Thermobuoyancy treatment for electronic packaging using an improved advection scheme

    , Article Journal of Electronic Packaging, Transactions of the ASME ; Volume 125, Issue 2 SPEC , 2003 , Pages 244-250 ; 10437398 (ISSN) Darbandi, M ; Schneider, G. E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
The complex nature of the convective terms in the fluid flow governing equations has caused many researchers to work on estimating more accurate advection term magnitudes by employing better approximate expressions. The trend of progress has been to include more physics of flow in the approximations. However, there is no archival evidence that reports the direct implementation of buoyancy as a physical influence in the advection term modeling. In this work, the influence of buoyancy in an efficient advection term expression is investigated in a control volume context with a collocated grid arrangement. The accuracy of the results obtained by both excluding and including the buoyancy term is...

    , Article Journal of Food Science and Technology ; Volume 57, Issue 4 , 2020 , Pages 1242-1250 Safaei, M ; Roosta Azad, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
In this study, active poly lactic acid (PLA) films containing 0, 10, 20 and 40% w/w propolis extract (PE), as active agent, were developed. A high amount of phenolic content (PC) was measured in PE. The antioxidant effect of active PLA films was determined by measuring the PC of sausage slices after 0, 2 and 4 days storage at refrigerator. Results showed that phenolic compounds of PE were released from PLA films in quantities proportional to PE concentration. Disc diffusion test indicated that PE showed an inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial species but was more effective against gram-positive species. PE containing PLA films had antimicrobial...

    Abstract
The ultimate goal of new food packaging technologies, in addition to maintaining the quality and safety of food for the consumer, is to consider environmental concerns and reduce its impacts. In this regard, one of the solutions is to use eco-friendly biopolymers instead of conventional petroleum-based polymers. However, the challenges of using biopolymers in the food packaging industry should be carefully evaluated, and techniques to eliminate or minimize their disadvantages should be investigated. Many studies have been conducted to improve the properties of biopolymer-based packaging materials to produce a favorable product for the food industry. This article reviews the structure of...

    Abstract
This paper describes a systematic approach to characterize flip-chip solder bump interconnects to accurately design mm-wave on-chip devices and matching circuits for on-package components. Variety of on-chip test structures are fabricated and measured from DC to 67 GHz by GSG probes landed on bare and bumped pads. Combination of two double-delay based de-embeding methods are used to calculate the transmission lines (TLs) and interconnect characteristics. Furthermore, scattering parameter of bare pads and bump pads are accurately extracted from measurement results without lumped element assumption

H ; Bagheri, S ; Khiabani, R. H ; Meghdari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
In this paper a new approach to dynamics optimization of rough terrain rovers is introduced. Since rover wheels traction has a significant role in rover mobility, optimization is based on the minimization of traction at rover wheel-ground interfaces. The method of optimization chosen is Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is a directed random search technique along with the usual optimization based on directional derivatives. GA is a suitable and efficient method of optimization for nonlinear problems. The procedure is applied on a specific rough terrain rover called CEDRA-I Shrimp Rover. Dynamical equations are obtained using Kane's method. Finally, the results are verified by modeling of the...

    Abstract
TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) were synthesized hydrothermally and modified by Cu2O using a sol-gel method to provide photocatalytic activity in visible light. Cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-based films were prepared by adding TiO2, TNTs, and Cu2O-modified TNT (TNT-Cu2O). The TiO2-based nanoparticles (TiO2, TNTs, and TNT-Cu2O) were uniformly distributed in the base polymer to make compatible and flexible films. The incorporation of nanoparticles significantly enhanced the UV-shielding properties of the film while slightly decreasing the transparency. Incorporating nanofillers improved the film's mechanical and water resistance properties depending on the nanoparticle type. The TNT-Cu2O-added CNF film...

    Abstract
A chitosan-based carbon quantum dots (CQDs) with multifunctional properties were synthesized using a hydrothermal process. The CQDs were spherical with an average size of 7.8 ± 2.4 nm. The CQD showed strong antioxidant activity, potent antibacterial activity against E. coli and L. monocytogenes, and antifungal activity against A. niger and P. chrysogenum. In addition, the prepared CQD showed negligible cytotoxicity against L929 cells even at a concentration of 500 μg/mL. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)-based functional films were fabricated by adding various amounts of CQD. The CQDs were evenly dispersed in the polymer matrix to form a highly transparent UV-blocking film. The addition of CQD...

    Abstract
Sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) were fabricated using a facile hydrothermal method and used for the preparation of functional food packaging film and compared the properties with other sulfur-based fillers like elemental sulfur (ES) and sulfur nanoparticles (SNP). The SQDs have an average size of 5.3 nm and were very stable in aqueous suspension. Unlike other sulfur-based fillers, the SQD showed high antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activity, but no cytotoxicity was found for L929 mouse fibroblasts even after long-term exposure of 48 h. When sulfur-based fillers were added to the alginate film, SQD was more evenly dispersed in the polymer matrix than SNP and ES. The addition of SQD to...

Effect of gamma ray on poly(lactic acid)/poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) blends as biodegradable food packaging films

    , Article Radiation Physics and Chemistry ; Vol. 96 , 2014 , pp. 12-18 ; ISSN: 0969806X Razavi, S. M ; Dadbin, S ; Frounchi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(vinyl acetate-. co-vinyl alcohol) [P(VAc-. co-VA)] blends as new transparent film packaging materials were prepared at various blend compositions and different vinyl alcohol contents. The blends and pure PLA were irradiated by gamma rays to investigate the extent of changes in the packaging material during gamma ray sterilization process. The miscibility of the blends was dependent on the blend composition and vinyl alcohol content; gamma irradiation had little effect on the extent of miscibility. The glass transition temperature of pure PLA and PLA/P(VAc-. co-VA) miscible blends reduced after irradiation. On the other hand in PLA/P(VAc-. co-VA) immiscible...

Integrated Decision Making in the Field of Pricing and Production Planning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Saeede (Author) ; Akbari Gokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The integration of pricing and production planning decisions has attracted many researchers and industry professionals, as these decisions directly affect the highest and lowest levels of a company. In this thesis, an integrated production-price problem for two complementary products is studied. Regarding the negative correlation of the two products, different sales strategies, including unbundling, pure bundling and mixed bundling, are used and three distinct models are proposed for each one. In the models, real and important assumptions such as production capacity limitation, shared resources, and the cost of preparation are considered. The goal of solving these models is to determine the...
