A Brief Investigation on the Effects of Metallic and Composite Patches on the Behavior of Aged Parts Using Numerical Methods (FEM) and Lamb Waves Propagation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mollaei, Fouad (Author) ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purpose of this text is to develop a method for health monitoring of patch-repaired structures. The method consists of usage of piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) in the mean of stress waves in plate-like structures and processing the obtained results gathered from these sensors using finite element method. During this analysis, effect of different parameters has been investigated by sensitivity analysis methods. The main kind of stress waves that used are lamb wave of different kind. The behavior of main structure due to propagation of symmetric and anti-symmetric modes of lamb wave was investigated. Beginning with finding the results of un-damaged and un-repaired...

Laser-Based Inspection of Internal Geometry of Industrial Pipes in Pigging Procedure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hadavand, Majid (Author) ; Khodaygan, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Along with improvement of technology and need for access to energy resources, existence of pipelines such as gas, oil and water pipes is vital for our lives. These pipes will be eroded and damaged over time. With the prediction of the defects and tracking of pipeline paths, the probability of sudden damages is greatly reduced. In this research, at first various non-destructive methods of monitoring the pipelines are investigated and it is shown that the laser method is the most comprehensive and non-destructive inspection method and then the background of the chosen method is examined. Also, the hardware aspect of the system and the proper layout of the laser sensors are determined on the...

Leakage Detection in Water Pipes using a Smart Robotic Device

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kazemi, Omid (Author) ; Sayyaadi, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Leakages in the transmission pipes include a large proportion of water loss. Scarcity of fresh water in one hand and high costs to compensate for drop in pressure and flow lines, on the other hand, detection and location of leaks have been important. This phenomenon can also cause a lot of damage to the urban contextures. This thesis considers the leakage in tubing buried in the soil by means of a floating robot. Since the rate of leakage, specifies the requirement to perform maintenances, In addition to finding the leakage, an overall estimate of the amount of leakage is desired.Since non-destructive leak detection is desired, the mechanical-magnetic sensor is designed. First, for the...

Flight Performance and Maneuverability Enhancement of a Twin Engine Fighter Aircraft Using Integrated Thrust-Vector and Aerodynamic controls

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mazinani, Morteza (Author) ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, maneuverability enhancement of a given twin engine fighter aircraft with integrated thrust-vector and conventional aerodynamic control surfaces havebeen studied. For this purpose a nonlinear 6DOF simulation program base on a near exact mathematical model has been prepared for the aircraft, and then a thrust vectoring system for producing moments about three body axes, like that used in F/A-18, has been added to the simulation. The control method that is employed to control the aircraft in simulation environment is based on Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion (NDI). Finally the Velocity Vector Roll (VVR) maneuver has been considered as an example tostudymaneuverability enhacement. It...
