    Abstract
    Design and construction of an optical fiber sensor for liquid level detection are reported. This sensor operates based on light intensity modulation, and such modulation results from alteration of total internal reflection into partial reflection at the interface. The modulated intensity has been measured by using a pair of fibers, one transmitting source light, another acting as receiving fiber, and a glass prism providing the total and partial reflections. During the level measurements, when a liquid in a vessel touches the 45° faces of the 45-90-45° prism, the total internal reflection is disturbed, and the reflected light is modulated.     Abstract
    Design and operation of an optical fiber device for temperature sensing and thermal expansion measurement are reported. The modulated intensity has been measured by using a pair of 450 μm core fiber, one acting as the source and the other one as receiving fiber. In this design, the light intensity modulation is based on the relative motion of the optical fibers and a reflective coated lens. By using displacement calibration data for this sensor, the linear thermal expansion of the aluminum rod is determined.     Operation of an optical system for surface profiling is reported here. Reflection signals for the plane and cylindrical surfaces with different materials are reported. To investigate the precision and sensitivity of the reported system the reflection results of the curved and flat structured surface are compared with that of a structure-free surface.     Abstract
    The deposition of tetrakis (4-sulonatophenyl) porphyrin (TPPS) thin film on optical fibers presents many possibilities for sensing applications. The J-form aggregation with a narrow and sharp spectral feature at about 490 nm and its sensitivity to humidity have been discussed; a fast change of wavelength occurs according with variation in the humidity level. The reproducibility and high sensitivity of TPPS-coated fibers, along with the capabilities of optical fibers, suggest the device as a good candidate for humidity sensing in harsh environments. © 2018, The Author(s)

    Abstract
    In this study the optical beam transfer and imaging in an optical fiber coupling is discussed. In coupling two fibers, some measurements from intensity perspective are performed and intensity profile is investigated. A theoretical model for the power transmission in fiber coupling is developed and theoretical function is compared with the experimental results. The amount of light delivered to the receiving fiber depends on the acceptance angle of the receiving fiber and the core cross sections of both fibers. Intensity profile function obtained theoretically agrees well with the measured results. The intensity variation as a function of the air gap variation is investigated in this article....

    In this article design and operation of a plastic optical fiber (POF) sensor based on the unconventional light leakage from one fiber to another one causing intensity modulation are presented. The dominant loss mechanism was found to be the evanescent loss and based on this phenomenon the optical fiber sensor was designed. The penetration depth of evanescent wave as a function of different refractive index of cladding was calculated.     In our previous work, a distributed moisture sensor based on the induced long-period fiber grating in the presence of moisture is proposed. The proposed structure is analyzed numerically (Opt Laser Technol 117:126–133, 2019). In this article, due to the axial symmetry and periodic structure of the proposed sensor, the Love’s potential and Fourier series are employed to obtain an analytical solution for the refractive index variation along the sensor versus moisture density.     In this paper, the variational method is employed for minimizing the gain ripple of multi-wavelength fiber Raman amplifiers. The variance of gain spectrum of the fiber Raman amplifier is regarded as the cost function, restriction on total pump power and average gain is given as the constraints of the minimization problem. It is shown that the minimization problem with any necessary constraints on the pump powers, average gain and signal to noise ratio, is reduced to a two-point boundary value problem.     Design and operation of an optical fiber sensor based on the light leakage from one fiber to another one causing intensity modulation are reported. Performance of this sensor is tested as a liquid level sensor for different liquids and the experimental results are reported.     Assuming that Pauli channels simulate the effect of optical fibers on polarization entangled photons we theoretically find the threshold distance beyond which such pairs loose their entanglement.     Abstract
    Scattering of a Gaussian beam by a spherical dielectric object is studied using the vectorial Gaussian beam tracing method. Expansion to a few Gaussian beams with the smaller waists has been used to extend the method to a more generalized one. This method can be applied to a large variety of different shape objects and incident beam profiles.     Design and operation of a double-fiber sensor for displacement measurements are reported in this study. In this arrangement, one fiber transmits the laser light to the target and the second one receives the light reflected off the target and transmits to a photodetector. Utilizing inexpensive plastic optical fibers offers advantages such as higher reflexability and more robustness at a reasonable cost, which are required for some applications. We perceive that both performance and availability are integral components of survivability.
