    Abstract
The final goal in a perforation operation is achieving the maximum production and reducing perforation damage, using optimal completion process. The Dynamic Underbalanced Perforation (DUP) as one of the more recent completion technologies minimizes or even eliminates the perforation crushed zone by optimizing the well's dynamic underbalance. Dynamic underbalance is a transient underbalance process that occurs immediately after creation of the perforation tunnels. The modeling of this process is essential in designing the optimal configuration of the perforation charges to evaluate the perforation efficiency. In this study we propose a novel and efficient numerical method, to optimize the...

Effect of opening dimensions on the relative flexural operation of coupled shear walls

    , Article Asian Journal of Civil Engineering ; Volume 13, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 417-427 ; 15630854 (ISSN) Torki Harcheganiu, M. E ; Talaei Taba, B ; Farahbod, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Effect of openings' dimensions on the relative flexural behavior of adjacent piers (independent or conjugate) in perforated shear walls is addressed. 384 designed models were made and exposed to lateral loads. For middle openings, in addition to the alpha parameter in the literature, the relative flexural behavior of piers in medium-rise buildings can be predicted as function of thickness-to-length ratio of the coupling beam and the ratio of the coupling beam length to the pier length; but in high-rise buildings, it is always conjugate. For corner openings, the alpha parameter must be modified with respect to the number of stories

    Abstract
An existing operational trisonic wind tunnel is upgraded to improve its performance criterion in the transonic regime. In this research, the test section is modified according to the operational requirements of the various existing transonic wind tunnels. Several perforated walls are designed, manufactured, and installed on the top and bottom sides of the test section. The flow in the test section of the wind tunnel is surveyed for the empty condition prior to testing models. Once satisfactory results regarding the flow quality requirements in the test section under various conditions were achieved, a 2D model, NACA 0012, and a 3D standard model for the transonic wind tunnels, AGARD-B, are...

Fluid Sloshing in Tanks with Perforated Baffles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zojaji, Mohammad Masoud (Author) ; Dehghani Firouzabadi, Rouhollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The issue of fluid sloshing in vessels is of paramount importance in aerospace engineering. To suppress sloshing Baffles are used and one kind of baffles is “Perforated Baffle” that is good in weight efficiency. When fluid passes through Perforated Baffle, the energy dissipates and sloshing induces. The purpose of this study is to develop a model for linear sloshing in presence of a Perforated Baffle in the vessel. In this project, the flow is modeled by potential function. The Flow may be rotational in the nearby of baffle due to viscosity when it passes through-out perforations, so Laplace's equation for the velocity potential is useless in this region. To simulate the flow in such zones,...

Experimental Study of Hydraulic Characteristics of Perforated Pipes in Submerged Area

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Olyaei, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Jamali, Mir Mosaddegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In small settling tanks, the sludges can be removed using perforated pipes. In this method the pipe is placed in the depth of a fluid and the lateral inflow through perforations lead to the outlet. Since there are few researches about hydraulic characteristic of perforated pipes, this research will investigate the hyadraulic characteristic of these pipes experimentally. One of the main objectives of these pipes is to use the entire lenghte of the pipe and also provide the uniform distribution of inflow. In the past studies, it was found out that inflow mostly comes through downstream perforations. The objective of this research is to find the distribution of discharge along the perporated...

    , Article Life Science Journal ; Volume 9, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 1377-1383 ; 10978135 (ISSN) Momenzadeh, S. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Fragile behavior in the area around the connections which is tangent on beam to column and also incidence of brittle cracks and failures in this area, in the event of severe ground shaking, are the main problems and disadvantages that have negative effect on the performance of steel bending frames and would have restrictions effect on the of the frame's plasticity behavior. To solve the problem of bending the frame, two methods have been proposed. In the first method, the connection will be strengthened so that has enough resistance and sufficient strength to prevent cracks and failures to non-elastic deformation of the frame in the inner part of beams be answered. In the second method,...

Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Suction and Wall Porosity on the Surface Pressure and Aerodynamic Forces in Transonic Wind Tunnel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amiri, Kaveh (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Transonic speed is one of the most important flight regimes. There are two main significances related to it. First, all of the supersonic air vehicles should pass through this regime to reach to their final speed. Second, nowadays most of the commercial airplanes fly in nearsonic speeds. According to nonlinear nature of the flow through the speeds, the related researchers haven’t been successful in development of a comprehensive theory as well as subsonic and supersonic ones. So, transonic flow is one of the most critical regimes in wind tunnel testing. In order to eliminate the shock-boundary layer interaction and wave cancellation, perforated walls and side suction are used in test section...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Merikhnezhad, Atieh (Author) ; Dehghani Firouzabadi, Rooholah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, sloshing of a rectangular container with perforated baffle is being analysed. Employing the linear sloshing theorem, we construct an accurate numerical and analytical approximation of natural sloshing mode in rectangular container with perforated baffle. Two dimensional irrotational flow of an ideal incompressible liquid is assumed. Finally the dissipated energy is being measured and equal viscous damping was calculated. So the perforation in which the damping is being maximized is determined and finally the results being compared with some experimental and analytical results from journal paper

    Abstract
The main objective of perforating is to connect the wellbore to the reservoir zone by creating tunnels through casing and damaged zone into the undamaged rock. The process of detonating perforation charges generally causes damage due to crushed rock material around the perforation tunnels. There are different methods used to mitigate damage due to perforation, such as static and dynamic underbalanced perforation. In static underbalanced perforation, conventional high shot density perforating guns are run in underbalanced conditions in order to have clean-up after perforation. In dynamic underbalanced perforation, a specific gun design associated with gun puncher charges provides dynamic...

Homogenization Theory and its Applications in Periodic and Perforated Domains

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseinkhan, Alireza (Author) ; Fotouhi Firouzabad, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Through this thesis the Homogenization Theory for composite materials is studied assuming that the distribution of heterogeneities is periodic. In this theory two scales characterize the problem: microscopic and macroscopic scale. The first method that is used to solve the problem is the classical Asymptotic Expansion method where an error estimate is presented for the solution. The second method which was introduced by Luc Tartar for the first time is Oscillating Test Functions method. In the next chapter after introducing the concept of two-scale convergence, the Two-Scale Convergence method has been introduced. At last the unfolding
periodic method, which is based on the concept of...

Numerical Investigation of Concrete Beams Reinforced with Perforated Plates

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseinzadeh, Ali (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the flexural behavior of simple concrete beams with rectangular section (depth 20cm and width 18 cm) reinforced with perforated steel plates is evaluated. Perforated steel plates are used as an alternative for steel bars in the tension region. Because of special geometry, these plates are more integrated with surrounding concrete as compared with steel rebars. The holes in the plates caused local confinement on the surrounding concrete. Concrete beams are modeled with different number of perforated steel plates (one or two or four layer) in Abaqus software. Also beams with different patch lengths are modeled to evaluate patch length of perforated steel plates. Results of...

Carrying Capacity of Perforated Pipes in Submerged Area

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nabaei, Milad (Author) ; Borghei, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Selective withdrawal from water and settlement reservoirs and tanks is necessary for water and environmental systems. Perforated pipes can be used for selective withdrawal within the length of these reservoirs. In this method, the lateral inflow through perforations leads to the outlet of the pipe that is placed in a depth of fluid. In relation to the hydraulics of perforated pipes, most studies are about drainage pipes and perforated pipes that are used as wellbores in horizontal wells, but application of these pipes have not been investigated in submerged situations. Capacity estimation of perforated pipes based on inside diameter of the pipe, material of the pipe, perforations of the...

Simulation of Flow Drag Reduction through Air Injection from the Porous Wall

    Abstract
The effect of using backpressure of air injection in a microchannel on internal flow pressure drop were investigated in this study. Multiphase flows are commonly encountered in gas and oil industries. Flow fields in production operations are often complex and include multiphase flows of gas and liquid. Previously, because of their complex nature, these flow patterns have been mostly investigated only experimentally and empirical correlations based on the experimental data. From another point of view, it is almost impossible to experimentally realize all the flow conditions for each of the flow patterns. Nowadays computer facilities provide the tool to construct and use large-scale...

Optimization of Resonator’s Acoustic Performance in the Muffler Set

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadi, Alireza (Author) ; Khodaygan, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Noise pollution is one of the major issues in automative industry. Many of these noises are caused by the internal combustion engine. Using reactive mufflers in the car's exhaust path can effectively reduce this annoying noises. Imposed pressure drop caused by installation this mufflers must be within an acceptable range for the car engine. Resonators, despite having a much lower pressure drop than other components of the exhaust system, can be used to cover the weaknesses of the muffler in the acoustic performance of the noise reduction set. One of the most common methods for designing a resonator is to use perforated plates. In this study the effect of various geometric parameters of a...

Experimental and Numerical Studies on Trapezoid Ally Corrugated Steel Shear Walls with Opening under Cyclic Loading

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Yaseri Gilvaei, Majid (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Steel shear wall is a lateral load resistance system, which has been taken into consideration in recent decades for designing and reinforcing high-rise buildings. This system is comprised of steel filler panel surrounded by frame members including beams and columns. Steel shear walls are presently fabricated in two types, stiffened and unstiffened. According to numerous conducted research, it can be stated that the stiffened type has better seismic performance. The use of stiffeners with a great number of executive details is required to spend more time and costs on the construction sector. In order to solve these problems, some experimental and numerical studies have been conducted on...
