Fabrication of Silicon Nanowires with various Silicon Substrates and Investigation of the structural Properties and their Behavior

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Teymouri, Arastoo (Author) ; Askari, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, Silicon nanowires were synthesized using carbothermal method via Vapor-Liquid-Solid mechanism catalyzed by gold nanoparticles deposited on various substrates. Silicon nanowires just grew on (100) and (111)-oriented silicon substrates. For a particular set of process parameters, we observed a critical thickness of the nucleating gold film, that had depened on a kind of various substrates. We studied the dependence of the Au-Si alloy droplet size and size distribution on the starting gold film thickness and the annealing conditions. We used a modified heating sequence that deconvoluted the effect of various substrates consumption and gas-phase silicon supply on the Au-Si alloy...

    Abstract
We propose a novel graphene-dielectric-based metasurface for manipulating the polarization of the incident light in the terahertz regime. The proposed structure comprised two orthogonally oriented periodic array of graphene ribbons (PAGRs) which are separated by a dielectric spacer and deposited on an Au-backed dielectric substrate. Based on the transmission line theory, an equivalent model with excellent accuracy is suggested for the proposed structure. By leveraging the simplicity of the model, we design a three-state quarter wave plate that is able to dynamically switch the polarization of the reflected wave to linear, right-, and left-hand polarizations while keeping the reflected...

    Abstract
A novel electrode structure is introduced for micro-electrical impedance tomography. The composite electrode structure is made up of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and carbon nanotube (CNT) which are deposited on the surface. The nanostructure-based composition of electrodes improved the effective surface area, increased the double-layer capacitance of electrodes, and enhanced the electron transfer on the electrode–analyte interface. The proposed electrodes exhibit lower frequency-dependent electrical properties in impedance measurement. © 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature

    Abstract
Electrodeposition of long and well-defined gold nanotubes in polycarbonate (PC) templates is still a major concern due to pore blockage problems. In the present study, we introduce a novel method for electrodeposition of long gold nanotubes within the pores of PC templates for the first time. In order to deposit gold atoms onto the pore walls preferentially, pore walls were functionalized with a coupling agent. Short and thin Ni nanotubes were then electrodeposited at the bottom of the pores. Gold nanotubes were subsequently electrodeposited at constant potentials and low solution concentrations. The morphology of nanotubes was characterized by electron microscopy and their formation...

    Abstract
The most applications of gold nanoparticles are in the photo-electronical accessories and bio-chemical sensors. Chloride solution with cysteine additive was used as electrolyte in gold nanoparticles electrodeposition. The nucleation and growing mechanism were studied by electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry, in order to obtain a suitable nano structure. The deposition mechanism was determined as instantaneous nucleation and the dimension of particles was controlled in nanometric particle size range. Atomic Force Microscope was used to evaluate the effect of cysteine on the morphology and topography of gold nanoparticles. Finally the catalytic property of...

    , Article 2018 IEEE 38th International Conference on Electronics and Nanotechnology, ELNANO 2018 - Proceedings, 24 April 2018 through 26 April 2018 ; 2018 , Pages 351-354 ; 9781538663837 (ISBN) Abedini, M ; Ahmadi, M ; Mohammadpour, R ; Sasanpour, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The efficient structure for optical fiber based surface Plasmon resonance sensor has been investigated. The sensor structure is based on removing the cladding of a multimode optical fiber and replacing it with thin film of gold. The incident light inside the fiber will excite surface plasmons which will be resulted in the absorption in specific wavelengths. The absorption behavior is dependent on the dielectric constants at the vicinity of the metallic thin film. Based on the amount of removed cladding and deposition regions on the core structure of the fiber, different configurations can be considered. Based on the computational analysis, we have studied performance of sensor for three...

    Abstract
Enhancing stability against photocorrosion and improving photocurrent response are the main challenges toward the development of cupric oxide (CuO) based photocathodes for solar-driven hydrogen production. In this paper, stable and efficient CuO-photocathodes have been developed using in situ materials engineering and through gold-palladium (Au-Pd) nanoparticles deposition on the CuO surface. The CuO photocathode exhibits a photocurrent generation of ∼3 mA/cm2 at 0 V v/s RHE. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) analysis and X-ray spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the formation of oxygen-rich (O-rich) CuO film which demonstrates a highly stable photocathode with retained...

    Abstract
Gold-silver alloy nanoparticles with various Au concentrations in sputtered SiO2 thin films were synthesized by using RF reactive magnetron co-sputtering and then heat-treated in reducing Ar + H2 atmosphere at different temperatures. The UV-visible absorption spectra of the bimetallic systems confirmed the formation of alloy nanoparticles. The optical absorption of the Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles exhibited only one plasmon resonance absorption peak located at 450 nm between the absorption bands of pure Au and Ag nanoparticles at 400 and 520 nm, respectively, for the thin films annealed at 800 °C. The maximum absorption wavelength of the surface plasmon band showed a red shift with increasing...
