Corrosion and time dependent passivation of Al 5052 in the presence of H2O2

    , Article Metals and Materials International ; Volume 22, Issue 4 , 2016 , Pages 609-620 ; 15989623 (ISSN) Batmanghelich, F ; Bagheri Hariri, M ; Sharifi Asl, S ; Yaghoubinezhad, Y ; Mortazavi, G ; Seo, Y ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Corrosion and time–dependent oxide film growth on AA5052 Aluminum alloy in 0.25M Na2SO4 solution containing H2O2 was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization, chronoamperometric and open circuit potential monitoring. It was found that sequential addition of H2O2 provokes passivation of AA5052 which ultimately thickens the oxide film and brings slower corrosion rates for AA5052. H2O2 facilitates kinetics of oxide film growth on AA 5052 at 25° and 60 °C which is indicative of formation of a thick barrier film that leads to an increment in the charge transfer resistance. Pitting incubation time increases by introduction of H2O2 accompanied by lower...

Horseradish peroxidase immobilization on amine functionalized carbon nanotubes: direct electrochemistry and bioelectrocatalysis

    , Article Progress in Reaction Kinetics and Mechanism ; Volume 37, Number 2 , 2012 , pp. 161-172 Tasviri, M. (Mahboubeh) ; Ghourchian, H. (Hedayatollah) ; Gholami, M. R. (Mohammad Reza) ; Rafieepour, H. A. (Hossain Ali) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was successfully immobilized on amine functionalized TiO2-coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (NH2 – TiO2 – CNTs) by a convenient and efficient method. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and amperometry were applied to characterize the HRP/NH2 – TiO2 – CNT nano-composite. These techniques showed that the NH2 – TiO2 – CNTs greatly enhance the electron transfer between HRP and the modified electrode. Owing to the redox reaction of the electroactive centre of HRP, the HRP = NH2 – TiO2 – CNTs modified electrode exhibited a pair of quasi-reversible peaks with a peak-to-peak separation (ΔEp) of 70.6 mV and a formal potential (E 0′) of 367.65 mV...

    Abstract
By combination of 1-ethyl-3-methyl immidazolium ethyl sulfate as a typical room temperature ionic liquid (IL) and graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets, a nanocomposite was introduced for improving the direct electrochemistry and electrocatalytic activity of glucose oxidase (GOx). The enzyme on the IL–GO-modified glassy carbon electrode exhibited a quasireversible cyclic voltammogram corresponding to the flavine adenine dinucleotide/FADH2 redox prosthetic group of GOx. At the scan rate of 100 mV s−1, the enzyme showed a peak-to-peak potential separation of 82 mV and the formal potential of −463 mV (vs Ag/AgCl in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution, pH 7.0). The kinetic parameters of the charge transfer...

    , Article ChemPhysChem ; Vol. 15, issue. 18 , Dec , 2014 , p. 3902-3927 Sharifi, N ; Tajabadi, F ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The knowledge of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) has expanded considerably in recent years. They are multiparameter and complex systems that work only if various parameters are tuned simultaneously. This makes it difficult to target to a single parameter to improve the efficiency. There is a wealth of knowledge concerning different DSC structures and characteristics. In this review, the present knowledge and recent achievements are surveyed with emphasis on the more promising cell materials and designs

Experimental and theoretical studies of media effects on copper Corrosion in acidic environments containing 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole

    , Article Journal of the Iranian Chemical Society ; Volume 7, Issue 2 , June , 2010 , Pages 478-486 ; 1735207X (ISSN) Lashgari, M ; Arshadi, M.R ; Biglar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Corrosion behaviour of copper metal in acid solutions (HCl, H 2SO4 and H3PO4) containing 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (AMT) was investigated experimentally and theoretically via gravimetric, potentio-dynamic and quantum electrochemical approaches. Similar behavior was observed for H2SO4 and H3PO4 media, and related to the nature of anions at metal/solution interface. With regard to HCl, however, the rate of corrosion was determined to be low at initial stages, but high later on using an auto-catalyzing mechanism. In the presence of AMT, the experimental studies revealed that this molecule was a good anodic-type inhibitor causing substantial changes in corrosion potential. Moreover,...

    Abstract
A three-step method for the deposition of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite films with a high crystalline structure and large cuboid overlayer morphology is reported. The method includes PbI2 deposition, which is followed by dipping into a solution of C4H9NH3I (BAI) and (BA)2PbI4 perovskite formation. In the final step, the poorly thermodynamically stable (BA)2PbI4 phase converts into the more stable CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite by dipping into a solution of CH3NH3I. The final product is characterized by XRD, SEM, UV/Vis, and photoluminescence analysis methods. The experimental results indicate that the prepared perovskite has cuboids with high crystallinity and large sizes (up to 1 μm), as confirmed by XRD...

    Abstract
The combined action of ultraviolet irradiation and microwave heating onto acetonitrile solution of [Re((Formula presented.))(CO)3(NCMe)]OTf ((Formula presented.) =phenantroline and neocuproine) afforded cis,trans-Re((Formula presented.))(CO)2(NCMe)2]+ acetonitrile derivatives. Substitution of relatively labile NCMe with a series of aromatic N-donor ligands (pyridine, pyrazine, 4,4’-bipyridine, N-methyl-4,4’-bipyridine) gave a novel family of the diimine cis,trans-[Re((Formula presented.))(CO)2(L)2]+ complexes. Photophysical studies of the obtained compounds in solution revealed unusually high absorption across the visible region and NIR phosphorescence with emission band maxima ranging from...

    Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of a tin electrode in citric acid solutions of different concentrations was studied by electrochemical techniques. The E/I curves showed that the anodic behavior of tin exhibits active/passive transition. Passivation is due to the formation of Sn(OH)4 and/or SnO2 film on the electrode surface. Addition of NaCl to citric acid solution, enhances the active dissolution of tin and tends to breakdown the passivity at a certain breakdown potential. Cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic measurements allow the pitting potential (Epit) and the repassivation potential (Erp) to be determined. Potentiostatic measurements showed that the overall anodic processes can be...

    Abstract
There have been recent reports on the formation of single-halide perovskites, CH3NH3PbX3 (X=Cl, Br, I), by means of vapor-assisted solution processing. Herein, the successful formation of mixed-halide perovskites (CH3NH3PbI3−xXx) by means of a vapor-assisted solution method at ambient atmosphere is reported. The perovskite films are synthesized by exposing PbI2 film to CH3NH3X (X=I, Br, or Cl) vapor. The prepared perovskite films have uniform surfaces with good coverage, as confirmed by SEM images. The inclusion of chlorine and bromine into the structure leads to a lower temperature and shorter reaction time for optimum perovskite film formation. In the case of CH3NH3PbI3−xClx, the optimum...

    Abstract
Electro-oxidation of dopamine at a glassy carbon electrode was investigated in the presence of some biologically important thiols (R-SH), e.g. cysteine and penicillamine. Results of cyclic voltammetric studies together with the spectrophotometric foundations via Ellman's test during the controlled-potential coulometry show a nucleophilic addition/reduction of thiol to the electrochemically generated dopaminoquinone by a 1 + 4 Michael addition. The resulting ring substituted substrate (as RS-form) is more easily oxidized leading to an increase in the anodic current of dopamine, which is proportional to the concentration of thiol. The square-wave voltammetry (SWV) were applied as a very...

    Abstract
A highly efficient, cost-effective, and durable electrocatalysts based on CoNi metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets on highly porous conductive graphene (PCG) is introduced for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The electrocatalyst was fabricated by template-assisted chemical vapor deposition of graphene followed by solvothermal growth of CoNi-MOF nanosheets. Highly porous 3D structure of PCG with open channels of 200–500 nm sizes provided high active surface area and facilitates gas evolution. In a highly alkaline solution, the electrocatalyst exhibits superior figures of merits, e.g. overpotential of 265 mV at −10 mA cm−2 and Tafel slope of 44.5 mV dec-1, to existing hydrogen...

Voltammetric determination of thiocytosine based on its electrocatalytic oxidation on the surface of carbon-paste electrode modified with cobalt schiff base complexes

    , Article Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry ; Volume 11, Issue 8 , 2007 , Pages 1133-1138 ; 14328488 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Amiri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The electrochemical oxidation of thiocytosine on the surface of carbon-paste electrode modified with Schiff base (salophen derivatives) complexes of cobalt is studied. The effect of the substituents in the structure of salophen on the catalytic property of the modified electrode is investigated by using cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. Cobalt (II)-5-nitrosalophen, because of its electrophilic functional groups, leads to a considerable enhancement in the catalytic activity, sensitivity (peak current), and a marked increase in the anodic potential of the modified electrode. The differential pulse voltammetry is applied as a very sensitive method for the detection of thiocytosine. The...

    Abstract
The electrocatalytic oxidation of cephalexin and cefazolin has been studied at a carbon paste electrode modified with cobalt salophen (CoSal) by cyclic voltammetry. The selectivity of the carbon paste modified with CoSal in detecting cephalexin and cefazolin was examined. To suggest the electrocatalytic mechanism for electro-oxidation of cefazolin, the electrochemical behavior of ceftriaxone was investigated which has a thiol group out of the beta lactam ring. The electrocatalytic oxidation of these antibiotics is shown to be irreversible at the CoSal modified electrode. Scan rate dependence of cefazolin, which is a sulfur-containing compound, has been examined. The results indicated that...
