Strength assessment and bonding study of aluminum short fiber-reinforced gypsum composites
, Article International Journal of Damage Mechanics ; Volume 21, Issue 1 , January , 2012 , Pages 129-149 ; 10567895 (ISSN) ; Sangghaleh, A ; Nazari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this study, tensile strength of gypsum-based composite with aluminum fibers up to 15 vol.% was studied. To increase the interfacial bond strength between fibers and matrix, aluminum fibers were anodized under different conditions. Single fiber pull-out tests were carried out to investigate the bond strength. The interface was examined by scanning electron microscope. The ability of the composites to withstand longitudinal tensile load was also studied by tensile tests of dog bone-shaped, randomly oriented fiber-reinforced gypsum. By the introduction of aluminum fibers in gypsum as a randomly oriented composite, considerable increment in the strength is achieved and the toughness of the...
Environmental effects on the bond at the interface of fiber-reinforced polymer and masonry brick
, Article Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites ; Volume 36, Issue 18 , 2017 , Pages 1355-1368 ; 07316844 (ISSN) ; Yarigarravesh, M ; Mofid, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
This study examined the bond at the interface of masonry bricks and fiber-reinforced polymer when exposed to five environments. Three fabrics (aramid, carbon, and glass) and one type of epoxy resin were used. A total of 375 brick-fiber-reinforced polymer specimens were made using wet lay-up technic and exposed to chemical solutions at four pH values (2.5, 7, 10, and 12.5) and substitute seawater. The effect of dry heat on the bond at the interface was also investigated. Single-lap shear tests were then carried out on the samples after 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 13 weeks of exposure. The experimental results indicated that freshwater and seawater had a considerable effect on the bond strength of...
Dynamic performance enhancement of RC slabs by steel fibers vs. externally bonded GFRP sheets under impact loading

Abstract
Recently, to improve the dynamic behavior of Reinforced Concrete (RC) slabs under impact load, the methods of externally bonding Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) sheets to slab and internally reinforcing concrete by steel fibers have been proposed. Nevertheless, it is required to investigate the comparison between these two methods on response of RC slabs under impact loads. In this study, the influence of volume fraction of steel fibers, the number of GFRP sheet layers (one or two) and the arrangement of GFRP sheets (covering the whole or parts of surface), are examined. Performance of fourteen 1000 × 1000 × 75 mm concrete slabs including one plain slab, one steel RC slab, three steel...

Abstract
Polymer-based composites are used for wound healing applications. This work aims to prepare an inorganic-polymer nanocomposite based on bentonite, poly(vinyl alcohol), and bacterial cellulose by electrospinning for wound healing. The nanocomposite is synthesized using a solution intercalation technique, with 1–2 wt% nanobentonite concentration variation. The effects of commercial and laboratory-synthesized nanobentonite as well as the extract of the green walnut shell (EGWS) are examined and characterized by different techniques. The addition of nanobentonite increases the average size of fibers and tensile strength up to 200 nm and more than 15 MPa, respectively, due to the presence of...
