A novel solution for root-MUSIC with reduced complexity

    , Article 6th Iranian Conference on Radar and Surveillance Systems, ICRSS 2019, 4 December 2019 through 6 December 2019 ; 2019 ; 9781728129372 (ISBN) Eskandari, M ; Karbasi, S. M ; Bastani, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The root-MUSIC algorithm is a popular method to estimate Angle of Arrival (AoA) as an extension of multiple signal classification (MUSIC). In this paper, we have proposed a novel solution for the root-MUSIC algorithm. The new method exhibits a much lower computational complexity, while maintaining the same theoretical performance as the root-MUSIC. © 2019 IEEE

A novel approach to radio direction finding and detecting the number of sources simultaneously: DMSAE algorithm

    , Article Conference Proceedings- 34th European Microwave Conference, London, 12 October 2004 through 14 October 2004 ; Volume 2 , 2004 , Pages 745-748 ; 1580539920 (ISBN) Movahhedi, M ; Tadaion, A. A ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
In smart antenna systems, The localization and direction of desired source(s) must be known. In this paper, we introduce a method called "DMSAE" (Direction finding of Multiple Sources by Alternating Eliminations) to find the radio directions of signals impinging on an arbitrary antenna array and the number of the signals. This method which is based on the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) algorithm, can not only detect the direction and the number of sources, simultaneously, but also has better resolution ability compared to the other conventional direction finding algorithms. This method can also detect very weak sources when other powerful sources exist in the environment. In...

Online Compensation of Unknown Mutual Coupling Effect in 2-Dimensional Arrival Angle Estimation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahrololoom, Ebrahim (Author) ; Nayebi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the recent decades, the estimation of direction of arrival has been an active area and some high resolution direction finding methods like MUSIC and ESPIRIT have been developed. These methods suffer from factors like mutual coupling. Direction of arrival estimation in presence of mutual coupling is a widely studied problem. In order to resolve this problem, many array calibration algorithms have been developed. However it may be impossible or difficult to set some calibration source in some situation. In this work we show that the effect of mutual coupling can be dynamically compensated by the inherent mechanism. First we show that how mutual coupling can degrades the performance of...

Evaluation of Phase Comparison DOA Estimation Methods in Multipath Environments for Millimeter Waves

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Parisa (Author) ; Farzaneh, Forouhar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main objective of this project is to discuss a DOA estimation system performance in a multipath environment. For this goal, first the basics of the DOA Estimation systems are discussed. Evaluation of different types of algorithms and choosing an appropriate one is an important step in this regard. Moreover the comparison of different array structures is necessary to choose the appropriate one. The major part of the project has been dedicated to discussion of multipath phenomenon as a major source of error in DOA estimation and studying the multipath mitigation algorithms to eliminate the aforementioned error. A model based on the concept of Bistatic Radar Cross Section is proposed to...

Radar Directional Finding by Interferometric Method in 2-18 GHzBW

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pournadim, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Farzane, Frohar (Supervisor) ; Pezeshk, Amir Mansor (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the important jobs of ESM and Elint receiver is to find the direction of arrival of the targets. Also DOA estimation has applications in guiding missiles and jammers location, position finding using of multiple DF systems which are placed in different locations is the most important use of this type of system.
A DF system has multiple parts: receiver, algorithm and arrays of antennas.
Amplitude comparison algorithms are more simple but on the other hand phase comparison algorithms prepare more accurate estimation. In this thesis these algorithms are simulated and to each other. And it will be concluded that, in the application being test, the "MUSIC" algorithm is the best....

Direction finding and beamforming using cylindrical array of dipole antennas in the presence of cylindrical scatterer/reflector including the mutual coupling effect

    , Article IET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation ; Volume 15, Issue 5 , 2021 , Pages 521-528 ; 17518725 (ISSN) Poormohammad, S ; Farzaneh, F ; Banai, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Three-dimensional dipole arrays are normally used at the proximity of a reflective structure. Filamentary short-circuited dipoles are proposed to model the effect of the reflector structure. The computational burden is significantly reduced by using mutual impedance matrices. An analytical method of modelling the effect of the cylindrical reflector in a three-dimensional cylindrical geometry of dipole antenna arrays is introduced both for direction finding and beamforming applications in the presence of mutual coupling. The results of the implementation of the MUSIC (multiple signal classification) direction-finding algorithm show that the proposed model for accounting the cylindrical...
