    Abstract
Switchable photochromic dyes have benefited greatly from the use of heterocyclic chemicals. The imidazole group is particularly essential because it can be transformed into dimers, which can then be radicalized in the presence of light photons. Imidazole dimers have been optimized throughout thirty years of research, allowing derivatives with diverse colors, quick reversibility, and sensitivity to different wavelengths from UV to near IR ranges. These imidazole dimers are interesting to be used in the matrices of polymers, hydrogels, glasses, solar cells, and even pharmaceuticals. The goal of this review is to look at the history, development, and future of imidazole dimers. We will also...

Reactivity studies of biomimetic catalytic epoxidation of alkenes with tetrabutylammonium periodate in the presence of various manganese porphyrins and nitrogen donors: Significant axial ligand π-bonding effects

    , Article New Journal of Chemistry ; Volume 28, Issue 6 , 2004 , Pages 740-747 ; 11440546 (ISSN) Mohajer, D ; Karimipour, G ; Bagherzadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Highly selective epoxidation (> 95%) of unfunctionalized alkenes was performed by tetrabutylammonium periodate in the presence of six different phenyl substituted manganese(III) meso-tetraphenylporphyrins [Mn(Por)] and imidazole in CH2Cl2. Electron-withdrawing and bulky substituents on the phenyl groups lowered the catalytic activities of the corresponding Mn(Por). Less bulky alkenes with electron -rich double bonds showed greater reactivity in the epoxidation. Co-catalytic activities of four different classes of axial nitrogen donors are compared in the presence of various Mn(Por). In general no direct correlation was found between co-catalytic activities and the pKa values of the nitrogen...

Synthesis and Characterization of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 as a Carrier for Gene Therapy Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Montazeri, Farzad (Author) ; Simchi, Abdolreza (Supervisor) ; Behmanesh, Mehrdad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Advances in genetics and biology have led to the ability to produce therapeutic genes and modify defective genes in patients' genomes, resulting in a solution to many genetic diseases. Many genetic diseases can be overcome through gene therapy by transferring therapeutic genes into the cell nucleus. However, researchers have not yet been able to develop a safe, high-efficiency carrier for the transfer of genes to the target cell, and this has become a bottleneck for the clinical applications of gene therapy. In this study, the ZIF-8 organic-metallic framework was used as a new vector for the transfer of therapeutic genes to target cells. For this purpose, ZIF-8 was synthesized by a...

    Abstract
CO2 separation is of paramount importance owing to global warming abatement, as well as sour natural gas sweetening. Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), containing porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), in particular ZIF-8, have drawn noticeable attention due to their favorable separation performance. However, there are evidences of discrepancies in the reported values of gas diffusion coefficients/diffusivities through ZIFs, even for common well-studied gases, such as CO2 and CH4 in the literature. These discrepancies might be attributed to the surface/barrier effects, which are intensified by ZIF-8 nanocrystals downsizing. In this paper, an effort has been made to determine the impact...
