    Abstract
This survey investigated the cultural identity of Iranian English language teachers. Accordingly, a cultural identity model was proposed a priori, based on which a questionnaire was developed and piloted on 50 Iranian English language teachers (α = 0.87). The developed questionnaire was then administered to 636 male and female Iranian English language teachers. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model was fit and eight components namely 1) religious beliefs, 2) history, 3) customs, 4) manners and behaviors, 5) Persian language, 6) literature and art, 7) parents’ influence and 8) family relations were confirmed to form the core of Iranian cultural identity. The...

Evaluation of variable permeability model in simulation of seismic behavior of uniform level and gently sloping sand layers

    , Article Earth Sciences Research Journal ; Volume 24, Issue 3 , 2020 , Pages 328-336 Ghassemi, A ; Seyfi, S ; Shahir, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Universidad Nacional de Colombia  2020
    Abstract
In this study, a fully coupled dynamic finite element model was employed for numerical simulation of the response of level to gently sloping saturated sand layers subjected to cyclic loading. This model utilized a critical state two-surface-plasticity constitutive model to simulate the cyclic behavior of sandy soil. Moreover, a recently proposed variable permeability function was implemented in the numerical model to reflect the effects of soil permeability variations during the liquefaction phenomenon. The numerical model was validated by simulating a number of well-documented geotechnical centrifuge tests with different relative density of sand, base acceleration time history, and surface...

Analytical modeling of oil production from a matrix block by free fall gravity drainage mechanism

    , Article Energy Exploration and Exploitation ; Volume 31, Issue 6 , October , 2013 , Pages 821-832 ; 01445987 (ISSN) Ghorbanizadeh, S ; Ardakany, M ; Ghazanfari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Free fall gravity drainage is the most effective mechanism in gas invaded zone of fractured reservoirs. Although several analytical models have been proposed to characterize this mechanism, most of them suffer from inadequate reality, such as neglecting capillary pressure. In this study, a new analytical model was proposed to predict the oil recovery versus time for a homogeneous matrix block under a free fall gravity drainage mechanism. Considering the effect of viscous, gravity as well as capillary forces, the model was developed. This model is applicable to different conditions of gravity and capillary force, as well as when both forces are active. Along with core scale experimental data...

Utilization of percolation approach to evaluate reservoir connectivity and effective permeability: A case study on North Pars gas field

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Vol. 18, issue. 6 , December , 2011 , p. 1391-1396 ; ISSN: 10263098 Sadeghnejad, S ; Masihi, M ; Pishvaie, M ; Shojaei, A ; King, P. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Reservoir characterization, especially during early stages of reservoir life, is very uncertain, due to the scarcity of data. Reservoir connectivity and permeability evaluation is of great importance in reservoir characterization. The conventional approach to addressing this is computationally very expensive and time consuming. Therefore, there is a great incentive to produce much simpler alternative methods. In this paper, we use a statistical approach called the percolation theory, which considers a hypothesis wherein the reservoir can be split into either permeable (i.e. sand/fracture) or impermeable flow units (i.e. shale/matrix), and assumes that the connectivity of permeability...

Assessing alternative options for allocating oil revenue in Iran

    , Article Energy Policy ; Volume 63 , 2013 , Pages 1207-1216 ; 03014215 (ISSN) Barkhordar, Z. A ; Saboohi, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
The present paper focuses on medium-term effects of alternative windfall management strategies for a resource abundant country where the resource revenues are expected to last over a prolonged period. In particular, the trade-off between spending and saving is analyzed within the framework of a recursive dynamic computable general equilibrium model. The model is further validated against historical data available for 2001-2010. The total factor productivity is calculated endogenously in the model based on a function that reflects the changes in factor productivity. The results suggest that saving oil revenues, whether in an oil fund or through physical investment in domestic sectors, leads...

    Test based Software Repair Recommendation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rasekhi, Mahnaz (Author) ; Mirian Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Debugging programs is a time-consuming and error-prone activity. So far, much research has tried to repair the programs automatically. Many of them try to change the location of the fault for a faulty program that fails at least one of its test cases so that all cases in the test suite pass. However, in real projects, the test suite is usually not enough, and the methods that aim to pass the test suite, often lead to the production of incorrect repairs, which is known as overfitting or weak test suite. In this regard, attention to methods based on program specification and the use of static code analysis have shown promising results. In this thesis, a method is presented that recommends...

    , Article Transport in Porous Media ; Vol. 92, issue. 2 , March , 2012 , p. 357-372 ; ISSN: 1693913 Sadeghnejad, S ; Masihi, M ; Shojaei, A ; Pishvaie, M ; King, P. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The connectivity of high conductivity pathways in geological formations depend on the spatial distribution of geological heterogeneities that may appear on various length scales. Appropriate modeling of this is crucial within in hydrology and petroleum systems. The approach taken in this study is to use percolation theory to quantify the connectivity, hydraulic conductivity, and breakthrough time behavior between an injector and a producer within such systems. In particular, a three-dimensional overlapping sandbody model is considered which assumes that the geological formation can be split into either conductive flow units (i. e., good sands) or non-conductive units (i. e., poor sands). The...

    Abstract
Due to their agile manoeuvrability and simplicity of construction, quadrotor are employed in a variety of applications. Most of their expenses are due to complex control systems, since, to reduce these expenses, low cost control methods which are based on linear models should be used to achieve an autonomous flight. First, the process of accurate dynamic modeling of a sample quad rotor which is simulated by MATLAB SIMULINK is presented. Then, a frequency sweep input stimulates the virtual model in order to identify a linear model based on frequency response analysis. Consequently, the desired linear model is obtained in both hover and yaw mode of motion. However, pitch and roll mode were too...

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 5 B , 2010 , Pages 327-336 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Sadooghi, M. S ; Seifi, R ; Saadat Foumani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
This paper presents a novel model to simulate the flow-current characteristic curve of an electro-hydraulic servo valve in steady state condition. This characteristic curve has three major zones: dead zone, linear zone and saturation zone. By using the presented approach, we can simulate the behavior of all types of valves including under lapped, critical center (zero lapped) and over lapped valves. A hydraulic tester has been designed and constructed for validation of the results. It can test the performance of flow-current and some other properties of the valve. Comparison of experimental and simulated curves describes that the model has an acceptable accuracy in determining the four...

An ellipsoidal model for studying response of head impacts

    , Article Acta of Bioengineering and Biomechanics ; Volume 12, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 47-53 ; 1509409X (ISSN) Heydari, M ; Jani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The objective of this study was to propose a new analytical model for studying response of head impacts. Head is modeled by fluidfilled ellipsoidal shell of inconstant thickness impacted by a solid elastic sphere. Modeling the head as an ellipsoid is more realistic than modeling it as a sphere, the previous model existing in the literature [3]-[8]. In this model, the effect of Hertzian contact stiffness and local shell stiffness are combined to derive explicit equations for impact duration, the peak force transmitted to head, and the head injury criterion. One of the advantages of the model presented is sensitivity to the site of impact. A comparison between the present analytical results...

    Abstract
In this paper, a computational technique is presented based on a concrete plastic-damage model to investigate the effect of FRP strengthening of reinforced concrete arches. A plastic-damage model was utilized to capture the behavior of concrete. The interface between the FRP and concrete was modeled using a cohesive fracture model. In order to validate the accuracy of the damage-plastic model, a single element was employed under monotonic tension, monotonic compression, and cyclic tension loads. An excellent agreement was observed between the predefined strain-stress curve and that obtained by the numerical model. Furthermore, the accuracy of the cohesive fracture model was investigated by...

    Abstract
A large number of offshore platforms of various types have been installed in deep or shallow waters throughout the world. These structures are mainly made of tubular members which are interconnected by using tubular joints. In tubular frames, joints may exhibit considerable flexibility in both elastic and plastic range of response. The resulting flexibility may have marked effects on the overall behavior of offshore platforms. This paper investigates the effects of joint flexibility on local and global behavior of tubular framed structures in linear range of response. A new joint flexibility element is developed on the basis of flexibility matrix and implemented in a finite-element program to...

    Abstract
This fact is well known that during any scenario of production, asphaltene deposition in porous media has a substantial effect on oil flow. But a clear understanding of asphaltene deposition mechanisms can help to minimize asphaltenic problem in oil-bearing formations. In this study, the experimental results of three dynamic CO 2 miscible injection tests were investigated. Regarding the effects of adsorption, mechanical entrapment, and sweeping mechanisms on permeability behavior, a mathematical mass and permeability variation model were developed. According to the experimental results asphaltene deposition causes a 70% loss of sand stone initial permeability while the loss is significantly...

A systematic method for the complex walls no-slip boundary condition modeling in dissipative particle dynamics

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , December , 2011 , Pages 1253-1260 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Mehboudi, A ; Saidi, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The dissipative particle dynamics method is an efficient method for studying the hydrodynamics of complex fluids. One of the most challenging aspects of this method appears when the solid walls exist. The solid walls disturb the homogeneity of the fluid near the wall and cause some spurious fluctuations. Thus, in recent years a large amount of effort has been devoted to solve this shortcoming. Fortunately the mentioned problem has almost been solved for the simple walls such as flat walls, circular cylinders, spheres, etc. However no systematic model has addressed the complex walls. It should be noted that almost all of the walls we deal with in practical problems such as MEMS devices,...
