    Abstract
Identifying communities has always been a fundamental task in analysis of complex networks. Many methods have been devised over the last decade for detection of communities. Amongst them, the label propagation algorithm brings great scalability together with high accuracy. However, it has one major flaw; when the community structure in the network is not clear enough, it will assign every node the same label, thus detecting the whole graph as one giant community. We have addressed this issue by setting a capacity for communities, starting from a small value and gradually increasing it over time. Preliminary results show that not only our extension improves the detection capability of the...

Development of a paper-based plasmonic test strip for visual detection of methiocarb insecticide

    , Article IEEE Sensors Journal ; Volume 17, Issue 18 , 2017 , Pages 6044-6049 ; 1530437X (ISSN) Mohammadi, A ; Ghasemi, F ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper describes a simple and low-cost test strip for on-site monitoring of methiocarb insecticide. Hydrophilic filter paper soaked in agarose solution was bounded by hydrophobic solid wax and then was coated with unmodified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). AuNPs aggregation caused by methiocarb served as colorimetric response. We demonstrated detection capability of methiocarb both in solution- and substrate-based sensor. A good linear relationship was obtained between the colorimetric response and the concentration of methiocarb ranging from 20 to 80 ng mL -1 with a limit of detection of 5 ng mL -1. Excellent selectivity toward methiocarb was observed among various pesticides and cationic...

RI-COTS: trading performance for reliability improvements in commercial of the shelf systems

    , Article 19th International Symposium on Computer Architecture and Digital Systems, CADS 2017, 21 December 2017 through 22 December 2017 ; Volume 2018-January , March , 2018 , Pages 1-6 ; 9781538643792 (ISBN) Ghasemi, G ; Hosseini Monazzah, A. M ; Farbeh, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The flexibility of software-based fault tolerant approaches in providing the required level of reliability Commer-cial-Off-The Shelf (COTS) devices made them the first choice in designing safety-critical systems. In this paper, we propose a reliability improvement method for COTS-based systems, so-called, RI-COTS. The main idea behind RI-COTS is to establish a tradeoff between reliability and performance of COTS system through controlling redundant execution at instruction level. RI-COTS is implemented on LEON2 processor VHDL model. Our simulation results show that comparing with the most related studies, RI-COTS can improve the fault detection capability by 20% with only 4% performance...

High-Performance Fault Diagnosis Schemes for Efficient Hash Algorithm BLAKE

    , Article 10th IEEE Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems, LASCAS 2019, 24 February 2019 through 27 February 2019 ; 2019 , Pages 201-204 ; 9781728104522 (ISBN) Mozaffari Kermani, M ; Bayat Sarmadi, S ; Ackie, A. B ; Azarderakhsh, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Augmenting the security of cryptographic algorithms by protecting them against side-channel active attacks (and natural faults) is essential in cryptographic engineering. BLAKE algorithm is an efficient hash function which has been developed based on Bernstein's ChaCha stream cipher. Because of the fact that Google has chosen ChaCha along with Bernstein's Poly1305 message authentication code as a replacement for RC4 in TLS for Internet security, BLAKE's implementation is of paramount importance. In this paper, we present high-performance fault detection schemes for BLAKE. Specifically, for the round function, two fault diagnosis approaches are developed and analyzed in terms of error...

Extending protection selectivity in low voltage DC microgrids using compensation gain and artificial line inductance

    , Article Electric Power Systems Research ; Volume 188 , 2020 Shamsoddini, M ; Vahidi, B ; Razani, R ; Nafisi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
Vulnerability of power electronic converters in DC microgrids in case of fault occurrence in DC cables necessitates using a fast fault detection and isolation scheme. In this paper, a modified, fast and selective protection scheme has been presented, which provides the required tripping of low voltage DC (LVDC) microgrids. This protection scheme has been developed based on the natural characteristics of the fault current, in which the first and second derivatives of the fault current have been employed to define thresholds for discriminating between faulted and non-faulted situations. To enhance fault detection capability of the protection scheme, definition of thresholds have been improved...

Health monitoring of structures using few frequency response measurements

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 6 A , NOVEMBER-DECEMBER , 2010 , Pages 493-500 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Golafshani, A. A ; Kianian, M ; Ghodrati, E ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The development of damage detection techniques for offshore jacket structures is vital for preventing catastrophic events. This paper applies a frequency response based method for the purpose of structural health monitoring. In this approach, the concept of a minimum rank perturbation theory is used. The feasibility of using a finite number of sensors and its effect on damage detection capabilities is investigated. In addition, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated in the case of multiple damages. The aforementioned points are illustrated using the numerical study of a two dimensional jacket platform
