Paradox Analysis of Collective Decision Making and Authority in Universities: A Case Study of Sharif University of Technology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghorbani, Maryam (Author) ; Arasti, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Talebian, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Planning as one of the most important management tasks in all organizations is necessary and essential. Strategic planning is at the top of every organization’s decision-making, and it is important and crucial. Universities like other organizations cannot survive or thrive without a clear strategy. This study has done considering the importance of planning in universities and higher education institutions and discussing one of the challenges in this field. This challenge is analyzing the paradox of top-down planning and collective decision-making and the authority of faculty members in universities. It is an exploration research with the qualitative method and according to a case study of...

Modelling the Physics of Collective Decision Making and Commuication by Signal Exchange

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Salahshour Mehmandoust Olia, Mohammad (Author) ; Rouhani, Shahin (Supervisor) ; Roudi, Yaser (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In many biological populations, information about environmental conditions is acquired collectively, through information sharing among individuals, by exchanging signals. In order to achieve a better understanding of such systems, using methods borrowed from statistical physics, we introduce two mathematical models. First, a collective decision making model, for a community of individuals residing on a communication network, who live in an uncertain environment, in which individuals try to collectively find the environmental state. In the second model, a collective movement model, we consider a population of collectively moving individuals, in which individuals try to collectively find and...

The Effect of Wages on the Intensity of Child Labor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Damankeshan, Atefeh (Author) ; Keshavarz Hadad, Gholamreza (Supervisor) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the intensity of child labor has been investigated by modeling household behavior in a framework of collective decision-making on resource allocation, and for this purpose, a household utility maximization problem has been used in which child’s and parents’ wages, non-working incomes, education level for bargaining power as well as several variables at the social level such as unemployment rate, divorce rate and Gini coefficient have been used to reflect labor market conditions. In this study, the structure of equations for girls and boys in urban and rural areas has been estimated by using raw household budget data for 2015 in Iran and multivariate Tobit technique. Findings...

Combination of multiple classifiers with fuzzy integral method for classifying the EEG signals in brain-computer interface

    Abstract
In this paper we study the effectiveness of using multiple classifier combination for EEG signal classification aiming to obtain more accurate results than it possible from each of the constituent classifiers. The developed system employs two linear classifiers (SVM,LDA) fused at the abstract and measurement levels for integrating information to reach a collective decision. For making decision, the majority voting scheme has been used. While at the measurement level, two types of combination methods have been investigated: one used fixed combination rules that don't require prior training and a trainable combination method. For the second type, the fuzzy integral method was used. The...
