    Abstract
Isolated microgrids depend mainly on diesel generation and have polluting transportation. This is being addressed by the introduction of renewable energy resources and electric vehicles (EVs). Hence, this paper presents a novel long-term planning model for the introduction of EVs in isolated microgrids. This work studies the replacement of internal combustion vehicles with electric ones by analyzing their respective investment, maintenance and operation costs. Various case studies are discussed, considering different EV and solar photovoltaic (PV) penetration levels, and varying prices of diesel in the planning horizon. Results demonstrate that investing in EVs could significantly reduce net...

An Energy Supply System Model for Expansion Planning in the Restructured Environment

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Fakehi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Energy industries in many countries have initiated the process of privatization. Restructuring of energy systems is usually started with dividing the vertically integrated national systems into regional companies. Due to the geographical dimension of energy systems and natural monopoly in many activities, the process of privatization has started with segmentation of the vertically integrated national systems into regional companies. Thus, regional independent companies are formed that include a collection of producers and consumers of energy in their geographic area. These regional companies are economic entities who are pursuing a policy of maximize profit. On the other hand, exchange of...

Development of the Energy System's Resiliency Model (Case Study:Iran)

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Somayeh (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadoola (Supervisor) ; Vakili, Ali (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The high reliability of energy supply and the compatibility of the energy sector with the environment are essential factors in the process of the economic reconstruction and the sustainable development of countries. Thus, most of our activities, well-functioning of modern societies, and the growth of economies (such as the gross domestic product (GDP) of countries) depend on a reliable and efficient supply of energy. In today’s global and increasingly dynamic and turbulent environments, energy systems and supply energy are challenged with numerous disruptive events which threaten to disrupt the activities and performance of energy systems. There is a bilateral relation between energy sector...

BIM Strategic Plan & Vision Development for Transportation Infrastructure Projects in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighatjoo, Mehdi (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Transportation infrastructures are vital components of economy, security and welfare of a country. Construction projects of transportation infrastructures in our country are of great importance. Therefore, such projects have always faced with challenges and obstacles on their path to progress. In order that BIM to be accepted and implemented in the Department of Roads and Urban Development of Tehran Province (DRUT), as an organization that supervises and carries out construction projects over Tehran, the organization and its projects have been studied. BIM is defined as a mean to design and create different industrial tasks through modeling technology, interconnected groups of processes and...

A multistage stochastic programming approach in project selection and scheduling

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Vol. 70, issue. 9-12 , 2014 , pp. 2125-2137 ; ISSN: 02683768 Rafiee, M ; Kianfar, F ; Farhadkhani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, the joint problem of project selection and project scheduling under uncertain environment is formulated, analyzed, and solved by multistage stochastic programs. First of all, a general mathematical formulation which can address several versions of the problem is presented. A multi-period project selection and scheduling problem is introduced and modeled by multistage stochastic programs, which are effective for solving long-term planning problems under uncertainty. A set of scenarios and corresponding probabilities is applied to model the multivariate random data process (costs or revenues, available budget, chance of success). Then, due to computational complexity, a scenario...

Using genetic algorithms for long-term planning of network of bridges

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 26, Issue 5 A , 2019 , Pages 2653-2664 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Alikhani, H ; Alvanchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Bridge maintenance activities are often budgeted, scheduled, and conducted for networks of bridges with different ages, types, and conditions, which can make bridge network maintenance management challenging. In this study, we propose an improved maintenance planning model based on genetic algorithm for a network of bridges to bring a long-term perspective to the lifespan of bridges. To test the applicability and efficiency of the model, it was applied to a network of 100 bridges in one of the south-western provinces of Iran. The results of the model implementation showed considerable potential for improvement over the currently adopted model for bridge maintenance planning. © 2019 Sharif...

A dynamic fuzzy interactive approach for DG expansion planning

    , Article International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems ; Volume 43, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 1094-1105 ; 01420615 (ISSN) Esmi Jahromi, M ; Ehsan, M ; Fattahi Meyabadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
This paper presents a dynamic multi objective model for distribution network expansion, considering the distributed generators (DGs) and network reinforcements. The proposed model simultaneously optimizes three objective functions namely, total cost, emission cost and technical satisfaction (voltage profile) by finding the optimal schemes of timing, sizing, placement and DG technologies in a long term planning period (dynamic planning). The importance of each objective function can be changed in the interactive steps. The calculation algorithm is based on Chaotic Local Search with Modified Honey Bee Mating Optimization (CLSMHBMO). The effectiveness of the proposed model and the calculation...

An interactive fuzzy multi-objective approach for short term DG planning

    , Article International Journal of Innovative Computing, Information and Control ; Volume 8, Issue 6 , 2012 , Pages 4157-4175 ; 13494198 (ISSN) Jahromi, M. E ; Ehsan, M ; Meyabadi, A. F ; Niknam, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents a short term multi-objective planning model for Distributed Generators (DGs) deployment in an electrical network. "Total Cost" and "Emission Cost" are two objective functions which have been going to be minimized in this model by finding the optimal schemes of sizing, placement and DG technologies over a short planning period (static planning). The proposed model can be used for a long term planning period (dynamic planning) in order to consider the timing concept. An interactive fuzzy satisfying method based on Chaotic Local Search and Modified Honey Bee Mating Optimization (CLS-MHBMO) is used to choose the final solution. The effectiveness of the proposed model and...

Multi-criteria decision making for integrated urban water management

    , Article Water Resources Management ; Volume 22, Issue 8 , 2008 , Pages 1017-1029 ; 09204741 (ISSN) Zarghami, M ; Abrishamchi, A ; Ardakanian, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The city of Zahedan, in South-eastern Iran, has high population growth, limited local freshwater resources and inadequate water distribution system resulting in water supply failures in recent years. This paper will investigate integration of several demand management measures such as leakage detection on water distribution network, water metering and low volume water fixtures as well as the conjunctive use of surface and groundwater resources of this city. For integration of water management criteria, compromise programming will be used as a multi-objective decision making method. The criteria include minimizing the cost, maximizing water supply and minimizing the social hazards due to the...
