    Abstract
Maritime structures such as waterfronts, offshore platforms and hulks all face different maritime sediments. There are different methods to prevent the growth of organic and non-organic material on humid surfaces, but the utilization of antifouling paints has had the most efficiency. The growth of these maritime pollutions has been stopped on hulks by the antifouling paints. Ever since the nineteenth century, antifouling paints have been utilized with different mechanisms and the most important one was the TBT self-polishing paints that were banned in 2003 by the International Marine Organization (IMO) because of the high pollution it creates in the environment. There have been many efforts...

    , Article Polymer Testing ; Volume 71 , 2018 , Pages 72-86 ; 01429418 (ISSN) Houshmand Khaneghahi, M ; Pournamazian Najafabadi, E ; Shoaei, P ; Vatani Oskouei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper investigates the influence of intumescent paint on the performance of FRP bars subjected to low (25–450 °C) and severe (450–800 °C) elevated temperatures. In this research, glass and carbon FRP bars with epoxy resin and coated with nitrogen-based intumescent paint were used. In addition to the temperature effects, a variety of FRP bar diameters were employed to determine its effect on the tensile behavior of FRP bars in the presence of intumescent paint. Further, Bayesian regression methods and ANOVA (ANalysis Of VAriance) were applied on the results to develop a predictive model form and quantify the contribution of the variables in the tensile performance of FRP bars,...

    Abstract
Wall walking robots are designed for different purposes, rescue operations, wall inspections and jobs such as painting and cleaning and fire fighting for tall buildings. These are some cases that these types of robots are extensively used. This paper describes a design of a new serial mechanism for wall climbing job. In deed we are seeking to define a minimum degree of freedom mechanism to be applied in a robot moving vertically on a surface. This mechanism has 5 links, but at any point it works with its 4 links, actually in each cycle of motion the linkage will be interchanged. Copyright © 2006 by ASME

    Abstract
In automobile painting industries, new automobile body products frequently should be tested in order to determine the actual thermal behavior of a paint curing process before starting mass production. During the hardening processes of dipped paint coating, applied in the electrophoretic enameling process, or top paint coating, applied in the final coating process, the automobile body must be warmed up according to the specific paint manufacturer curve. Consequently, prediction of car body temperature during the curing process may be vital in the design and performance analysis of the paint ovens. Numerical simulation of these processes may reduce expensive and time-consuming experimental...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jalaee, Adel (Author) ; Afshar, Abdollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Plants and aquatic creatures growth on the surface of human made structures is a typical phenomena. One of the approaches to prevent algae and moss to grow is using paint coatings including biocides. In this research project, anti-moss paints containing Copper Oxide as the major biocide and Zinc Oxide as the minor biocide have been synthesized. The effects of different parameters like the type of resin, biocide concentration, biocide grain sizes, dip time, and the coating layer thickness on the release rate which is the most important factor to prevent moss growth, have been investigated. Then, the experiment has been conducted on the specimens in algae growth and flustered sea water...

    Abstract
In this study, the effects of fiber type (i.e., carbon and glass fibers) and intumescent paint on the tensile performance of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets at elevated temperatures are investigated. For this purpose, a series of tensile tests were conducted on the glass and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP and CFRP) sheets, with and without intumescent fire retardant paint, at different elevated temperatures. The studied temperatures ranged from 25 °C to 600 °C. Scanning electron microscopy was also used to examine the effects of elevated temperatures on FRP sheets and the fire protecting mechanism of the intumescent paint. Based on the test results, the tensile strength of the...

Recently, Multispectral Imaging of paintings, in different frequency bands from...

Implementation of Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP)Method for Pressure Distribution Measurement

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Farhad (Author) ; Kebriaei, Azadeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Quantitative measurement of pressure on surfaces in wind tunnels and flight tests is essential to understand the aerodynamic performance of flying vehicles. Pressure data are also essential for validation and verification of computational fluid dynamics codes. One of the relatively new methods of measuring pressure distribution on aerodynamic surfaces is the method of pressure sensitive paint (PSP). The PSP method is an optical technique that can measure the pressure distribution on the surface without using common pressure sensors or transducers, with greater spatial resolution and lower cost. This method has a unique ability for non-contact (non-interfering) measurements. In this method,...

Condensation enhancement on hydrophobic surfaces using electrophoretic method and hybrid paint coating

    , Article Heat Transfer Engineering ; 26 August , 2020 Najafpour, S ; Moosavi, A ; Najafkhani, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis Ltd  2020
    Abstract
Condensation heat transfer on stainless steel tube utilizing superhydrophobic coatings was investigated. The electrophoretic deposition and spraying methods were employed to coat the tubes’ outer surface. The mixture that was synthesized for spray coating was a hybrid paint. It incorporated polyurethane matrix and a colloidal suspension containing organic nanoparticles. The hybrid paint had a proper adhesion to the substrate which caused more durability compared to the electrophoretic coating. The agglomeration of nanoparticles in the hybrid paint caused the formation of particles with larger size compared to the particles in the electrophoretic coating. Consequently, contact angle...

    Abstract
Depending on the type of dopant metal, many kinds of zircon based pigments are produced and blue vanadium pigment is the most important one of them. In this study, blue zircon ceramic pigments were synthesized from intermediate product, resulting from decomposition of zircon sand with NaOH. In this regard, various amounts of sulfuric acid, water, NH4VO3 as colorant, NaF as mineralizer and extra quartz were added to the prepared Na 2ZrSiO5. Role of quartz was to omit the repercussions of presence of free zirconia in the composition. The main objective of this work is to assess various reactions at different temperatures during blue pigment synthesis. Phase analysis was done by X ray...

    Abstract
Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography and flame ionization detection combined with unfolded-partial least squares is proposed as a simple, fast and reliable method to assess the quality of gasoline and to detect its potential adulterants. The data for the calibration set are first baseline corrected using a two-dimensional asymmetric least squares algorithm. The number of significant partial least squares components to build the model is determined using the minimum value of root-mean square error of leave-one out cross validation, which was 4. In this regard, blends of gasoline with kerosene, white spirit and paint thinner as frequently used adulterants are used to make...

    Abstract
Automotive industry frequently needs to test new products, according to different production parameters, in order to determine the actual thermal behavior of bodies before mass production is implemented. Numerical simulation of these processes can reduce the very expensive and time consuming experimental procedures. For the drying and hardening process of the top paint applied in the coating process, the body temperature must be raised according to the paint manufacturer regulations. Consequently, prediction of temperature distribution of the car body during various zones of ovens is very vital in the design and performance analysis of the paint dryers. In this research, a novel...
