    Abstract
SFDTD was first introduced as modified Finite Difference Time Domain method by Aminian et al in [1]. They used this method to calculate the TE reflection coefficient for grounded slab and also for periodic array of metallic patches. Later Aminian et al used SFDTD for bandwidth determination of soft and hard ground planes [2] and for determination of permittivity of metamaterials [3]. Yunfei Mao et al also used SFDTD for Solving Oblique incident wave on other kind of patches array [4]

    Abstract
In this paper, enhanced spatial and temporal shifts in the reflection of Gaussian wave packets from twodimensional photonic crystal waveguides supporting above-the-light-line leaky modes are studied, for the first time to our best knowledge. Particular attention is given to two important special cases, namely, harmonic Gaussian beams and Gaussian-pulse uniform plane waves. Analytical expressions are given for enhanced spatial and temporal shifts when the stationary phase approximation holds and the incident wave excites above-the-light-line leaky modes. The enhanced spatial and temporal shifts of Gaussian wave packets are thereby related to each other via the group velocity of the excited...

Phase resonance tuning and multi-band absorption Via graphene-covered compound metallic gratings

    , Article IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics ; Volume 53, Issue 5 , 2017 ; 00189197 (ISSN) Hemmatyar, O ; Rahmani, B ; Bagheri, A ; Khavasi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
1-D compound metallic grating (CMG) is a periodic structure with more than one slit in each period. When CMG is combined with a graphene sheet as its cover, the incident light is effectively coupled to the plasmons in graphene which in turn can result in strong manipulation of light for both major polarizations. We show that tunable phase resonance and perfect absorption of the incident light are interesting outcomes of this manipulation. In this paper, we demonstrate that fano-like phase resonances which can be observed in CMGs under transverse magnetic polarized incident wave are tuned by changing the Fermi level of graphene. It is shown that while the spectral position of the phase...

    Abstract
Analytical and numerical study of graphene ribbons has become a prime focus of recent research due to their potential applications in tunable absorption, wavefront manipulation, polarization conversion, and so on. In this paper, an accurate analysis of a perfect electric conductor (PEC)–backed array of graphene ribbons (PAGR) is presented based on the well-known electromagnetic (EM) image theorem, where the induced currents are theoretically derived under a transverse-magnetic-polarized incident wave. For the first time, the proposed analysis rigorously incorporates the EM coupling effects between the PEC back plate and the subwavelength array of graphene ribbons. It is proved that the...

Wide-band/angle blazed dual mode metallic groove gratings

    Abstract
A simple approach to acquire wide-band/angle blazing operation in one-dimensional metallic gratings is investigated by means of mode-matching and equivalent circuit analysis. The gratings are single-groove perfectly conducting gratings that support two propagating guided modes (opposed to typical single mode cases). It is shown under what conditions, one can achieve blazing over a wide range of frequencies and angles. Most importantly, it is identified what governs blazing, in particular the true matching condition that needs to be satisfied, and how the structures’ multiple resonances play role in achieving such matching and tailoring the bandwidth. Parameters of the proposed equivalent...

    Abstract
Recently, metasurfaces capable of manipulating the amplitude and the phase of an incident wave in a broad frequency band have been employed for femtosecond optical pulse shaping purposes. In this study, we introduce a phase-only pulse shaper based on an all-dielectric CMOS-compatible polarization-insensitive metasurface, composed of Si nano cylinders sitting on a fused silica substrate. The required phase profile of the metasurface for desired waveforms are calculated using an iterative Fourier transform algorithm, and the performance of the pulse shaper metasurface in implementing the phase masks was assessed using full-wave simulations. Such approach for realizing a...

Source enumeration in large arrays using moments of eigenvalues and relatively few samples

    Abstract
This study presents a method based on minimum description length criterion to enumerate the incident waves impinging on a large array using a relatively small number of samples. The proposed scheme exploits the statistical properties of eigenvalues of the sample covariance matrix (SCM) of Gaussian processes. The authors use a number of moments of noise eigenvalues of the SCM in order to separate noise and signal subspaces more accurately. In particular, the authors assume a Marcenko-Pastur probability density function (pdf) for the eigenvalues of SCM associated with the noise subspace. We also use an enhanced noise variance estimator to reduce the bias leakage between the subspaces....
