    Due to increase of per capita water usage, water supply costs and population growth rate; optimal usages of available resources are vital. This is especially important in developing countries. If we add water resource deficits to the above problems, its importance duplicates.     Abstract
    Improvements in sealing mechanism between the rotating and the stationary parts of a rurbomachine can extensively reduce the endwall leakage flow. In this regard, abradable seals are incorporated into compressor and turbine blade-tip region. In a gas turbine, equipped with abradable seals, tip of the rotor blade is designed to cut into the material coating of the casing and to form a close fitted circumferential groove for the movement of the blade tip. As a result, the resistance to the leakage flow in the tip gap region increases due to smaller tip clearances (available without any rub-induced damages).     Detection and isolation of faults in the exhaust gas path of a turbocharged spark ignition (SI) engine is an essential part of the engine control unit (ECU) strategies to minimize exhaust emission and ensure safe operation of a turbocharger. This paper proposes a novel model-based strategy to detect and isolate an exhaust manifold leakage and a stuckclosed wastegate fault. The strategy is based on a globally optimal parameter estimation algorithm which detects a virtual hole area in the exhaust manifold.     The purpose of this study was to produce an intelligent superabsorbent polymer (SAP) to be used as a pH sensitive matrix for the controlled delivery of drugs. Novel types of highly swelling SAPs were prepared by grafting crosslinked acrylic acid-co-acrylamide (AA-co-AAm) chains onto pectin by free-radical polymerization.     Oil leakage of transportation pipelines causes a change in its environmental temperature. This effect is employed to detect the leakage and its positions. The Raman Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (ROTDR) and Brillouin Optical Time Domain Amplifier (BOTDA) sensors are two of the most precise oil pipeline leak detector systems operate based on this effect.     Magnetic flux leakage is the most widely used method for oil and gas pipeline non destructive testing. The saturation level of the sample under test has a significant effect on its efficiency; therefore, the magnetizing yoke requires an elaborate design. The finite element method is the conventional approach used for this purpose, but it is very time consuming. In this article, a neuro-fuzzy method is presented to model the behavior of the magnetizing yoke.     Modified perovskite-type oxides were synthesized through co-precipitation and conventional citrate methods. The synthesized perovskite materials had the nominal compositions of LaCoO3, LaCo0.8Cu0.2O3, La0.8Sr0.2Co0.8Cu0.2O 3, and La0.8M0.2FeO3 (where M = Ce and Sr). The catalytic activity of the perovskite samples (for low-temperature CO oxidation) was measured using a quartz reactor with an inlet gas mixture containing 97% N2, 1% O2, and 2% CO.
