The effects of applied magnetic and electric fields on electrospinning were investigated to produce more efficient nanofibers. Considering the previous extensive studies, polyamide nanofibers were prepared by a conventional approach and under auxiliary electric and magnetic fields. The first sorbent was synthesized by electrospinning of a solution of 18% polyamide in formic acid. The second and third types of polyamide were prepared similarly while the electrospinning processes were assisted by an electric and a magnetic field. The third type of polyamide contained a magnetic ionic liquid (MIL) to induce sufficient magnetic susceptibility in the polymeric solution. The SEM images revealed...

    Springer New York LLC  2016
    Abstract
CO2-laser irradiation was used to modify the surface properties of thin-film composite (TFC) polyamide reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. These membranes were first synthesized via interfacial polymerization of m-phenylenediamine (MPD) monomers and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) over porous polysulfone ultrafiltration support, followed by a CO2-irradiation. AFM, ATR-FTIR, SEM and contact angle measurements were used to characterize the surface properties of these membranes. The ATR-FTIR results indicated that CO2-laser irradiation did not induce any functional groups on the membrane surface. However, it was found that the laser irradiation enhanced the NaCl salt rejection and slightly reduced the...

Study on dynamic and mechanical characteristics of carbon fiber- and polyamide fiber-reinforced seismic isolators

    , Article Materials and Structures/Materiaux et Constructions ; Volume 47, Issue 3 , March , 2014 , Pages 447-457 ; ISSN: 13595997 Bakhshi, A ; Jafari, M. H ; Valadoust Tabrizi, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Seismic isolators are used to decrease the energy and forces of earthquakes. The weight of conventional steel-reinforced elastomeric isolators (SREIs) is high, mostly due to the use of multiple steel shim plates. On the contrary, the damping ratio of SREIs is relatively low. Accordingly, this research utilizes a new approach in which the steel shim plates are replaced by carbon and polyamide fibers. This study attempts to obtain the dynamic and mechanical properties of such carbon fiber- and polyamide fiber-reinforced elastomeric isolators, in comparison with SREIs. In this work, a number of specimens were initially designed and manufactured. Afterwards, compression and cyclic shear tests...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Orshesh, Ziba (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Polypropylene/clay nanocomposites are considered as a group of widely used nanocomposites in industrial applications due to their desired properties, yet reasonable cost. However, dissimmilar chemical nature of polypropylene and clay do not allow perfect dispersion of silicate layeres in the matrix and thus restricts full advantages of these composites. An earlier investigation in this group considered solving this shortcoming through incorporation of PA6 as an intermediate phase to enhance clay platelets dispersion. The current project follows this route via studing the influence of molecular weight of the PP matrix, compatibilzer and the mixing procedure of the compound. To investigate the...

    Abstract
Taghizadeh Manzari, M. (MehrdadThe main goals of this project are studding the effect of carbon nanotube on the properties of PA6/PA66 matrix and miscibility of PA6/PA66 blend. So PA6/PA66/CNT nanocomposites were compounded by melt mixing method and samples were prepared by injection molding. Due to study miscibility of PA6 and PA66, we used DMTA test and found that PA6 and PA66 are miscible because of existing one pick on DMTA graph. Also DSC test results confirmed that PA6 and PA66 are miscible. Moreover, according to DMTA results, modulus will be rose by increasing CNT content. Mechanical test showed same results in this case. Adding 1%CNT to matrix caused 10% improvement in modulus and...
