    Abstract
Distribution system reconfiguration is an effective solution to reduce the consequences of a disaster through transferring loads to another feeder via automatic switches. Meanwhile, an optimal sequence of damage components repairments provides the operator with the opportunity to utilize components that play a critical role in restoring loads sooner. Motivated by the rise in penetration of renewable distributed generators in modern distribution systems, this paper aims to develop a robust reconfiguration and crew routing co-optimization method to cope with renewable and demand uncertainties while recovering from a disaster. The method optimizes the grid recovery process for the worst...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Systems ; 2017 ; 08858950 (ISSN) Farzin, H ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper develops a general framework for reliability assessment of multi-microgrid (MMG) distribution systems. It also investigates reliability impacts of coordinated outage man-agement strategies in a MMG distribution network. According to the proposed reliability evaluation framework, which is based on sequential Monte Carlo simulation method, distribution system is divided into smaller sections/microgrids based on protection sys-tem configuration and operating measures are efficiently simulat-ed considering different operation modes. In order to demonstrate the role of outage management strategy in reliability performance of MMG distribution systems, at first, the required features of...

    Abstract
Unpredictable occurrence of natural disasters in modern power systems has significantly increased the attentions to the outage management of multi-microgrid (MMG) systems. In this regard, a multi-objective two-stage outage management scheme is presented in this paper to protect undamaged microgrids (MGs) against load curtailment and minimize the curtailed loads simultaneously. Considering the importance of power system economic, this scheme is designed in a privacy-preserved transactive energy (TE) market and enables all MGs to participate in outage management voluntarily. In detail, a DC optimization is autonomously operated in the first stage in each MG to supply its demand loads. Then,...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a hierarchical outage management scheme to enhance the resilience of a smart distribution system comprised of multi-microgrids against unexpected disaster events. In this regard, after identifying the main features and requirements for a resilient outage management scheme, an appropriate framework is devised and the roles and tasks of different management entities in a multi-microgrids system are introduced. Based on this framework, the microgrids schedule their available resources in the first stage using a novel model predictive control-based algorithm. In the second stage, distribution system operator coordinates the possible power transfers among the microgrids and...

Reliability Studies of Modern Distribution Systems Integrated With Renewable Generation and Parking Lots

    Abstract
This paper investigates the role of parking lots in improving the reliability of renewable-based distribution systems, through provision of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) programs during outage events. In this regard, municipal parking decks are viewed as distributed energy storage systems and the amount of available energy from these units in random contingency events is probabilistically modeled for reliability studies. Appropriate stochastic models are also introduced to capture the volatility and intermittency of renewable sources. Moreover, it is discussed that how the adopted outage management scheme (OMS) in contingency events can affect the reliability level of customers. In response, several...

Based on this framework, the general optimization model that needs to be evaluated in the proposed outage management scheme is formulated. Then, various...

Presentation an Outage Management Method in Transactive Energy Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Riki, Mahshid (Author) ; Abbaspour, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is the presentation of an outage management scheme in a multi-microgrids system with a decentralized structure. The proposed method is designed in a two-step method to prevent damage to all microgrids and network components due to blackouts. In the first stage of this scheme, each microgrid alone provides its required power or curtails load due to the power deficiency. In the second stage, microgrids exchange power in a transactive energy environment, which is one of the new changes in active distribution systems with participation in market and price bidding, and all players of this market earn profit from their exchanges. In this case, the curtailed load will be...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a novel optimization based home load control (HLC) to manage the operation periods of responsive electrical appliances, determine several recommended operation periods for nonresponsive appliances, and schedule the charge/discharge cycling of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) considering various customer preferences. The customer preferences are in the format of payment cost, interruption cost, and different operational constraints. The projected algorithm is online, in which household appliances are initially scheduled based on the payment cost, and when the home load is interrupted, the scheduling will be updated to minimize customer interruption cost. Due to...
