    Abstract
Providing home hemodialysis (HHD) therapy is a complex process that not only requires the use of a complex technology but also involves a diverse group of stakeholders, and each stakeholder has their requirements and may not share a common interest. Bringing them together will require the alignment of their interests. A process management perspective can help to accomplish the alignment of their interests. To align their interests, it is crucial to identify interest groups and understand their interests. The main objective of this paper is to identify the stakeholders and represents their interests as a list of requirements in the HHD process. An extensive literature review has been carried...

Preparation of Hemodialysis Membrane on the Basis of Polysulfone

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sajjadi, Morteza (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Abd Khodaei, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In Hemodialysis, membrane dialyser and commonly hollow fibers are used to treat patients who suffer from end stage renal failure. When blood flows into membrane, it loses uremic toxins such as urea and creatinine. On the other hand, some of the vital proteins of blood pass through the membrane or they are adsorbed on the membrane surface. The more hydrophilicity of the membrane, the less adsorption of proteins is. In this study, to achieve high hydrophilicity and low adsorption of proteins on the polysulfone membrane surface, the presence of hydrophilic nano-particles SBA-15 in membrane composition is investigated. The nano-particles with mass percentages 0.25%, 0.5 % and 1 % to one mass of...

Modeling, Simulation and Characterization of Blood Treatment and Filtration Process in Home Hemodialysis Machines

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoumi, Arezou (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Dialysis which is an imperfect but most common treatment option for renal failure is divided into two main types:"peritoneal dialysis" and "hemodialysis". Peritoneal dialysis uses a fluid that is placed into the patient's stomach cavity through a special plastic tube to remove excess waste products and fluid from the body.Hemodialysis uses a special type of filter to remove excess waste products and water from the body and is divided to two groups :Clinical and Home.During hemodialysis, blood passes from the patient's body through a filter in the dialysis machine. In this Study first the basic aspect of renal failure and principle of dialysis process are described. Then information about...

Surface Modification of Hemodialysis Membrane for Enhancement of Their Performance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noori Gooshki, Mahdiyeh (Author) ; MoosavI, Abbas (Supervisor) ; Abdekhodaie, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A new technique for surface modification of flat sheet hemodialysis membranes has been investigated. This new strategy presents a dynamic surface modification for membranes in order to assess the hydrophilicity, antifouling, and biocompatibility effects of two functional monomers on dialysis membrane. PSF membranes containing polyvinylpyrrolidone were prepared via phase inversion technique. Afterward, free radical polymerization combined with surface polymerization used to introduce acrylic acid and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate onto polysulfone membrane surface. Various monomer concentrations were selected to obtain an optimum condition. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM),...

Fabrication and Modification of Hollow Fiber Polysulfone Membrane Using Uio-66-NH2 and Mil-125-NH2 Nanoparticles by Mixed Matrix Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tarkhani, Mehdi (Author) ; Mousavi, Abbas (Supervisor) ; Bastani, Daruish (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aims to investigate polysulfone (PSF) hollow fiber mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) properties containing Uio-66-NH2 and Mil-125-NH2 nanoparticles, groups of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), for hemodialysis application. The nanoparticles were synthesized, and the membranes were produced by the phase inversion method. Membranes characterization conducted by ATR-FTIR, FE-SEM, EDX, TEM, and AFM was confirmed the presence of MOFs nanoparticles. Also, the evaluation of specific surface area of nanoparticles was done by BET. The water contact angle (WCA) results indicated the improvement of MMMs hydrophilicity, enhancing the pure water flux from 46.8 L/ m2h for the pristine membrane to...

    Abstract
Background: A small amount of methanol is produced endogenously in the human body but it is efficiently metabolized by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and other enzymes, and the products eliminated without harm. In this study, we present a new entity of inborn error of methanol metabolism due to a mutation in the ADH1C gene coding for the γ subunit that is part of several ADH isoenzymes. Results: This disorder was discovered in an 11.58-year-old boy. During one 9-month hospital admission, he had periods of 1–4 days during which he was comatose, and between these periods he was sometimes verbose and euphoric, and had ataxia, dysarthria. Following hemodialysis treatments, he became conscious and...

    Abstract
In this study, a new facile and cost effective method is used to modify polysulfone membrane surface in order to improve the hydrophilicity, antifouling, and blood compatibility. This modification was performed by adding two functional monomers on the dialysis membrane. Polysulfone (PSF) membranes containing polyvinylpyrrolidone were prepared via phase inversion technique. In the next step, free radical polymerization combined with surface polymerization was used to introduce acrylic acid (AA) and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) onto the polysulfone membrane surface via circulation of initiator and monomer solutions across the membrane surface, respectively. Various monomer concentrations...
