, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rayati, Mohammad (Author) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, demands increment is one of the greatest concerns of energy systems operators. Consequently, enhancing the efficiency of consumption is an inevitable goal, which leads us to a concept named as energy hub (EH). In a simple definition, an EH is a multi-generation system where different energy carriers are converted and stored by various devices such as combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP), battery, and boiler to meet the load demands. In addition, with advent of smart grids (SG), demand side management (DSM) becomes one of the effective techniques with significant role in optimizing energy systems performance. DSM commonly refers to methods implemented by utility companies to...

    Abstract
Today's world energy-related challenges, ranging from anthropogenic climate change to continuous growth of demand for different energy forms, have enforced planners of energy systems (ESs) to concentrate on more optimal and eco-friendly operation and/or expansion planning methodologies. In this context, increased interdependencies of gas, heat and electricity ESs have recently encouraged the planners to design operation and/or expiation strategies in an integrated manner in favor of a new concept, the so-called “Energy Hub” (EH). Although this concept has been employed so far in a multitude of studies, but its real nature, advantages, difficulties, importance or inevitability aspect, and...

Optimal planning of residential complex energy systems requires thorough mathematical modelling to address the interconnections between all the energy installations from the largest ones, shared by all the residents, to the smallest ones in each distinct unit. Besides, conflicting desires of investors and residents in various aspects such as reliability index make this problem more challenging. In response, this paper presents a thorough framework to obtain the optimum design and operation of a residential complex energy system from scratch. To address the appropriate interconnection between various components of such an energy system, a multi-layer energy hub structure is proposed. Besides,...

    Abstract
Besides increasing the installation of distributed generation plants, investigating multi-carrier energy systems leads recent studies to focus on Smart Energy Hub (S.E.Hub) systems. S.E.Hub systems incorporate several modules which optimal size and operation of each have already attracted a great deal of research. Uncertainty in the modelling of these modules is an imperative factor that has not been associated in S.E.Hub models properly. To build up a more precise framework for S.E.Hubs, here we present a stochastic model for electricity and natural-gas prices, electricity and heat demands, and emission costs. In this paper, S.E.Hub operates based on minimizing weighted sum function which...

Presenting a New Model for Planning Studies of a Multi-energy Microgrid to Achieve a Low-carbon Society

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasiri, Tohid (Author) ; Moeini Aghtaie, Moein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the growing population and the development of human societies, the demand for energy increases. And it is expected that for the next few decades, fossil fuels will continue to be recognized as the main sources of energy supply and used to meet energy demand. One of the biggest disadvantages of fossil fuel consumption is the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which raises the Earth's temperature and has devastating effects on the climate and the lives of its inhabitants. On the other hand, fossil fuels are recognized as non-renewable sources and their lifespan is only for the next few decades. Today, one of the major concerns of societies, especially in developed...

Online multicriteria framework for charging management of PHEVs

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Vol. 63, issue. 7 , September , 2014 , p. 3028-3037 ; ISSN: 189545 Moeini-Aghtaie, M ; Abbaspour, A ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Societal concerns over global warming issues and dependence on fossil fuels have caused the vehicle market share of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to grow. A large penetration of PHEVs, however, would likely put higher stress on power systems. To lessen the PHEVs' harmful impacts on the distribution grid, this paper proposes a two-stage charging control strategy modeled on a renewable-based energy hub. In the first stage, a home-based charging control method is formulated in which the charging cost of PHEVs is considered as an objective. Running this procedure by PHEV schedulers in houses, in the second stage of the proposed strategy, the PHEV coordinator agent (PCA) applies a...

    , Article International Journal of Parallel, Emergent and Distributed Systems ; 2014 ; ISSN: 17445760 Rayati, M ; Sheikhi, A ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The concept of smart grid (SG) has been introduced to improve the operation of the power systems. In modern structures of power systems, different reasons prompt researchers to suggest integrated analysis of multi-carrier energy systems. Considering synergy effects of the couplings between different energy carriers and utilising intelligent technologies for monitoring and controlling of energy flow may change energy system management in the future. In this paper, we propose a new solution which is entitled ‘smart energy hub’ (SEH) that models a multi-carrier energy system in a SG. SEH solutions allow homeowners to manage their energy consumption to reduce their electricity and gas bill. We...
