Human Tracking by Probabilistic and Learning Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Raziperchikolaei, Ramin (Author) ; Jamzad, Mansour (Supervisor)
    Abstract
To overcome challenges such as object appearance changes and environment illumination variations in tracking methods, online algorithms are suggested to be used instead of offline ones. Online algorithms update the model by the information acquired in the last processed frame. The main challenge of using online algorithms is the accumulation of small errors after several steps of updating of the model (drift) which disturbs the model and causes tracking failure. Using the object information in the first frame in each update can be considered as a solution. The proposed online semi-supervised boosting algorithms can overcome the drift problem at the expense of decreasing their capabilities in...

    Abstract
A continuous-discrete Distributed and Decentralized Switching Kalman Filter (DDSKF) is designed for estimation of spatial profiles in Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) processes. The introduced observer is an integral part of the control strategy of hybrid systems in general and PSA systems in particular. A reduced order model is developed based on the mechanistic model of the process. The sensors are optimally located and observability of the process is studied. The proposed observer is used to estimate the spatial profiles of various states of a two-bed, six-step PSA system used for production of pure H2 from a H2–CH4 gas mixture. The spatial profiles of the system have been estimated using...

Large-scale image annotation using prototype-based models

    , Article ISPA 2011 - 7th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis ; 2011 , Pages 449-454 ; 9789531841597 (ISBN) Amiri, S. Abstract
Automatic image annotation is a challenging problem in the field of image retrieval. Dealing with large databases makes the annotation problem more difficult and therefore an effective approach is needed to manage such databases. In this work, an annotation system has been developed which considers images in separate categories and constructs a profiling model for each category. To describe an image, we propose a new feature extraction method based on color and texture information that describes image content using discrete distribution signatures. Image signatures of one category are partitioned using spectral clustering and a prototype is determined for each cluster by solving an...

Lot sizing and lead time quotations in assembly systems

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 2 E , 2009 , Pages 100-113 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Kianfar, F ; Mokhtari, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a simultaneous lead time quotation and lot sizing problem in an assembly system is investigated. We address a production system with a product that has deterministic demand over a T-period planning horizon and is produced in lots because of the economy of scale. If a lot is completed before the demand period, inventory carrying cost is incurred. On shortages, a lead time is quoted to customers and a lead time quotation cost is incurred. Finally, if the order is delivered later than its due date period, a tardiness cost is charged. The components supply lead time is stochastic, which follows a discrete distribution. The problem is to decide on the lot size of products and...
