    A study on the cross-sectional profile of flat rolled wire

    Abstract
    In this research the cross-sectional profile of flattened wires after flat rolling are calculated for different reductions. The empirical formulation, analytical formulation and numerical method have been used to predict the cross-sectional profile. Also, the theoretical results are compared with the experimental data. It has been found that the numerical method is able to predict the lateral spread, the width of contact area, and the curvature radius in all ranges of the reduction in height with a good accuracy, while the other methods exhibit a reasonable accuracy only for a limited range of height reduction.     Abstract
    We demonstrate theoretically by density functional non-equilibrium Green's function method that a much simplest two-terminal wire can exhibit switching, and we present a realistic theory of its behavior. We consider a C20-bowl molecular wire sandwiched between an Au (1 0 0) substrate and a monatomic Au scanning tunneling microscope (STM) tip. Lateral motion of the tip over the pentagon ring causes it to change from one conformation class to the other and to switch between a strongly and a weakly conducting state. Thus, surprisingly, despite their apparent simplicity, these Au/C20/Au nanowires are shown to be a convenient switch, the simplest two-terminal molecular switches to date....

    Abstract
    The Co nanowire arrays were synthesized by electrodeposition in polycarbonate template (PC) with 4 μm thickness. Electron field emission properties of cobalt nanowires were studied for wires with different aspect ratios, R ranged between 10 and 60, while the diameter of wires was fixed about 50 nm. The field emission properties of the samples showed low turn on electric field (Eto) with values varying between 2.9 and 11.3 V/μm showing a minimum value for R = 20 (Eto < 3 V/μm). On the other hand, the enhancement factor shows a peak for nanowires length about 1 μm.     Abstract
    In this review, the importance of nanoparticles (NPs), with emphasis on their general and specific properties, especially the high surface-to-volume ratio (A/V), in many technological and industrial applications is studied. Some physical and chemical preparation methods for growing several metallic and binary alloy NP catalysts are reviewed.     A double-tube vapor phase transport system has been used to grow ZnO nanostructures. Nanopillars, nanorods and nanowires of zinc oxide were synthesized on Au nanoparticle catalyst depending on source-substrate distance and temperature gradient in the quartz tube.     Abstract
    This study shows the growth behavior of Co-Ni alloy nanowires in AAO template. Growth of nanowires consists of four different stages namely electronucleation, steady state growth, filling of pores, and coverage of filled nanowires and forming of a film on the template surface. TEM study of nanowires showed that the nanowires possess hemispherical head due to the preferable and more rapid growth phenomenon in central section of nanowires instead of edge sides.     Abstract
    In this study, synthesis of conductive metal nanowires by using aligned and immobilised DNA strand on solid substrate is reported. The nanoporous gold film was prepared by electrostatic self assembly of gold nanoparticles capped with tryptophan. Tryptophan would improve surface properties of gold nanoparticles for strongly attaching to DNA. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed that gold nanoparticles have been capped by tryptophan.
