    Abstract
The oxidation of sponge iron products and its destructive effects on iron content as well as other properties have been considered by ferrous technologists for a long time. In this investigation, a unique new low temperature method of preventing and/or retarding the oxidation of direct reduced iron is introduced. Experimental results from laboratory and pilot plant tests show the success of the method which has been named cold briquetting of sponge iron. The optimum condition for briquetting is achieved at 80 kN (Lcm)-1, 6% binder, 10% sponge iron fines and 4% anthracite. While hot briquetted iron has become a successful method for the new generation of iron reduction plants, cold...

    , Article Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering ; Volume 6, Issue 3 , September , 2012 , Pages 253-258 ; 20950179 (ISSN) Mohammadrezaei, A ; Papari, S ; Asadi, M ; Naderifar, A ; Golhosseini, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The effect of iridium and iron impregnation of HZSM-5 zeolite on the methanol to propylene reaction (MTP) was investigated. The selectivities of propylene and other hydrocarbons, and the conversion of methanol were compared by performing MTP in a small pilot plant. The results indicate that HZSM-5 zeolite modified by iron and iridium increased propylene selectivity by 6. 3% and 8%, respectively. The selectivity of propylene was higher for Ir/H-ZSM-5 than for Fe/H-ZSM-5, where Fe/H-ZSM-5 was more stable than Ir/H-ZSM-5. Analytic techniques, including X-ray diffraction, BET surface area, temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia, and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy,...

Effects of porosity on delamination wear behaviour of sintered plain iron

    , Article Powder Metallurgy ; Volume 47, Issue 1 , 2004 , Pages 73-80 ; 00325899 (ISSN) Simchi, A ; Danninger, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    IOM Communications Ltd  2004
    Abstract
The role of porosity on the wear behaviour of sintered iron was investigated. Sintered iron was used in preference to steel because the various alloy additions and matrix heterogeneity in the latter might affect the microwear behaviour and the role of porosity. The wear tests were performed in a pin on disc test bed under 10-40 N loads at 0·56 m s-1 sliding speed in air. For the given tribological conditions, it was found that the wear mechanism is delamination or mechanical wear, which is basically similar to that of wrought materials according to subsurface crack generation and crack propagation processes. However, the open pores on the surface act as a site for generation and collection...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amin Shaarbaf, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Davami, Parviz (Supervisor) ; Varahram, Naser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Machinable Austempered Ductile Iron (MADI), a new group of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI), has been developed to remove the problems (hardness and cost) of ADI cast iron. MADI is a special kind of ductile iron which has proper machinabilty properties. This kind of ductile iron can be produced using a specific chemical composition and defined heat treatment process. By providing these conditions, the hardness of the cast iron will be in the range of as-cast cast iron. On the other hand, because of the especial production process, the cost of the final shape casting will be lower than ADI cast iron. In the present work, firstly the effect of heat treatment parameters, including the time...

Formation of carbon nanotubes in Iron-catalyzed arcing method: Effect of iron-ion charge in the aqueous medium [electronic resource]

, Article International Journal of Modern Physics B Condensed Matter Physics; Statistical Physics; Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics ; 30 December 2011, Volume 25, Issue 32, PP. 4411-4417 Shervin, Sh ; Gheytani, S ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were synthesized via arc discharge in aqueous solutions containing ferrous and ferric irons to reveal the effect of iron-charge mole ratio, R = [Fe2+]/[Fe3+], on the purity of CNTs and the process yield. Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used to analyze the cathodic deposits. It is shown that the nucleation of multi-walled CNTs is catalyzed by ferric irons while their growth is affected by ferrous ions. Well-graphitized CNTs with a high-yield are obtained at R = 1 and total iron concentration of 0.05 M. The effect of iron charge is described based on the two-stage formation mechanism

On the formation of SWCNTs and MWCNTs by Arc-discharge in aqueous solutions: the role of iron charge and counter ions [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Carbon Nanostructures ; 2011, Volume 19, Issue 4, Pages 317-328 Gheytani, S ; Shervin, Sh ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized in aqueous solutions containing FeCl2, FeCl3, FeSO4 and Fe2(SO4)3. The effects of iron charge and the counter ions on the formation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were investigated. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis indicated that carbon multilayer structures including CNTs and multishell graphite particles were formed in deionized (DI) water without the iron precursor. SWCNTs were also synthesized in the presence of the iron ions. It was also found that the mole ratio of [Fe2+]/[Fe3+] in the solution has a significant influence on the purity of CNTs and the process yield. The highest yield was...

    Abstract
The reactions of FeCl3·3H2O and 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-5,6-dihydro-1,3-oxazine (N-O) as a bidentate O, N donor ligand afforded a five-coordinated iron(III) complex, [Fe(N-O) 2Cl], with a distorted trigonal bipyramidal configuration. The complex [Fe(N-O)2Cl] was isolated as an air-stable crystalline solid and was fully characterized, including by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. The complex [Fe(N-O)2Cl] shows very efficient reactivity in the oxidation of sulfides to their corresponding sulfoxides using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as the oxidant at room temperature under air. To get an insight into the electronic structure of the complex, the experimental studies have been accompanied...
