    Terahertz spectrum splitting by a graphene-covered array of rectangular grooves

    Abstract
    We propose a bidirectional terahertz (THz) spectrum splitter using a practically simple metamaterial structure consisting of rectangular grooves covered by graphene. Thanks to the graphene optoelectronic tunability and by adjusting the grooves width, this structure provides nearly 2π phase shift. At the same time, the reflection efficiency is acceptable throughout the phase shifts. We design each of the meta-atoms using a circuit model, and then we synthesize the final supercell based on the generalized Snell’s law so that the structure reflects different frequency waves to totally different directions.     In this study, the authors extend the concept of relay channel with orthogonal components to define a class of symmetric relay networks with orthogonal components named symmetric orthogonal relay network. In the defined network, the channels diverge from each node sender use different frequency bands whereas the channels converge to each node receiver use the same frequency band. This structure is very well understood in half-duplex transmission systems where the relays cannot send and receive at the same time or over the same frequency band.     This article presents a novel dual-band transmission line (TL), consisting of a multibranch stub, which can provide equal unwrapped phases at two different frequencies. The frequency ratio can be close to one without any significant degradation in the device performance.     Abstract
    Fast, accurate and efficient sensing is of important aspects in cognitive radio technology. A new sensing circuit is proposed using a phase frequency detector for cognitive radio applications. Using this method, spectral sensing can be done in a very short time by a low cost, low power circuit, compared with available implemented methods. The PFD circuit resolves different frequencies without the need of variable filter bandwidth or the banks of filters. Also it accelerates sensing procedure because of short time needed to detect the signal.     In this paper a novel T type scheme for 1-phase direct ac/ac converters is proposed. In this topology, frequency changing takes place directly (without common DC voltage bus) through three converters that are connected in a T structure.     Enhancement of heat transfer is investigated in an experimental study of ferrofluid flow in a tube subjected to a constant and uniform heat flux on its wall, filled with permeable material under the effect of magnetic field. Effect of ferrofluid volume fraction, Reynolds number, and different frequencies of various magnetic field modes on heat transfer is examined by measuring the temperature on the wall. Using ferrofluid under the effect of magnetic field improves the heat transfer, and porous media makes the temperature distribution more uniform.     In this paper, microgravity modulation effects on free convection in a cavity are investigated using the lattice Boltzmann method.     This article proposes a bang-bang auxiliary frequency control scheme for doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind turbines. It results in the DFIGs emulate the primary frequency control of conventional units and, thus, increases the power system frequency stability. Indeed, the suggested hysteresis controller causes to deliver the maximum extractable kinetic energy of DFIGs to the grid and consequently further enhance the power system frequency.
