Enhanced Performance of Modified Pd/AL2O3 Catalysts by Triphenyl phosphine Ligand in Acetylene Selective Hydrogenation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari Najafi, Niloofar (Author) ; Khorasheh, Farhad (Supervisor) ; Takht Ravanchi, Maryam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ethylene is considered as one of the key materials in the petrochemical industry and has a particular importance. Polymerized ethylene produces polyethylene, which is widely used in plastics and pipe-manufacturing industries. Ethylene is mainly produced by the processes of catalytic cracking or thermal cracking of heavier hydrocarbon compounds. In these processes, acetylene is produced as a by-product, which deactivates the Ziegler-Nata catalysts in the polymerization unit of ethylene. Therefore, there should be some considerations to reduce acetylene to its minimum value -around zero. For this purpose, the fixed bed catalytic reactor is used to hydrogenate acetylene to ethylene. Various...

Moreover, the effect of various parameters on the activity of the undertaken catalysts was studied in order to determine the optimum process conditions. Leaching measurements and the durability of the CaO/talc catalyst under several reaction cycles were evaluated and proved it to be a stable...

    , Article AIChE Annual Meeting, Conference Proceedings ; 2011 ; 9780816910670 (ISBN) Baghalha, M ; Ebrahimpour, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene (EB) to produce styrene (ST) monomer is commercially performed over potassium-promoted iron oxide catalysts. Catalyst deactivation due to coke deposition and loss of potassium is a major operation and economic drawback in this process. To better evaluate the performance change of these catalysts over their life-cycle, dehydrogenation of EB to ST over the fresh and used commercial catalysts was experimentally investigated at temperatures from 590 to 639°C under atmospheric pressure. The fresh and the used catalysts were obtained from a styrene plant. The used catalyst had been continuously operated for two years under severe plant conditions. The catalyst...

Thus, GO was impregnated with active metallic phases through the hydrothermal and modified incipient wetness impregnation techniques. In both procedures, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 weight ratios of Co/Mo with the percentages of the...

    Abstract
An industrial-scale reactor for ethylene production was modeled using the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODHE) in a multi-tubular reactor system, examining a variety of parameters affecting reactor performance. The model showed that a double-bed multi-tubular reactor with intermediate air injection scheme was superior to a single-bed design, due to the increased ethylene selectivity while operating under lower oxygen partial pressures. The optimized reactor length for 100% oxygen conversion was theoretically determined for both reactor designs. The use of a distributed oxygen feed with a limited number of injection points indicated a significant improvement on the reactor performance...

    Abstract
An eco-friendly, simple, and effective protocol is developed for the synthesis of various multisubstituted 2-aminothiophenes. In the presence of a catalytic amount of ZnO (5 mol), ketones or aldehydes, malononitrile and elemental sulfur were converted to the corresponding 2-aminothiophene derivatives in moderate to high yields (27%-70%) under solvent-free conditions at 100 °C. Zinc oxide as an efficient, readily available, and reusable catalyst, showed very good catalytic activity for the synthesis of 2-aminothiophene derivatives. Thus far, little research has been reported on the Gewald reaction under solvent-free conditions; to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that it has...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasemi, Mohammad (Author) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work the transesterification reaction of waste cooking oil in the present of solid catalyst as a type of solid-liquid catalytic reaction, has been studied. For this purpose, two types of alkali solid catalysts were synthesized. CaO-ZrO2 and KOH/γ-Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation and impregnation method, respectively. These catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), BET surface area, and temperature programmed desorption of CO2 (TPD-CO2). The obtained results for the CaO-ZrO2 catalysts indicate that with increasing Ca/Zr atomic ratio, the activity of catalysts increases, but the stability...

    Abstract
Diesel oxidizing catalysts (DOCs) based on precious metals of Platinum and Palladium are among the most important and most widely used catalysts in the exhaust aftertreatment system of diesel cars. DOCs are used to oxidize CO and hydrocarbons to reduce their emissions to the environment. In spite of the excellent performance of DOCs, sulfur exposure can lead to their deactivation. Sulfur is mainly in the form of SO2 at the combustion chamber exit, which can be further oxidezed to SO3 on the DOC. The deactivation impact of SO2 and SO3 on DOCs are different, with SO3 leadig to higher degrees of deactivation. In this study, a kinetic model for SO2 oxidation on a bimetallic Pt-Pd-based catalyst...

In the present work, interactions of the SOX species with diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) are investigated by implementing a kinetic modeling approach. Experimental data obtained from a catalyst of this type, i.e., Pt/γ-Al2O3, was employed and a multi-step microkinetic model was developed in Matlab 2018b® to proxy the poisoning effect of the adsorption of surface sulfur species and their desorption behavior. The microkinetic model was run to describe the individual SO2 and SO3 adsorption-desorption process using the...
