    Abstract
Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy and subsequent acoustic response during microplasma formation are employed to identify cancerous human breast tissues. The characteristic optical emissions identify Ca, Na, and Mg rich species in cancerous tissues compared to those of healthy ones. Furthermore, we show that the characteristic parameters of the microplasma, generated on the unhealthy tissues, are elevated. We report higher decibel audio signals emanating from laser induced microplasma and a subsequent audio blueshift for malignant tissues. The higher abundance of trace elements in cancerous tissues as well as higher plasma temperature and electron density in laser induced microplasma...

Studying soft X-Rays emitted by SUT-PF using a cylindrical bent crystal spectrometer

    , Article Journal of Fusion Energy ; Volume 35, Issue 2 , 2016 , Pages 346-351 ; 01640313 (ISSN) Etaati, G. R ; Hosseinzadeh, A ; Nazmabadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Plasma focus is a copious source of electrons, ions, neutrons, and X-rays. SUT-PF is a 7 kJ Mather type plasma focus device. In order to study soft X-rays emitted by this device a bent crystal spectrometer has been designed and constructed based on Johann method. Before recording spectral lines, using a photodiode detector and a pinhole camera, optimum parameters for maximum emission of soft X-rays have been studied and registered. Results show that ionized Argon atomic lines mostly have wavelengths between 3 and 4 Å. Among them 1s2–1s2p transition with a wavelength of 3.943 Å represents the most intense line

Design and fabrication of a movable langmuir probe for plasma edge parameters measurement in the IR-T1 tokamak

    , Article Journal of Fusion Energy ; Volume 28, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 296-299 ; 01640313 (ISSN) Shariatzadeh, R ; Ghoranneviss, M ; Emami, M ; Anvari, A ; Van Oost, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
For the edge plasma parameters measurement, a movable Langmuir probe is fabricated and installed on the IR-T1 tokamak. The set-up consists of two sets of single Langmuir probes with tungsten tip movable in the radial direction. Edge plasma parameters including electron temperature, Ion density, floating potential and the corresponding radial changes are measured. Using two-point correlation technique clearly reveal that in the SOL region the poloidal propagation of floating potential fluctuation is in the direction of ion diamagnetic drift and in the edge it propagates in the electron diamagnetic drift direction. © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC

    Abstract
In this study, electrolytic plasma processing (EPP) was employed for surface nitrocarburizing of AISI 1020 steel in a urea electrolyte, where the substrate samples were connected cathodically to a high-voltage DC current power supply. The structural, mechanical, wear and corrosion properties of the samples treated for 3-5 min were investigated. The results show that the surface layers formed on the samples by this treatment at 220 V have a ferritic nitrocarburizing characteristic which consists of a compound layer and diffusion zone. The surface layers of the treated samples at 240 V consisted of a compound layer, martensitic layer and diffusion zone, respectively, which is a marker of...

Recent results of edge plasma parameters measurements in IR-T1 tokamak by probe

    , Article Journal of Fusion Energy ; Volume 29, Issue 3 , June , 2010 , Pages 271-274 ; 01640313 (ISSN) Shariatzadeh, R ; Emami, M ; Ghoranneviss, M ; Abaspour Tehrani Fard, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Langmuir probes (LP) are the most common diagnostics for the local measurement of very important plasma parameters such as plasma density, electron temperature, plasma potential and the electron energy distribution function (EEDF). In this paper the applicability of the first derivative Langmuir probe method in processing the electron part of the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics in IR-T1 Tokamak is reported. The EEDF at different radial positions in the edge region and Scrape off Layer (SOL) are derived and the values of the plasma potential, electron temperature and electron density are estimated. Results comparison between the first derivative method and Stangeby method shows a...

Deposition of metallic molybdenum thin films on 304L steel substrate by SUT-PF

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; 2016 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Hosseinzadeh, A ; Nazmabadi, M ; Vosoughi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B. V
    Abstract
The present research work aims to employ plasma focus in order to deposit molybdenum (Mo) on the 304 stainless steel substrate. The processing parameters were shot numbers as well as the distance of substrate from the anode tip. Stereo, atom force microscopy (AFM) and field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to study the deposited coatings. Microhardness measurements were also performed on the coatings. Results indicated that the plasma focus can be successfully applied to deposit Mo anode on the stainless steel substrate. The coatings contained discrete pores with sizes varying by processing parameters. The...

Second law analysis of an infinitely segmented magnetohydrodynamic generator

    , Article Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials ; Volume 426 , 2017 , Pages 294-301 ; 03048853 (ISSN) Arash, A ; Saidi, M. H ; Najafi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The performance of an infinitely segmented magnetohydrodynamic generator is analyzed using the second law of thermodynamics entropy generation criterion. The exact analytical solution of the velocity and temperature fields are provided by applying the modified Hartmann flow model, taking into account the occurrence of the Hall effect in the considered generator. Contributions of heat transfer, fluid friction, and ohmic dissipation to the destruction of useful available work are found, and the nature of irreversibilities in the considered generator is determined. In addition, the electrical isotropic efficiency scheme is used to evaluate the generator performance. Finally, the implication of...

    Abstract
The present research aims at depositing molybdenum on stainless steel substrate using dense plasma focus (DPF) device. The varying parameter was the angular position of substrate surface from the anode tip. The deposited layers were characterized using various analyses such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and microhardness measurements. Microstructural observations revealed that the deposited coatings had rough surfaces containing holes as well as a stripe-featured structure covering the whole surface including the interior regions of the holes and the regions among them....

A mixture of vortex terahertz radiation generation in inhomogeneous plasma by considering pump depletion

    Abstract
An attempt to extend helical terahertz radiation generation based on pump depletion is presented here. By considering an upward plasma density ramp, such a reasonable extension is examined to improve the results. It is claimed that the output terahertz energy is saturated which is attributed to laser pump divergence. The saturation effect is enhanced by considering suitable laser and plasma parameters. The adjustable slope of the density ramp is an important parameter for tuning terahertz generation effciency, which is restricted to the up and down limit. For the resonant excitation of terahertz radiation, the ripple wave number is suitably chosen to satisfy the phase matching condition....
