    , Article Journal of Materials Processing Technology ; Volume 210, Issue 12 , September , 2010 , Pages 1632-1635 ; 09240136 (ISSN) Amin Ahmadi, B ; Aashuri, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Effects of cooling slope angle and the temperature of molten metal on the globular structure of M2 high speed steel after holding at the semisolid state have been investigated. The globular structure was achieved by pouring the molten metal at 1595 °C on the ceramic cooling slope with the length of 200 mm and the angle of 25°. The globular structure of M2 high speed steel in the form of rolled-annealed and as cast condition after holding at semisolid state has been achieved. The size of globular grains of cooling slope sample was smaller than that of the rolled-annealed and as cast samples. Solid particles of rolled-annealed sample after holding at semisolid state had better roundness...

Interaction between TBP and D2EHPA during Zn, Cd, Mn, Cu, Co and Ni solvent extraction: A thermodynamic and empirical approach

    , Article Hydrometallurgy ; Volume 98, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 143-147 ; 0304386X (ISSN) Haghshenas Fatmehsari, D ; Darvishi, D ; Etemadi, S ; Eivazi Hollagh, A. R ; Keshavarz Alamdari, E ; Salardini, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the synergistic effect of TBP on the system D2EHPA/kerosense/M2+ with respect to the extraction of some transitional metals. Although the presence of M2EHPA as an impurity in D2EHPA shifts the extraction curves to lower pH, empirical results show that the extraction curves shift to the right due to the addition of TBP and the counterbalance effect of M2EHPA. The results indicate that the equivalent concentration of D2EHPA decreases as a function of concentration of TBP because of the formation of hydrogen bonds between TBP and D2EHPA. Based on this finding, the D2EHPA equivalent concentration was determined by using a modifying factor for TBP...

Optimum temperature for recovery and recrystallization of 52Ni48Ti shape memory alloy

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 28, Issue 6 , 2007 , Pages 1945-1948 ; 02613069 (ISSN) Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Mirabolghasemi, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2007
    Abstract
Results of recent studies on the effect of heat treatment after cold rolling on mechanical properties and transformation temperatures of the cast 52Ni48Ti alloys are described. It is seen that stress-induced martensite is formed when both the as-rolled and the low-temperature (≤400 °C) heat-treated samples are strained. Martensite reorientation due to the stress action occurs in samples heat treated at 500 °C and higher. Optimum recovery occurs below 600 °C resulting in hardness reduction. Recrystallization starts at 600 °C resulting in parent phase yield stress enhancement. Yield stress starts to decrease when grain growth and order-disorder transformation both occur above 700 °C. © 2006...

Modelling dynamic softening processes during hot working

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 404, Issue 1-2 , 2005 , Pages 130-137 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Serajzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
This paper models the kinetics of dynamic recovery and recrystallization under hot working conditions. For doing so, the first-order kinetics equation is coupled with a thermo-viscoplastic finite element analysis to determine the kinetics of dynamic softening processes at different points of deforming metal. The proposed model can consider the effects of macro parameters, such as temperature and strain rate variations as well as the influences of microparameters as initial grain size on the rate of dynamic softening processes. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Abstract
This study was designed to compare one-step, two-step and spent medium bioleaching of spent catalyst by adapted Aspergillus niger in batch cultures. Aspergillus niger, which was adapted to heavy metal ions, Ni, Mo, Fe, and W, was grown in medium containing up to 5% (w/v) of spent catalyst. The main lixiviant in bioleaching was gluconic acid, which was produced at all pulp densities in the one-step bioleaching process. Gluconic acid was also produced in the two-step bioleaching process when the spent catalyst was present at pulp densities greater than 1% (w/v). In the spent medium leaching, however, the primary agent was citric acid. The pulp density of the spent catalyst was varied, and this...

    Abstract
Development of a model for optimal power generation from the thermal oxidation of a low concentration coal bed mine has been considered as the main objective of this investigation. The model has been applied to identify the optimal thermodynamic characteristics of the power generation system through using a mixture with 1.6% methane concentration in a recuperative lean-burn gas turbine and coupling a gas engine to the system for more power generation from the remaining coal bed methane. The implementation of the model based on the real site condition would lead to the generation of 6.97 MW electricity in Tabas coal mine of Iran. © 2016 Taylor & Francis

    Abstract
The texture development during friction stir processing (FSP) of 1050 aluminum severely deformed at the strain magnitude of 2.32 was comprehensively discussed. It was observed that the component B¯ of the ideal shear texture along with the cube texture was developed in the severely deformed base metal. The effects of base metal texture on the texture development of stir zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone, and heat-affected zone during FSP were examined. Also, the developed texture components in the vicinity of the FSP tool and the stir zone were correlated to the deformation induced by the rotating tool which consisted of pin and shoulder. The observed texture components in the...

A hybrid model on severe plastic deformation of copper

    , Article Computational Materials Science ; Volume 44, Issue 4 , 2009 , Pages 1107-1115 ; 09270256 (ISSN) Hosseini, E ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A hybrid model based on the flow function and dislocation cell structure model by considering the Taylor assumption is utilized to model the dislocation structure evolution, cell size and mechanical properties of OFHC in severe plastic deformation. Here, the ECAP is chosen as a process of severe plastic deformation. In this study, the model is modified by taking the value of cell size coefficient as a function of strain and considering two different values of dynamic recovery coefficients of cell walls and cell interiors. These modifications lead to achieve the more accurate modeling results. From the flow function the strain rate distribution are achieved and then using the model the...

    Abstract
An attempt was made to produce an iron bearing and a titanium bearing product, using solid state reduction of Fanouj mine titanomagnetite concentrate. For this purpose, the concentrate was mixed with pulverised coal and sodium carbonate and was reduced in a muffle furnace. The product was then subjected to magnetic separation. In this work, the effect of temperature, time, added coal and additive amount on reduction was studied. The Separation Efficiency (SE) index was used for optimisation of the process. Using SE is more appropriate than degree of metallization, which is usually used, for optimising reduction processes. The results show that the optimal conditions are 1325°C, 2.5 h, 25...

Kinetics of silver dissolution in nitric acid from Ag-Au0.04-Cu0.10 and Ag-Cu0.23 scraps

    , Article Journal of Materials Science and Technology ; Volume 22, Issue 5 , 2006 , Pages 696-700 ; 10050302 (ISSN) Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Ahmadi, E ; Mozammel, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
Kinetics of dissolution of silver present in precious metal scraps in HNO3 was studied in temperature range of 26-85°C. Dissolution rate of silver was much faster than that of copper at all temperatures. Effects of particle size, stirring speed, acid concentration and temperature on the rate of dissolving of silver were evaluated. Dissolution rate decreases with particle size and increases with temperature. Dissolving was accelerated with acid concentrations less than 10 mol/L, Concentrations greater than 10 mol/L resulted in slowing down of the dissolution rate. Shrinking core model with internal diffusion equation t/τ = 1 - 3 (1-x)2/3 + 2 (1-x) could be used to explain the mechanism of the...

    Abstract
A two-dimensional finite element analysis is coupled with dynamic recovery and dynamic strain aging models to achieve metal flow during warm deformation of a low carbon steel. In order to assess metal behavior, compression experiments are utilized under warm deformation conditions and the results are used in the model and temperature and velocity fields are predicted with regard to the effects of dynamic recovery and dynamic strain aging. In addition, warm rolling tests are performed to verify the modelling results. Comparison between the predicted and measured roll forces shows reliability of the employed model. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract
In the present research work the 2024 aluminum alloy was reinforced with SiC particles via powder metallurgy method. The effect of heat treatment conditions on artificial aging kinetics was investigated. The solution treatment of the composite sample and the unreinforced alloy was carried out at 495 °C for 1, 2 and 3 h followed by aging at 191 °C for various aging times between 1 and 10 h. The existence of SiC particles led to increasing the peak hardness of the alloy. The peak hardness of the composite sample took place at shorter times than that of the unreinforced alloy for the samples solution treated for 2 and 3 h, but took place at longer times for the samples solution treated for 1 h....
