    Abstract
In the modern world, electronic communications play a significant role in national and international electronic transactions. This issue has forced all legal systems to face up to many emerging legal problems in the context of electronic communications, such as the legal status of electronic agents in contracting electronically. Regarding the legal validity of e-contracts made through interactive websites, the legal status of electronic agents which play an important role in this process is questionable to see whether they are akin to real agents in the physical world or they are only a mere tool of communication. The current article tries to analyse this question by criticising a number of...

    Abstract
Location-based services are becoming popular for mobile users. The mobile users' location plays a key role to provide the service from one side, but it can be considered as a dimension of their privacy and so necessary to keep it anonymous to the other parties. Since one important issue is to achieve an accurate service, it is important to use the mobile's accurate location. Using the location accurately raises some concerns on behalf of the user's privacy. One solution for meeting this requirement is using tickets by the means of a third party. The tickets should have some properties for not letting a mobile user to cheat and use the ticket more than one time. This paper proposes a protocol...

Purchase prediction and item suggestion based on HTTP sessions in absence of user information

    , Article International ACM Recommender Systems Challenge, RecSys 2015, 16 September 2015 ; 2015 ; 9781450336659 (ISBN) Esmailian, P ; Jalili, M ; YOOCHOOSE ; Sharif University of Technology
Association for Computing Machinery, Inc  2015
    Abstract
In this paper, the task is to determine whether an HTTP session buys an item, or not, and if so, which items will be purchased. An HTTP session is a series of item clicks. A session has type buy, if it buys at least one item, or non-buy otherwise. Accordingly, data is in (session, item, time) format, which tells us when an item is clicked or purchased during an HTTP session. The main challenge comes from the fact that (1) user information is not available for clicked or purchased items, which are merely tagged with anony-mous sessions, and (2) suggestions are highly temporal as they are suggested to sessions instead of users. In other words, users which are stable and identified are replaced...

An incentive mechanism in smart networks using ascending reverse auction

, Article IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, PIMRC ; 2012 , Pages 42-47 ; 9781467325691 (ISBN) Golnarian, S ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this paper, we use the ascending reverse auction method in incentive-based cooperative networks in order to increase the cooperation level of malicious users. Our approach integrates the reverse auction method with traditional pricing and reputation based algorithms and uses fuzzy thresholds to increase freedom of service providers in making the decision whether to cooperate or not. In contrast with earlier works, we do not concentrate on a specific network or protocol. The simulation results show that while the average welfare of malicious users is decreased dramatically, the average welfare of all users does not decrease significantly

    Abstract
In the modern world, electronic communications play a significant role in areas of national and international law such as Internet jurisdiction. Private international law provides that the competent court is the court within which jurisdiction the contract is performed, so it is important to know the place of performance of the contract in the case of contracts for digital goods such as e-books or computer software delivered online. It is equally important in the case of electronic services such as e-teaching. Furthermore, as consumer protection in B2C contracts is important in developing global e-commerce, it is important to consider whether the consumer party is able to bring an action...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sargazi Kousheh, Elham (Author) ; Amini Lari, Mansour (Supervisor) ; Beirjandi, Heshmat ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
Construction is a large industry in Iran, it engages in a wide range of products. The raw materials which are used in making a building are fairly standard items: iron, cement, glass, and so on. Because the technologies for making a building are well-known, contractor can solicit bids from variety suppliers for raw materials without worrying about the possible disclosure of trade secrets. Unfortunately bidding processing in Iran becomes very slow and inefficient. Each transaction required to request the relevant telephone number to supplier that might be interested in bidding on the item, it would often take purchasing personnel more than one week to gather the information, send it to...

Optimal demand response aggregation in wholesale electricity markets

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid ; Vol. 4, issue. 4 , 2013 , p. 1957-1965 ; ISSN: 19493053 Parvania, M ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Shahidehpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Advancements in smart grid technologies have made it possible to apply various options and strategies for the optimization of demand response (DR) in electricity markets. DR aggregation would accumulate potential DR schedules and constraints offered by small- and medium-sized customers for the participation in wholesale electricity markets. Despite various advantages offered by the hourly DR in electricity markets, practical market tools that can optimize the economic options available to DR aggregators and market participants are not readily attainable. In this context, this paper presents an optimization framework for the DR aggregation in wholesale electricity markets. The proposed study...

Assessment of public-private partnership in traveler information provision

    Abstract
Making efficient use of transportation infrastructure has always been a concern. Traveler information provisions (TIPs) assist commuters in making better travel decisions and therefore lead to increased mobility and more efficient travel. The ongoing economic crisis and shrinking public funding have made the public-private partnership (PPP) an attractive instrument for promoting TIP. Such initiatives have been much discussed in developed countries. The use of PPP to fund public projects in developing countries, however, is in its infancy, and the related issues do not receive adequate attention in the literature. In this study, PPP opportunities in TIP were assessed in the case of a city in...
