivity of the reduced sheets. The electrical characteristics of...

    Abstract
Blood vessels, especially large vessels have a greater thermal effect on freezing tissue during cryosurgery. Vascular networks act as heat sources in tissue, and cause failure in cryosurgery and reappearance of cancer. The aim of this study is to numerically simulate the effect of probe location and multiprobe on heat transfer distribution. Furthermore, the effect of nanoparticles injection is studied. It is shown that the small probes location near large blood vessels could help to reduce the necessary time for tissue freezing. Nanoparticles injection shows that the thermal effect of blood vessel in tissue is improved. Using Au, Ag and diamond nanoparticles have the most growth of ice ball...

    Abstract
H2S and CO2 are the main impurities in raw natural gas, which needs to be purified before use. However, the comprehensive utilization of H2S and CO2 has been ignored. Herein, we proposed a fully resource-based method to convert toxic gas H2S and greenhouse gas CO2 synchronously into CO and elemental S by using a novel electrochemical reactor. The special designs include that, in the anodic chamber, H2S was oxidized rapidly to S based on the I−/I3− cyclic redox system to avoid anode passivation. On the other hand, in the cathodic chamber, CO2 was rapidly and selectively reduced to CO based on a porous carbon gas diffusion electrode (GDE) modified with polytetrafluoroethylene and cobalt...
