Accuracy of Kinect's skeleton tracking for upper body rehabilitation applications

    , Article Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology ; Vol. 9, issue. 4 , 2014 , pp. 344-352 ; ISSN: 17483107 Mobini, A ; Behzadipour, S ; Saadat Foumani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Games and their use in rehabilitation have formed a new and rapidly growing area of research. A critical hardware component of rehabilitation programs is the input device that measures the patients' movements. After Microsoft released Kinect, extensive research has been initiated on its applications as an input device for rehabilitation. However, since most of the works in this area rely on a qualitative determination of the joints' movements rather than an accurate quantitative one, detailed analysis of patients' movements is hindered. The aim of this article is to determine the accuracy of the Kinect's joint tracking. To fulfill this task, a model of upper body was fabricated. The...

    Abstract
Objective This study was conducted to evaluate the changes occurring in the thickness of deep trunk muscles, measured using ultrasound imaging, after 4 wks of lumbosacral orthosis use in conjunction with routine physical therapy. Design This parallel-group, randomized, controlled trial was conducted on 44 patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain, randomly allocated to the experimental and control groups. Both groups received eight sessions of physical therapy twice per week for 4 wks. The experimental group wore nonextensible lumbosacral orthosis, in addition to undergoing routine physical therapy. The thickness of the transversus abdominis, obliquus internus, and lumbar multifidus...

Effect of vibration on postural control and gait of elderly subjects: a systematic review

    , Article Aging Clinical and Experimental Research ; Volume 30, Issue 7 , 2018 , Pages 713-726 ; 15940667 (ISSN) Aboutorabi, A ; Arazpour, M ; Bahramizadeh, M ; Farahmand, F ; Fadayevatan, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Background and aim: Gait and balance disorders are common in the elderly populations, and their prevalence increases with age. This systematic review was performed to summarize the current evidence for subthreshold vibration interventions on postural control and gait in elderly. Method: A review of intervention studies including the following words in the title/abstract: insole, foot and ankle appliances, vibration, noise and elderly related to balance and gait. Databases searched included PubMed, ISI Web of Knowledge, Ovid, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Fifteen articles were selected for final evaluation. The procedure was followed using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews...
