    Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease, which is not easily diagnosed using clinical tests and the discovery of proper methods would be a major step towards a successful diagnosis. In the present study, we employed metabolic profiling using proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to find metabolites in serum, which are helpful for the diagnosis of PD. Classification of PD and healthy subject was done using random forest. Serum levels of selenium measured by atomic absorption spectrometry in PD group were lower than the serum selenium levels in the control group. The metabolites causing selenium changes in PD patients were identified using random forest, and a model...

Deformation prediction of mouse embryos in cell injection experiment by a feedforward artificial neural network

    , Article Proceedings of the ASME Design Engineering Technical Conference, 28 August 2011 through 31 August 2011 ; Volume 2, Issue PARTS A AND B , August , 2011 , Pages 543-550 ; 9780791854792 (ISBN) Abbasi, A. A ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Vossoughi, G. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, neural network models have been used to predict the mechanical behaviors of mouse embryos. In addition, sensitivity analysis has been carried out to investigate the influence of the significance of input parameters on the mechanical behavior of mouse embryos. In order to reach these purposes two neural network models have been implemented. Experimental data earlier deduced-by [Flückiger, M. (2004). Cell Membrane Mechanical Modeling for Microrobotic Cell Manipulation. Diploma Thesis, ETHZ Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, WS03/04]-were collected to obtain training and test data for the neural network. The results of these investigations show that the correlation...

Multi-service path switching in all-optical GMPLS core network

    , Article 2008 International Symposium on Telecommunications, IST 2008, Tehran, 27 August 2008 through 28 August 2008 ; October , 2008 , Pages 494-498 ; 9781424427512 (ISBN) Beyranvand, H ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel labeling scheme for Multi-service path switching in the all-optical Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switched (GMPLS) core networks. In this scheme, we employ the Multi-Length Variable-Weight Optical Orthogonal Code (MLVW-OOC) as a multiplexing signature sequence and identifying label. In order to analyze the performance of the network, the probability of error is evaluated for arbitrary number of classes and cross-correlation values. Furthermore, the probability of performance degradation is investigated by considering the activity coefficient of connected paths. To assure the demanded performance, Label Distributed Protocol (LDP) is accommodated by a...

Performance analysis of slotted ALOHA random access packet-switching optical CDMA networks using generalized optical orthogonal codes and M-ary overlapping PPM signaling

    Abstract
In this paper we study slotted ALOHA random access optical code division multiple access packet-switching networks with a chip-level receiver structure. We use generalized optical orthogonal codes (GOOCs) and the overlapping pulse position modulation (OPPM) signaling technique to improve system performance. The impact of physical layer parameters such as the GOOC cross-correlation value and the OPPM overlapping index on key performance benchmarks such as network throughput and delay are analyzed. We also study the stability of the network based on the number of backlogged users, using the expected state drift. It has been shown that using GOOC instead of strict optical orthogonal codes...
