    Abstract
This paper proposes to use a back-to-back converter as the interlink between a utility grid and a microgrid. To justify this proposal, two modes of operation are explained and the benefits of the back-to-back converter over conventional static switches are shown. In mode-1, the inter-link converter injects prespecified amounts of active and reactive power to the microgrid. This mode is identified as PQ control mode. Mode-2 is the voltage control mode in which, the back to back converter controls the voltage of the microgrid and maintains the power quality of the current drawn from the utility grid in spite of nonlinear and unbalanced loads in the microgrid

Direct torque control of brushless doubly-fed induction machines using fuzzy logic

    , Article Proceedings of the International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 5 December 2011 through 8 December 2011 ; December , 2011 , Pages 619-624 ; 9781612849997 (ISBN) Fattahi, S. J ; Khayyat, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this research, a Fuzzy Logic Direct Torque Control (FLDTC) based on stator flux-oriented and machine's relation and equations with voltage and current of both stators have been introduced. Initially, paper focuses on BDFM concept and development of it. The synchronous mode operation of BDFM will be studied, and then by introducing the d-q coordination, the dynamic equation of BDFM will be represents. Furthermore, this paper devotes a new predictive FLDTC in d-q coordination through a short review of some definitions in Fuzzy. In this method a novel expanded rule bases by twelve stator sectors represented. This algorithm is careless to the priority of flux and torque, and it is easily...

    Abstract
For a power transfer path, total transfer capability (TTC) represents maximum power that can be transferred over the transmission system. Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is a device that can be used to increase in TTC. This study presents a new method for optimal UPFC application to minimise power loss while enhancing TTC. Based on UPFC injection model, the solution region of UPFC parameters is first found using the proposed method to maximise TTC. It then searches the solution region to find optimal UPFC control mode and setting to minimise system power loss. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE-Reliability Test System and the UPFC application impact are evaluated. Comparative...

UPFC for enhancing power system reliability

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery ; Vol. 25, issue. 4 , 2010 , p. 2881-2890 ; ISSN: 8858977 Rajabi-Ghahnavieh, A ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Shahidehpour, M ; Feuillet, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper discusses various aspects of unified power flow controller (UPFC) control modes and settings and evaluates their impacts on the power system reliability. UPFC is the most versatile flexible ac transmission system device ever applied to improve the power system operation and delivery. It can control various power system parameters, such as bus voltages and line flows. The impact of UPFC control modes and settings on the power system reliability has not been addressed sufficiently yet. A power injection model is used to represent UPFC and a comprehensive method is proposed to select the optimal UPFC control mode and settings. The proposed method applies the results of a contingency...

Nonlinear power balance control of a SPA hydraulic hybrid truck

    Abstract
An integrated procedure for mathematical modeling and power control balance for a SPA (Split Parallel Architecture) hydraulic hybrid vehicle is presented in this paper. Dynamic mathematical model of the powertrain is constructed firstly, which includes five modules: diesel engine, traction motor, starter, loading pump and accumulator. Based on the mathematic model of control modes a stability analysis is done. For some control modes a Sliding Mode Control is designed, which uses full-states closed-loop feedback. The paper finally illustrates and discusses the results of simulation. The results show that the performance and stability of control modes are proper and a power control strategy...
