Optimizing the economic production quantity model with discrete delivery orders

    , Article Economic Computation and Economic Cybernetics Studies and Research ; Volume 44, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 49-62 ; 0424267X (ISSN) Pasandideh, S. H. R ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Similar to other existing classical production and inventory control models, the economic production quantity (EPQ) model is derived based upon some assumptions that cause its limited real-world applications. One of the assumptions in this model is that the orders are delivered in a continuous and constant rate. In order to make the EPQ model more applicable to real-world production and inventory control environments, in this research, an EPQ model is considered in which the orders are delivered discretely in the form of multiple pallets. Under this condition, the EPQ costs are derived and a new model is developed to find the optimum values of both the economic order quantity and the reorder...

Efficient verification of parallel matrix multiplication in public cloud: the MapReduce case

    , Article Journal of Big Data ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2020 Bagheri, R ; Amini, M ; Dolatnezhad Samarin, S ; Sharif University of Technology
Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH  2020
    Abstract
With the advent of cloud-based parallel processing techniques, services such as MapReduce have been considered by many businesses and researchers for different applications of big data computation including matrix multiplication, which has drawn much attention in recent years. However, securing the computation result integrity in such systems is an important challenge, since public clouds can be vulnerable against the misbehavior of their owners (especially for economic purposes) and external attackers. In this paper, we propose an efficient approach using Merkle tree structure to verify the computation results of matrix multiplication in MapReduce systems while enduring an acceptable...

Statistical analysis of coherent ultrashort light pulse CDMA with multiple optical amplifiers using additive noise model

    , Article IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology ; Vol. 23, No. 5, PP. 1842-1851, May 2005 Jamshidi, K ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University Of Technology
    Abstract
This paper describes a study of the performance of various configurations for placing multiple optical amplifiers in a typical coherent ultrashort light pulse code-division multiple access (CULP-CDMA) communication system using the additive noise model. For this study, a comprehensive performance analysis was developed that takes into account multiple-access noise, noise due to optical amplifiers, and thermal noise using the saddle-point approximation technique. Prior to obtaining the overall system performance, the input/output statistical models for different elements of the system such as encoders/decoders, star coupler, and optical amplifiers were obtained. Performance comparisons...

Vector space generated by the multiplicative commutators of a division ring

    , Article Journal of Algebra and its Applications ; Volume 12, Issue 8 , December , 2013 ; 02194988 (ISSN) Aghabali, M ; Akbari, S ; Ariannejad, M ; Madadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Let D be a division ring with center F. An element of the form xyx -1y-1 ∈ D is called a multiplicative commutator. Let T(D) be the vector space over F generated by all multiplicative commutators in D. In this paper it is shown that if D is algebraic over F and Char(D) = 0, then D = T(D). We conjecture that it is true in general. Among other results it is shown that in characteristic zero if T(D) is algebraic over F, then D is algebraic over F

Probability of missed detection as a criterion for receiver placement in MIMO PCL

    , Article IEEE National Radar Conference - Proceedings, 7 May 2012 through 11 May 2012, Atlanta, GA ; 2012 , Pages 0924-0927 ; 10975659 (ISSN) ; 9781467306584 (ISBN) Majd, M. N ; Chitgarha, M. M ; Radmard, M ; Nayebi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar

Ambiguity function of MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

    , Article Proceedings International Radar Symposium ; 16 -18 June , 2014 ; ISSN: 21555753 Radmard, M ; Chitgarha, M. M ; Nazari Majd, M ; Nayebi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
There has been much interest, recently, towards exploiting the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique in radar. It is shown that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides can improve the performance of the system. However, in order to analyze the system's performance, its ambiguity function, i.e. the ambiguity function of a MIMO radar, is needed to be defined. In this paper, beginning from the information theoretic definitions, we derive such function, specifically for a MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

    Deterministic multiple access wiretap channel

    , Article Proceedings 2010 IEEE International Conference on Information Theory and Information Security, ICITIS 2010, 17 December 2010 through 19 December 2010, Beijing ; 2010 , Pages 998-1001 ; 9781424469406 (ISBN) Jahandideh, V ; Salimi, S ; Salmasizadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Two-user Multiple Access Channel with a Wire- Tapper (MAC-WT) is considered. A general outer bound for the secrecy capacity region is given. Also, we have defined the Deterministic MAC-WT, where the channel input of each user is a deterministic function of the channel output and the channel input of the other user. For this network single-letter inner and outer bounds for the secrecy capacity region are given. Furthermore, it is shown that in the Deterministic MAC-WT, if the wiretapper channel is a degraded version of the main channel, inner and outer bounds meet and the secrecy capacity region is characterized

Sensitivity analysis of coherent ultrashort light pulse CDMA communication system with respect to dispersion

    , Article Optical Transmission, Switching, and Subsystems V, Wuhan, 2 November 2007 through 5 November 2007 ; Volume 6783 , 2007 ; 0277786X (ISSN); 9780819469465 (ISBN) Ataie, V ; Jamshidi, K ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the sensitivity degradation of a system due to various orders of chromatic dispersion. To do this, the power penalty of the uncoded and encoded pulse of a coherent ultrashort light pulse Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communication system due to various orders of chromatic dispersions are analyzed. Analysis of uncoded pulse shows that the power penalty is unacceptably high when second order dispersion is not compensated. However we can obtain acceptable level of power penalties while compensating second and third order dispersion. Also, due to the high order of dispersion, the power of encoded pulse decreases as it propagates through the fiber which leads to a...

On the performance of spectrally-encoded spread-time ultrawideband CDMA communication systems [electronic resource]

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications ; 2008 Vol. 7, No. 11 Farhang, M ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University Of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper we study the performance of spectrally-encoded spread-time (SE/ST) technique when applied to ultrawideband (UWB) signals in the context of wireless code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communication. In this technique UWB pulses are spectrally encoded with pseudorandom codes that are assigned uniquely to each user. We shall show that the SE/ST ultrawideband system provides an appropriate multi-user capacity in realistic UWB channels, along with the ability of narrowband interference (NBI) suppression. To this end, after obtaining a suitable statistical model for spectrally encoded spread-time signals, we investigate the performance of the system in the presence of...

Efficient modulation technique for optical code division multiple access networks: Differential pulse position modulation

    , Article IET Optoelectronics ; Vol. 8, issue. 5 , 2014 , p. 181-190 Khazraei, S ; Shoaie, M. A ; Pakravan, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, the authors study a fibre-optic local area network deploying optical code division multiple access technique with differential M-ary pulse position modulation (DPPM). The authors present the performance analysis of DPPM signalling using a double optical hardlimiter receiver structure considering the impairment caused by interference of other users. The analysis assumes a set of bit asynchronous transmitters employing generalised optical orthogonal codes for their DPPM signalling (GOOC-DPPM). Using mathematical analysis and simulations, the authors have demonstrated that GOOCDPPM improves both frame error probability and the maximum achievable network throughput compared with...

Improving the energy/power consumption of parallel decimal multipliers

    , Article Indian Journal of Science and Technology ; Vol. 7, issue. 3 , 2014 , p. 276-281 Malekpour, A ; Ejlali, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Decimal arithmetic has gained intensive attention in the last decade. Most commercial, financial, scientific, and internet-based applications need their data to be precise, while binary number system loses preciseness in some cases. The latency and area are two major factors in existing research works on decimal multiplication. However, energy/power consumption is another important factor in today's digital systems. Hence, in this paper we proposed a new low power decimal adder based on prediction technique for decreasing the energy/power consumption of parallel decimal multiplication and show its impacts on one of the well-known parallel decimal multipliers architecture. Our observations...

Power allocation scheme in time division multiple access distributed multiple-input multiple-output interference channels

    , Article IET Communications ; Volume 7, Issue 5 , 2013 , Pages 391-396 ; 17518628 (ISSN) Shariatpanahi, S. P ; Khalaj, B. H ; Shah Mansouri, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this study, the authors propose a novel power allocation scheme in time division multiple access (TDMA)-based distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. By modelling the problem with a TDMA MIMO interference channel, the authors have derived closed-form expressions for power and time slot assigned to each MIMO transmission. Although our scheme is sub-optimal, with the aid of Jensen's inequality, it is shown to be superior to solutions based on channel inversion. In addition, the proposed scheme is compared with the optimal solution, and also with the scheme proposed by Dohler. By applying our proposed power allocation to the hierarchical cooperation strategy, the authors...

Data association in multi-input single-output passive coherent location schemes

    , Article IET Radar, Sonar and Navigation ; Volume 6, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 149-156 ; 17518784 (ISSN) Radmard, M ; Karbasi, S. M ; Khalaj, B. H ; Nayebi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Efficient combination of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) and passive coherent location (PCL) ideas is expected to improve performance of localisation schemes. While using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides provides spatial diversity, it is possible to obtain similar performance by using multiple transmitters, already transmitting standard signals (such as digital TV) in the environment (also known as illuminators of opportunity). However, in this case, it is not always possible to ensure that signals of different transmitters are orthogonal to each other. In such cases, resolving signals of multiple transmitters reflected from multiple objects is not a trivial problem. One...

Towards a holistic view of humanities

    , Article International Journal of the Humanities ; Volume 9, Issue 5 , 2011 , Pages 247-256 ; 14479508 (ISSN) Khosravizadeh, P ; Gohari, O ; Gohari, N ; Ghaziani, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The paper investigates the deep structure of the human mind by analyzing multiple intelligences theory. Regarding serious critiques proposed by a number of cognitive neuroscientists, psychologists, philosophers, and educational theorists (i.e. Sternberg 1983, 1991; Eysenck 1994; Scarr 1985; Klein 1998; Demetriou and Kazi 2006; Demetriou, Mouyi, and Spanoudis 2010, among others), it seems that the different types of intelligence introduced by Gardner (1983) have a shared feature. The authors believe that this particular shared feature can be counted as the key point of the underlying system of human knowledge. Since human cognition may be analyzed by means of universal structures of the mind,...

    Abstract
Measurements of two-particle angular correlations between an identified strange hadron (KS0 or Λ/Λ-) and a charged particle, emitted in pPb collisions, are presented over a wide range in pseudorapidity and full azimuth. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 35 nb-1, were collected at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy (sNN) of 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The results are compared to semi-peripheral PbPb collision data at sNN=2.76 TeV, covering similar charged-particle multiplicities in the events. The observed azimuthal correlations at large relative pseudorapidity are used to extract the second-order (v2) and third-order (v3) anisotropy...

Throughput analysis of multiple-access-relay channel based on rateless coding

    , Article 2010 5th International Symposium on Telecommunications, IST 2010, 4 December 2010 through 6 December 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 292-296 ; 9781424481835 (ISBN) Mansourifard, P ; Nasiri Kenari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we consider a new scheme based on jointly network and rateless coding for a multiple-access relay channel. In the scheme, whenever the relay can decode multiple messages of the users, it jointly encodes them using a larger rateless code. This scheme is compared with direct transmission and the conventional relaying scheme in which the relay helps each user independently at orthogonal channels. The comparison is made by evaluating the throughput of different schemes. The analytical and the simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the other ones at the cases considered

MIMO radar signal design to improve the MIMO ambiguity function via maximizing its peak

    , Article Signal Processing ; Volume 118 , 2016 , Pages 139-152 ; 01651684 (ISSN) Chitgarha, M. M ; Radmard, M ; Nazari Majd, M ; Karbasi, S. M ; Nayebi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
One of the important obstacles in MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radars is the issue of designing proper transmit signals. Indeed, the capability of signal design is a significant advantage in MIMO radars, through which, the system can achieve much better performance. Many different aspects of this performance improvement have been considered yet, and the transmit signals have been designed to attain such goal, e.g., getting higher SNR or better detector's performance at the receiver. However, an important tool for evaluating the radar's performance is its ambiguity function. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmit signal design, in order to optimize the ambiguity function...

A high-throughput low-complexity VLSI architecture for ZF precoding in massive MIMO

, Article IEEE International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks, CAMAD, 19 June 2017 through 21 June 2017 ; Volume 2017-June , 2017 ; 23784873 (ISSN) ; 9781509063024 (ISBN) Mirfarshbafan, S. Abstract
In this work we present a high-throughput, low-complexity design for linear precoding in massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems. Large number of Base Station (BS) antennas in massive MIMO at one hand has caused the performance of linear precoders to be near-optimal and at the other hand has increased their complexity due to the need for the inversion of matrices with large dimensions. To avoid this complexity, approximate inversion methods based on Neumann Series have been proposed. However, in this work, we propose an architecture for Zero Forcing (ZF) precoder based on the Neumann Series approximate inversion that further reduces the complexity by replacing matrix-matrix...

    Abstract
The method of multiple scales is one of the common perturbation techniques for exploring nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Sitnikov has presented a mathematics model of a negligible mass body oscillation perpendicular to a plane in which two heavy bodies with equal mass orbit on itself Keplerian ellipse. This problem is well known as the Sitnikov problem. In this investigation, the method of multiple scales is applied to the Sitnikov problem and it presented an analytical response that is consistent with numerical solution. At first step, the circular form of the Sitnikov equation is approximated by MMS and then the obtained dynamic model from first step is employed to investigate...

Off-grid localization in mimo radars using sparsity

    Abstract
In this letter, we propose a new accurate approach for target localization in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars, which exploits the sparse spatial distribution of targets to reduce the sampling rate. We express the received signal of a MIMO radar in terms of the deviations of target parameters from the grid points in the form of a block sparse signal using the expansion around all the neighbor points. Applying a block sparse recovery method, we can estimate both the grid-point locations of targets and these deviations. The proposed approach can yield more accurate localization with higher detection probability compared with its counterparts. Moreover, the proposed approach can...
