APM 3: a methodology metamodel for agile project management

, Article Proceedings of 8th International Conference on New Trends in Software Methodologies, Tools and Techniques, SoMeT_09 ; 2009 , Pages: 367 - 378 ; 9781607500490 (ISBN) Hasani Sadi, M ; Ramsin, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The advent of agile methodologies, though contributing much to software development processes, had a more profound impact on project management processes. Through supporting adaptability in their process frameworks, agile methodologies deviated from conventional project management approaches. This novel attitude has resulted in the emergence of an agile framework for project management. The Agile Project Management Framework (APMF) consists of fine-grained project management practices applied in agile methodologies, and is fast emerging as an alternative to the conventional project management framework. However, there are deficiencies in both frameworks that prevent developers from enhancing...

    Abstract
Power systems are stretched across thousands of miles of diverse territories, often in remote locations, to generate and transfer the energy to geographically dispersed customers. The system is therefore subjected to a wide range of natural hazards which could potentially damage critical system components and cause interruption of electricity supply in some areas. To improve system resilience against natural hazards, management frameworks are required to identify hazardous areas and prioritize reinforcement activities in order to take the most out of the limited resources.Landslide is a natural disaster that involves the breakup and downhill flow of rock, mud, water, and anything caught in...

Towards a comprehensive IT management methodology

    , Article IEEE Engineering Management Review ; 2021 ; 03608581 (ISSN) Samiei, E ; Habibi, J ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2021
    Abstract
As the role of IT becomes more eminent, IT management frameworks become more demanding. Although each of the IT management frameworks focuses on a particular part of this wide scope, implementing frameworks individually, wastes budget and time and results in incompatible or redundant artefacts. The question we want to answer in this research is if a comprehensive IT management methodology could be implemented to provide all the effective results of different IT management frameworks, yet to avoid redundancies and costs of implementing each framework separately. In this study, the integration of the ITIL framework as the most well-known IT service management framework, the COBIT framework as...

    Abstract
Information technology (IT) is a vital part of every organization today. Not only the products and services are based on IT, but also IT is necessary for supporting the organization's processes. As the role of IT becomes more eminent, IT management frameworks become more demanding. IT management guarantees the optimal utilization of IT resources within an organization. Although each of the IT management frameworks focuses on a particular part of this wide scope, implementing frameworks individually, wastes budget, and time results in incompatible or redundant artifacts. The question we want to answer in this research is if a comprehensive IT management methodology could be implemented to...

Optimal electricity procurement in smart grids with autonomous distributed energy resources

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid ; Volume 6, Issue 6 , April , 2015 , Pages 2975-2984 ; 19493053 (ISSN) Safdarian, A ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Lehtonen, M ; Aminifar, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2015
    Abstract
Proliferation of private distributed energy resources (DERs) necessitates devising effective energy management frameworks. This paper aims at establishing a decentralized model for the optimal dispatch of DERs in smart grids. The objective function is to minimize expected procurement cost of demand while profit of private DER owners is not sacrificed. Unit management modules (UMMs) embedded in private DERs and a central agent are autonomous agents of the model. The approach is iterative. In each iteration, the central agent announces to UMMs its procurement strategy, which contains purchased powers and their prices. Then, UMMs optimize and send back their output power and selling price...

Day-ahead energy management framework for a networked gas-heat-electricity microgrid

    , Article IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution ; Volume 13, Issue 20 , 2019 , Pages 4617-4629 ; 17518687 (ISSN) Massrur, H. R ; Niknam, T ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The integration of various energy supplying systems increases the energy efficiency and energy system reliability. Smart microgrids are an ideal area to use multi-carrier energy systems. In this context, this study presents a novel modelling framework for optimal day-ahead scheduling of a networked multi-carrier energy microgrid (NMCEMG) system. The NMCEMG system in this study is composed of heat, gas, and power supply networks. The presented framework has enhanced the multicarrier microgrid modelling against the previous works that modelled the multi-carrier microgrid as an energy hub due to difficulties in the energy flow analysis of heat and gas networks. The proposed framework optimises...

Flexibility-based operational management of a microgrid considering interaction with gas grid

    , Article IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution ; Volume 15, Issue 19 , 2021 , Pages 2673-2683 ; 17518687 (ISSN) Kamrani, F ; Fattaheian Dehkordi, S ; Abbaspour, A ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Lehtonen, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Power systems have been undergoing significant restructuring as a result of increasing independently operated local resources. Consequently, new entities, i.e. microgrids (MGs), are developed, which facilitate the integration of local resources, specifically renewable energy sources (RESs), into the operation of power systems. Despite many benefits, the integration of RESs could cause severe rampings in the net-load, which would challenge the reliable operation of the system. Therefore, it seems essential that flexible local resources in an MG should be employed to provide flexibility services to the main grid, thus ensuring that ramping in the MG's net-load would meet the ramping capability...

Developing a distributed robust energy management framework for active distribution systems

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy ; Volume 12, Issue 4 , 2021 , Pages 1891-1902 ; 19493029 (ISSN) Rajaei, A ; Fattaheian Dehkordi, S ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Lehtonen, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Restructuring and privatization in power systems have resulted in a fundamental transition of conventional distribution systems into modern multi-agent systems. In these structures, each agent of the distribution system would independently operate its local resources. In this regard, uncertainties associated with load demands and renewable energy sources could challenge the operational scheduling conducted by each agent. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a distributed operational management for multi-agent distribution systems taking into account the uncertainties of each agent. The developed framework relies on alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to coordinate the...
