Simultaneous measurements of the resistance and capacitance using a cylindrical sensor system

    , Article Modern Physics Letters B ; Volume 22, Issue 8 , 2008 , Pages 595-610 ; 02179849 (ISSN) Golnabi, H ; Azimi, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this article, the design and operation of a cylindrical capacitive sensor based on the dielectric reactance capacitance and conductance changes of the gap medium is reported. The proposed system was used to determine characteristics of different water liquids as a result of the capacitance and resistance variations. The air gap capacitance (dry signal) is measured and then by filling the gap with a liquid, the capacitance (wet signal) is monitored for different liquids. A reported sensor is used for the distilled, tap, boiled, and salt water measurements and the capacitance and resistance results are compared. A big difference of about 38.5 μF in the measured capacitance values for the...

Calibrating priestley-taylor model to estimate open water evaporation under regional advection using volume balance method-case study: chahnimeh reservoir, Iran

    , Article Journal of Applied Sciences ; Volume 8, Issue 22 , 2008 , Pages 4097-4104 ; 18125654 (ISSN) Daneshkar Arasteh, P ; Tajrishy, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The objective of this study is to calibrate Priestley-Taylor (PT) model for estimating open water evaporation from an arid region reservoir called Chahnimeh. Chahnimeh Reservoir which is situated in the Sistan area in the southeast of Iran is being affected by regional energy advection during May to October. Therefore, common models of open water evaporation estimation such as PT require calibration. PT method was calibrated for Chahnimeh Reservoir using a volume balance method. Results showed that PT coefficient, αPT, as a constant over the year varies between 2.47±0.09 and 1.20±0.03 for two different hydrologic conditions of dry and wet. It means that there is also an intra-annular...

Quality evaluation of Jajrood river (IRAN) by quality indices methods

    , Article 2012 International Conference on Advances in Materials Science and Engineering, AMSE 2012, Seoul, 9 December 2012 through 10 December 2012 ; Volume 650 , 2013 , Pages 652-657 ; 10226680 (ISSN); 9783037855997 (ISBN) Mirzaei, M ; Hasanian, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
This Regular evaluation and analysis of river quality helps accurate management to reach acceptable quality. In this study, water quality indices (WQI) method applied to evaluate quality of Jajrood River which is one of the main sources of Tehran drinking water. It helps to subsidize management actions in Jajrood watershed. Sampling carried out for 9 years during 2001-2010 in 10 stations along the river in wet and dry stations to identify water quality and the main source of pollution. Results show water quality in all stations classifies as medium according to National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and water quality index in wet season is better than the corresponding value in dry seasons....

Effects of moisture on warm mix asphalt containing Sasobit

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 24, Issue 4 , 2017 , Pages 1866-1873 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Nabizadeh, H ; Naderi, B ; Tabatabaee, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The asphalt industry has been at the forefront of sustainable development. Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) has been developed to cope with issues such as high energy prices and air pollution. These mixes require less energy and generate fewer pollutants during production in comparison with conventional Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA). Although a promising technology, the durability of WMA is not clear because long-term WMA field performance data is limited. This study investigated the susceptibility of Sasobit-modified WMA to moisture, since moisture damage is a major cause of premature pavement failure in asphalt concrete. To this end, WMA samples were made using different concentrations of Sasobit and the...

Performance of glued-in rod timber joints under seawater and UV exposure cycles

    Abstract
Timber joints with glued-in rod connections provide an interesting technical solution for numerous structural applications, also under harsh environmental conditions; yet little research is available on this topic. This paper experimentally investigated the effect of exposure to seawater wetting/drying cycles and seawater wetting/drying plus UV radiation cycles on the pull-out performance of glued-in rod timber connections. Three rod diameters, three anchorage lengths, and four exposures were considered, leading to manufacturing and testing a total of 189 specimens. The quasi-static monotonic pull-out resistance of joints was a function of rod diameter and anchorage length as well as...
