    The emergence of phase separation is investigated in the framework of a 2D t-J model by means of a variational product ansatz, which covers the infinite lattice by two types of L × L clusters. Clusters of the first type are completely occupied with electrons, i.e. they carry maximal charge Qe = L2 and total spin 0, and thereby form the antiferromagnetic background.     Abstract
    In this paper a three-dimensional numerical model is developed in order to study the heat transfer enhancement in rectangular microchannels due to electrokinetic effect. The electrokinetic body force on fluid elements gives some superior convective transport properties to the flow relative to pure pressure driven flow in microchannels. Unlike the conventional parabolic velocity profile of pressure driven laminar flow, the electrokinetic body force transforms the velocity profile to a slug-like flow.     In this paper, the excitation of surface waves in the presence of interface charges is discussed. Interface charges affect the dispersion of surface waves, and therefore they can be used in various applications such as optical modulators, switches, sensors and filters.     In this paper active vibration control of functionally graded material (FGM) plates using piezoelectric sensor/actuator patches is studied. A simply supported FGM rectangular plate which is bonded with a piezoelectric rectangular patch (patches) on the top and/or bottom surface(s) as actuators/sensors is considered.     Abstract
    Because of the complex nature of carbonate reservoirs, the required conditions for effective Low Salinity Water Flooding (LSWF) in these reservoirs need further and in depth investigation. In the present study, three calcite cores, i.e. Cal-1, Cal-2, and IL, with the same chemical composition are subjected to tertiary low salinity water flooding (LSWF), while the crude oil and composition of flooding brine kept the same. The experimental results show significant difference in the amount of enhanced oil recovery, as IL had the most additional oil recovery (20.8 % of IOIP), followed by Cal-2 (10.5 % of IOIP) and Cal-1 (3.9 % of IOIP).     Abstract
    Single electron wavefunction of a vacancy in diamond lattice has been calculated in different symmetric configurations of the nearest neighbor (NN) atoms. We used ab initio density functional theory (DFT) and unrestricted Hartree-Fock (UHF) cluster methods. The variation of electron or spin localization on NN atoms have been investigated with respect to the lattice relaxation in the ground state of the neutral and negatively charged vacancy. Calculated variations are not symmetric with respect to the sign of the lattice relaxation. We obtain about 90% localization for electronic charge and spin density for the neutral and negatively charged vacancy, respectively. This is in good agreement...

    A very low voltage transconductor for video frequency range applications and compatible with standard CMOS technology is described. In the proposed transconductor, except the DC level shifter circuit (DCLS), the whole transconductor uses the main supply voltage [which can be as low as 1.5 V in a standard 0.6 μm CMOS technology] while the DCLS uses a simple charge-pump circuit as its supply voltage and has a very low current consumption.     Intermittency of height fluctuations in stationary state of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation with infinitesimal surface tension in 1+1 dimensions was discussed.     The mechanical stability of conductive, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) under applied electric field and compressive loading is investigated. The distribution of electric charges on the nanotube surface is determined by employing a method based on the classical electrostatic theory. For mechanical stability analysis, a hybrid atomistic-structural element is proposed, which takes into account the nonlinear features of the stability. Nonlinear stability analysis based on an iterative solution procedure is used to determine the buckling force.     Low salinity water flooding (LSWF) has the potential to enhance the oil recovery by affecting the fluid-fluid and rock-fluid interactions. Therefore, a systematic investigation on the effect of initial wetting state (water-wet or oil-wet) of pure calcite is conducted to study the importance of these interactions on the effectiveness of LSWF. In the case of initially water-wet cores, more oil recovery efficiency is observed for more saline water cases.     In this work, the electrokinetic properties of asphaltene particles have been investigated. Micro-electrophoresis method by applying DC electric field, was utilized to different mixtures containing asphaltene to determine its electric charge. It was observed that in the case of using n-heptane and its mixture with toluene (heptol), the asphaltene particles were showed to be positively charged however for toluene itself, they expressed no tendency toward the electrodes.
