    Abstract
Copper nanorods have been synthesized by electrodeposition with different lengths in porous polycarbonate (PCT) membranes with a pore diameter of 50nm and a thickness of 4νm. The PCT membranes were dissolved in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) and the solvent was replaced by methanol solutions. Extinction peaks at 587, 581 and 574nm were observed for the Cu nanorods with aspect ratio R = 6,8 and 10 in methanol, respectively. Polarization of the molecules of the medium around the wires changes the dielectric constant of the medium. Hence, the wavelength of the extinction peaks does not shows good agreement with calculations that were done on basis of Gans' theory with nominal dielectric constant of...

    Abstract
In this article, we report the computational examination of the impact of hydrogen bonding (HB) on the stereoselectivity of a series of Diels-Alder (DA) reactions. Four different types of diene/dienophile couples were studied including (a) cyclopenta-2,4-dien-1-ol and heteroatom-substituted cyclopentenes, (b) substituted cyclopentadienes andN-protonated 2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole, (c) furan andN-protonated 5-azabicyclo[2.1.1]hex-2-ene, and (d)N-protonated cyclopenta-2,4-dien-1-amine and α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. These systems were designed such that the HB can only exist in theexoreaction pathway. The optimized structures of the transition states (TSs) and products, along with the...

Polymeric ionic liquid nanogel-anchored tungstate anions: A robust catalytic system for oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides

    , Article New Journal of Chemistry ; Volume 39, Issue 2 , 2015 , Pages 1348-1354 ; 11440546 (ISSN) Pourjavadi, A ; Nazari Chamazkoti, M ; Hosseini, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A new heterogeneous catalytic system was prepared by immobilization of tungstate ions on a cross-linked poly(ionic liquid) nanogel. The solid nanogel was easily synthesized by a surfactant-less method. The resulting catalyst was highly active in selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides by H2O2. The oxidation reactions were successfully performed under solvent-free conditions affording high yields. The catalyst was recycled and reused for several reaction cycles without any significant loss of catalytic activity

NMR investigation and theoretical calculations of the solvent effect on the conformation of valsartan

    , Article Journal of Molecular Structure ; Volume 1148 , 2017 , Pages 73-80 ; 00222860 (ISSN) Chashmniam, S ; Tafazzoli, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Structure and conformational properties of valsartan were studied by advanced NMR techniques and quantum calculation methods. Potential energy scanning using B3LYP/6-311++g** and B3LYP-D3/6-311++g** methods were performed and four conformers (V1-V4) at minimum points of PES diagram were observed. According to the NMR spectra in acetone-d6, there are two conformers (M and m) with mM = 0.52 ratio simultaneously and energy barriers of the two conformers were predicted from chemical shifts and multiplicities. While, intramolecular hydrogen bond at tetrazole ring and carboxylic groups prevent the free rotation on N6[sbnd]C11 bond in M-conformer, this bond rotates freely in m-conformer. On the...

The acrylic copolymer was prepared by free radical copolymerization of methyl methacrylate and dodeycl methacrylate monomers. Silica nanoparticles were synthesized and modified with an alkyl silane reagent, hexadecyltrimethoxysilane. A mixture of acrylic copolymer and modified silica nanoparticles, dispersed in dichloromethane, was then sprayed on glass and filter paper surface. Chemical composition and structure of the coatings were investigated by FTIR, FESEM, AFM, 1H-NMR and GPC. The wettability of the prepared coating...

Catalytic oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxide using manganese(III) complexes with bidentate O,N-donor oxazoline ligand and UHP oxidizing agent

    , Article Catalysis Communications ; Volume 10, Issue 2 , 2008 , Pages 196-200 ; 15667367 (ISSN) Bagherzadeh, M ; Latifi, R ; Tahsini, L ; Amini, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The efficient catalytic systems were investigated for the oxidation of various sulfide by manganese(III)-oxazoline complexes, [Mn(phox)2(MeOH)2]ClO4 and Mn(phox)3 (Hphox = 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)oxazoline). These complexes were found efficient catalysts for the oxidation of sulfides with urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in short reaction times (5 min) and under mild condition. Sulfoxides were obtained as the main products together with variable amounts of sulfones. The efficiency of the catalytic system was strongly influenced by the nature of solvents and axial ligands so the best yields were achieved in a mixture of methanol: dichloromethane and in the presence of imidazole as co-catalyst. © 2008...

Surface plasmon resonance of two-segmented Au-Cu nanorods

    , Article Nanotechnology ; Volume 19, Issue 41 , 2008 ; 09574484 (ISSN) Azarian, A ; Iraji Zad, A ; Dolati, A ; Ghorbani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Two-segmented gold-copper nanorods were electrodeposited inside the pores of polycarbonate track-etched membranes from two separate solutions. The PCT membranes were dissolved in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) and the solvent was replaced by methanol solution. Optical absorption spectra of two-segmented Au-Cu nanorods dispersed in methanol showed two peaks which were related to the transverse mode of copper and the longitudinal mode of gold. By increasing the length of the gold segment, when the total length of both metals was fixed at 1 μm, the copper and gold peaks shifted to the blue and red wavelengths, respectively. We observed that the wavelengths of the extinction peaks are not in good...

    Abstract
The need for the control of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) has led engineers to modify wastewater aeration tank systems. In this research, air recirculation has been investigated as a possible VOC control strategy for these systems. A steady-state mathematical model of VOC emission rates has been developed from the fundamentals of VOC convection, volatilization and biodegradation. This model has been used to study the effect of aeration recirculation in enhancing the biodegradation of VOCs in the system, using dichloromethane as a typical VOC. A feasibility study considering plants of various sizes is needed to compare the costs and benefits of air recirculation to other VOC control...

Porous eco–friendly fibers for on–line micro solid–phase extraction of nonsteroidal anti–inflammatory drugs from urine and plasma samples

    Abstract
In this study, cellulose acetate (CA) fibers were prepared using different solvent systems in electrospinning. The recorded scanning electron microscopy micrographs indicated that the morphology of the prepared fibers is closely associated with the type of electrospinning solvents. The prepared CA fibers were used as an extractive phase for on–line micro–solid phase extraction (μ-SPE) of nonsteroidal–inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in biological samples pursued by HPLC–UV determination. Work conducted on this research ascertained that the use of dichloromethane:acetone (3:1, v/v) solvent system in the CA dissolution for electrospinning, leads to the formation of porous ribbon–like fibers and...

    Abstract
Herein, functionalized spiro[indoline-3,5′-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine]-7′-carbonitrile containing two contiguous chiral stereocenters was efficiently synthesized in a satisfactory yield (up to 91% yield) and with excellent diastereoselectivity. We have reached this satisfactory yield by DABCO-catalyzed [3+3] annulation reactions of an isatin N,N′-cyclic azomethine imine 1,3-dipole with a Knoevenagel intermediate in dichloromethane (DCM) as solvent at ambient temperature; this was an entirely new strategy for creating one quaternary stereogenic center at the position-3 of an oxindole structure using an abnormal tandem Michael addition, N-cyclization, and a unique approach via the azomethine...
