The study of air-cooled condenser in high wind velocity and environmental temperature conditions

    , Article 52nd AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting - AIAA Science and Technology Forum and Exposition, SciTech 2014 ; 2014 ; ISBN: 9781624102561 Darbandi, M ; Behrouzifar, A ; Salemkar, H ; Schneider, G. E ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The use of air-cooled condenser (ACC) has become very popular in erecting thermal powerplants around the world since two or three decades ago. The advantages of forced convection heat cooling system, instead of the classical natural draught convection heat transfer cooling systems, promote the thermal powerplant designers and users to benefit more from such systems in their thermodynamics cycles. However, such forced convection heat transfer mechanisms, can lose their cooling efficiency in off-design ambient conditions, i.e., in high wind velocity and high ambient temperature conditions. There have already been some efforts to analyze the reduction of ACC System performance in some critical...

    Abstract
Oil leakage of transportation pipelines causes a change in its environmental temperature. This effect is employed to detect the leakage and its positions. The Raman Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (ROTDR) and Brillouin Optical Time Domain Amplifier (BOTDA) sensors are two of the most precise oil pipeline leak detector systems operate based on this effect. The position of leakage is determined by the time difference between the sending and backscattered laser pulses. In this paper, the transient response of BOTDA and ROTDR sensors are obtained through solution of the mass, energy and heat transfer in soil and fiber cable. It is shown that the mechanical rise time is of the order of a few...

Storage of Ag nanoparticles in pore-arrays of SU-8 matrix for antibacterial applications

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 42, Issue 13 , 2009 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Abdolahad, M ; Asadi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (NPs) stored in pore-arrays (pa) SU-8 photoresist layer were utilized as an antibacterial nanocomposition against E. coli bacteria. The pa-SU-8 matrix was fabricated by an optical interference lithography method resulting in small pores with a diameter of ∼50 nm and a depth of ∼100 nm. The Ag NPs were deposited on the soft polymeric matrix at different drying temperatures of 50 and 90 °C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the deposited silver NPs were substantially in the metallic state, independent from the drying condition. However, the concentration of the immobilized Ag NPs on the film surface increased (by a factor of 2.5) at the higher drying...

    Elsevier B. V  2020
    Abstract
In this paper, the uniaxial cold compaction process of metal nano-powders is numerically analyzed through the Molecular Dynamics (MD) method. The nano-powders consist of nickel and aluminum nano-particles in the pure and mixed forms with distinctive contributions. The numerical simulation is performed using the different number of nano-particles, mixing ratios of Ni and Al nano-particles, compaction velocities, and ambient temperatures in the canonical ensemble until the full-dense condition is achieved. In the MD analysis, the inter-atomic interaction between metal nano-particles is modeled by the many-body EAM potential, and the interaction between frictionless rigid die-walls and metal...

Optimizing temperature and introducing new process arrangements for elevating clay's longevity based on the known poisons in the separation process of trace olefins from aromatics

    , Article Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology ; Volume 97, Issue 4 , 2022 , Pages 973-983 ; 02682575 (ISSN) Rouhani, H ; Farhadi, F ; Akbari Kenari, M ; Ramakrishna, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
BACKGROUND: The clay treatment widely utilized to reduce unsaturated components in aromatic stream has a detrimental effect on catalyst lifetime. Due to the short lifetime of commercial clay, a huge number of studies have been carried out to address this problem over the last decade. This study aims to optimize the temperature for longer serviceability of clay by removal of unsaturated aliphatic components from aromatic streams through the adsorption and catalytic properties of clay. A novel process arrangement is introduced by scheduling the reuse of deactivated clay that is discarded after deactivation. RESULTS: Results showed that the suitable range of temperature for olefin removal is...

Evaluating near highway air pollutant levels and estimating emission factors: Case study of Tehran, Iran

    , Article Science of the Total Environment ; Volume 538 , December , 2015 , Pages 375-384 ; 00489697 (ISSN) Nayeb Yazdi, M ; Delavarrafiee, M ; Arhami, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2015
    Abstract
A field sampling campaign was implemented to evaluate the variation in air pollutants levels near a highway in Tehran, Iran (Hemmat highway). The field measurements were used to estimate road link-based emission factors for average vehicle fleet. These factors were compared with results of an in tunnel measurement campaign (in Resalat tunnel). Roadside and in-tunnel measurements of carbon monoxide (CO) and size-fractionated particulate matter (PM) were conducted during the field campaign. The concentration gradient diagrams showed exponential decay, which represented a substantial decay, more than 50-80%, in air pollutants level in a distance between 100 and 150meters (m) of the highway. The...

Tunable surface plasmon resonance–based remote actuation of bimetallic core-shell nanoparticle-coated Stimuli responsive polymer for switchable chemo-photothermal synergistic cancer therapy

    , Article Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences ; Volume 107, Issue 10 , 2018 , Pages 2618-2627 ; 00223549 (ISSN) Amoli Diva, M ; Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Pourghazi, K ; Hadilou, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
New dual light/temperature-responsive nanocarriers were synthesized using bimetallic plasmonic Au-Ag and Ag-Au nanoparticles (NPs) as cores of vehicles which subsequently functionalized with an upper critical solubility temperature–based poly acrylamide-co-acrylonitrile using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer for spatiotemporally controlled chemo-photothermal synergistic cancer therapy. The bimetallic cores were assigned to sense wavelengths close to the localized surface plasmon resonance of monometallic NP shell to produce heat which not only can increase the surrounding temperature over the upper critical solubility temperature of polymer to open its valves and promote drug...

    Abstract
Herein, functionalized spiro[indoline-3,5′-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine]-7′-carbonitrile containing two contiguous chiral stereocenters was efficiently synthesized in a satisfactory yield (up to 91% yield) and with excellent diastereoselectivity. We have reached this satisfactory yield by DABCO-catalyzed [3+3] annulation reactions of an isatin N,N′-cyclic azomethine imine 1,3-dipole with a Knoevenagel intermediate in dichloromethane (DCM) as solvent at ambient temperature; this was an entirely new strategy for creating one quaternary stereogenic center at the position-3 of an oxindole structure using an abnormal tandem Michael addition, N-cyclization, and a unique approach via the azomethine...

    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
In this study, antibacterial activity, biocompatibility, and corrosion resistance of 316 LVM implants were improved using the development of HAp/GO/Ag nanocomposite coatings by the dip-coating method. The XRD and FTIR results confirmed the synthesis of HAp/GO/Ag nanocomposites. HAp/Ag nanoparticles (68 nm) bound to epoxy, hydroxyl, and carboxyl functional groups on GO sheets (size of GO sheets varies from 255 to 1480 nm) by electrostatic interaction. FESEM images showed that HAp/GO/Ag coatings had higher density and fewer micro-cracks than pure HAp coatings. In addition, HAp/GO/Ag coatings showed optimized nano-hardness (4.5 GPa) and elasticity modulus (123 GPa). The results of...
