Explicit renormalization group for D=2 random bond ising model with long-range correlated disorder

    , Article Journal of Statistical Physics ; Volume 130, Issue 4 , 2008 , Pages 815-820 ; 00224715 (ISSN) Rajabpour, M. A ; Sepehrinia, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We investigate the explicit renormalization group for fermionic field theoretic representation of two-dimensional random bond Ising model with long-range correlated disorder. We show that a new fixed point appears by introducing a long-range correlated disorder. Such as the one has been observed in previous works for the bosonic (φ 4) description. We have calculated the correlation length exponent and the anomalous scaling dimension of fermionic fields at this fixed point. Our results are in agreement with the extended Harris criterion derived by Weinrib and Halperin. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC

Effect of long-range correlated disorder on the transverse localization of light in 1D array of optical waveguides

    Abstract
In this paper, the effects of the long-range correlated diagonal disordered optical waveguide arrays in the presence and absence of the positive Kerr nonlinearity are analyzed numerically. The calculated inverse localization length shows that the long-range correlation in a disordered system causes a decrease in the transverse localization in linear optical waveguide arrays. In the presence of positive Kerr nonlinearity, the inverse localization length is increased by increasing the nonlinear parameters in long-range correlated disordered systems in comparison with the uniform distribution disordered systems. This means that the long range correlation causes an enhancement of transverse...

Anderson Localization in Random Potential with Long Range Correlation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Lotfallahzadeh, Shiva (Author) ; Rahimi Tabar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In a one-dimensional disordered system, Anderson localization is known to occur at any energy in the thermodynamic limit when the disorder is uncorrelated and white noise structure.
A great interest for 1D disordered models with correlated disorder has been growing since 2002, as it has become progressively clear that the correlation of the random potentials can deeply affect the electronic localization properties. Spatial correlation of disorder can unexpectedly create extended states at some particular energies.
In this thesis, we study the metal-insulator transition in one dimensional Anderson binary alloy with long range disordered hopping integral and on-site energy, using the...

    Abstract
Although fluctuations in the waiting time series have been studied for a long time, some important issues such as its long-range memory and its stochastic features in the presence of nonstationarity have so far remained unstudied. Here we find that the "waiting times" series for a given increment level have long-range correlations with Hurst exponents belonging to the interval 1/2

    Abstract
We study the metal-insulator transition in one-dimensional Anderson binary alloy with long-range disordered hopping integrals and on-site energies using the transfer matrix method. In this model, the on-site energies and hopping integrals are distributed randomly with long-range correlations characterized by power spectrum of the type S(k)∝1/k(2α-1), with different exponents αε and αt, respectively. We determine the critical value of long-range correlation exponent of hopping integral in the presence of only off-diagonal disorder in which the transition from localized to extended states occurs in thermodynamic limit. When both of the on-site energies and hopping...

Scaling behavior in measured keystroke time series from patients with Parkinson’s disease

    Abstract
Abstract: Parkinson has remained as one of the most difficult diseases to diagnose, as there are no biomarkers to be measured, and this requires one patient to do neurological and physical examinations. As Parkinson is a progressive disease, accurate detection of its symptoms is a crucial factor for therapeutic reasons. In this study, we perform Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) on measured keystroke time series for three different categories of subjects: healthy, early-PD, and De-Novo patients. We have observed different scaling behavior in terms of multifractality of the measured time series, which can be used as a practical tool for diagnosis purposes. Additionally, the...

Long-range correlation in cosmic microwave background radiation

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 84, Issue 2 , 2011 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Movahed, M. S ; Ghasemi, F ; Rahvar, S ; Tabar, M. R. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
We investigate the statistical anisotropy and Gaussianity of temperature fluctuations of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe survey, using the Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis, Rescaled Range, and Scaled Windowed Variance methods. Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis shows that CMB fluctuations has a long-range correlation function with a multifractal behavior. By comparing the shuffled and surrogate series of CMB data, we conclude that the multifractality nature of the temperature fluctuation of CMB radiation is mainly due to the long-range correlations, and the map is consistent with a Gaussian distribution

Strong short-term non-linearity of solar irradiance fluctuations

    Abstract
We investigate short-term non-linearity of solar irradiance fluctuations using the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA). The MFDFA shows that time series of solar irradiance have a long range correlation function with a multifractal behavior. We apply this method to solar irradiance time series from several regions around the world with resolutions of seconds and minutes. The obtained generalized Hurst and Renyi exponents h(q) and τ(q) suggest the non-linear and non-stationary essence of measured irradiance time series. Also, we analyze shuffled, random phase, and rank-wised surrogated data to reveal the nature of the multifractality and conclude that linear and non-linear...

A two-step watermarking attack using long-range correlation image restoration

    , Article Security and Communication Networks ; Volume 5, Issue 6 , AUG , 2012 , Pages 625-635 ; 19390122 (ISSN) Taherinia, A. H ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents an efficient scheme for blind watermark attacking using the concept of matching of the long-range data. The main idea of the proposed attack is to add plenty of noise to the watermarked image and then try to restore an unwatermarked copy of the noisy image. The aim is to destroy the watermark information without accessing the parameters used during the watermark embedding process. So, it allows our approach to be completely free from any pre-assumption on the watermarking algorithm or any other parameters that is used during the watermark embedding procedure. Experimental results show the proposed algorithm's superiority over several other traditional watermarking...

Scaling, multifractality, and long-range correlations in well log data of large-scale porous media

    Abstract
Three distinct methods, namely, the spectral density, the multifractal random walk approach, and the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis are utilized to study the properties of four distinct types of well logs from three oil and gas fields, namely, the natural gamma ray emission, neutron porosity, bulk density, and the sonic transient time logs. Such well logs have never been analyzed by the methods that we utilize in the present study. The results indicate that the well logs exhibit multifractal characteristics, and the estimated Hurst exponents by the three methods are close to each other. Using multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis and the shuffled and surrogated data, we...

Propagation and localization of acoustic and elastic waves in heterogeneous materials: Renormalization group analysis and numerical simulations

    Abstract
We describe and discuss the recent progress in the study of propagation and localization of acoustic and elastic waves in heterogeneous media. The heterogeneity is represented by a spatial distribution of the local elastic moduli. Both randomly distributed elastic moduli as well as those with long-range correlations with a nondecaying power-law correlation function, are considered. The motivation for the study is twofold. One is that recent analysis of experimental data for the spatial distribution of the elastic moduli of rock indicated that the distribution is characterized by the type of long-range correlations that we consider in this study. The second motivation for the problem is to...
