Numerical solution of homogeneous double pipe heat exchanger: Dynamic modeling

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 21, Issue 2 , 2014 , pp. 449-455 ; ISSN: 10263098 AliHosseinpour, H ; Kazemi, Y ; Fattahi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Dynamic modeling of a double-pipe heat exchanger is the subject of the current study. The basis of this study is the same velocity of vapor and liquid phases or, in other words, homogeneous phase, in the annulus part of the exchanger. The model can predict the temperature and vapor quality along the axial pipe from the pipe inlet up to a distance where steady state conditions are achieved. The simulation is conducted for two modes of co- and counter-flow in a one dimensional transient system. The physical properties of water are estimated from empirical correlation and a saturated vapor table with cubic spline interpolation. The exchanger model, which is a set of Ordinary Differential...

Efficient implementation of real-time ECG derived respiration system using cubic spline interpolation

    Abstract
Monitoring the respiratory signal is crucial in many medical applications. Traditional methods for the respiration measurement are normally based on measuring the volume of air inhaled and exhaled by lungs (like spirometer) or oxygen saturation in blood. However, these methods have numerous challenges including their high cost and not being accessible in some cases. In this paper, an algorithm for deriving the respiratory signal from ECG signal is proposed, which is based on other proposed algotithms. This algorithm uses the cubic spline interpolation (CSI) of R-waves in ECG to derive the respiratory signal. The CSI algorithm is made efficient with respect to ECG features in order to reduce...

Low-dimensional proper orthogonal decomposition modeling as a fast approach of aerodynamic data estimation

    , Article Journal of Aerospace Engineering ; Volume 23, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 44-54 ; 08931321 (ISSN) Taeibi Rahni, M ; Sabetghadam, F ; Moayyedi, M. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is used and assessed as a fast technique for estimation of aerodynamics data with variation of some aerodynamics parameters. In this way, four extensions to the POD method are considered for steady viscous/inviscid compressible aerodynamic applications. The first extension is a coupling between the POD method with a cubic spline interpolation, as introduced for inviscid flows. The second and the third ones are essentially new techniques which are introduced here for the first time. In these methods, some additional calibrations (including a kind of filtering and reprojection) are needed to achieving more accurate estimations. The so-called...

Comparison of uniform and random sampling for speech and music signals

    , Article 2017 12th International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications, SampTA 2017, 3 July 2017 through 7 July 2017 ; 2017 , Pages 552-555 ; 9781538615652 (ISBN) Zarmehi, N ; Shahsavari, S ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we will provide a comparison between uniform and random sampling for speech and music signals. There are various sampling and recovery methods for audio signals. Here, we only investigate uniform and random schemes for sampling and basic low-pass filtering and iterative method with adaptive thresholding for recovery. The simulation results indicate that uniform sampling with cubic spline interpolation outperforms other sampling and recovery methods. © 2017 IEEE
